Chapter 48

Handing me my mug, Derek grins. “What sort of date night would this be without dinner and a movie?”

“Date?” Riley climbs into his lap, then stretches out to lay across mine, as well. Her eyes sparkle as she points out, “It isn’t a date unless you kiss.”

I start, “Well, in the kitchen—”

Suddenly Derek leans over and presses his lips to mine, cutting me off. Riley shrieks with delight. “Daddy and Derek, sitting in a tree!” she hollers. “K-I-S-S-I-N-G!”

Pulling away from him, I grumble, “See what you started?”

But the smile on my face only earns me another kiss as Riley sing-shouts the rest of that silly song. And no, I never could’ve pictured thisin a million years, or even begun to imagine how happy it makes me, or how right it feels.

The movie is just as boring as I remember it, but Derek stares at the screen, transfixed, and asks the occasional odd question that Riley is quick to answer. “Who rescues Elsa?” he eventually wants to know.
