Chapter 11

"I wish we could hear what they are talking about.", the field reporter muttered.

"I can do that.", the cameraman said. He summoned a worm using his enraged energy and dropped it to the ground. The worm dug itself into the ground and swiftly moved to the target location.

"My worm can function as a microphone.", he proudly said. 

"That's great, but how do we hear them?", the field reporter asked.

"We use this.", he positioned his hand as if he was holding something and enraged energy started to flow. In just a matter of seconds, the enraged energy materialized into an object that resembled an apple.

"An apple?", Carina confusingly observed it.

"It is the apple of my ears.", the cameraman said. He threw the apple on the ground and it turned into a speaker. The sound started off as inaudible static noises but after some seconds, it started to receive sounds from the worm. The news field reporter returned to the camera and made an announcement.

"Right now we are testing a new feature of our cameraman's signature ability. We will broadcast the conversation of our hardworking noble agents so we can find out what happened to the body.", she reported.

"That is really cool!", Carina reacted. 

"Quiet, now let's watch them while listening to the audio on the speaker.", he said. Their eyes returned to the Relentless agents talking to each other.

"Are you sure?", Relentless-2 asked.

"I swear there was nothing in there. There were no holes or any trace that it might have escaped.", Relentless-5 explained. The conversation caught the attention of the reporter and the cameraman.

"What do they mean there is nothing?", Carina whispered.

"I'm guessing it is probably hollow inside the monster.", he speculated. As the coworkers were eavesdropping on the conversation of the Relentless agents the sound on the apple-shaped speaker was starting to make weird noises.

"Is that normal? Are we losing connection", she observed the machine and then stared at the cameraman.

"Uh, it will probably go away. Let's just ignore it.", he said. The colleagues returned to listening to their conversation.

"If there was nothing inside of it, could it be-", before Relentless-2 could finish her sentence, a ghoul who is twice as tall as an average human emerged from the ground and stabbed Relentless-5 who was in front of her. The audience from the studio, reporters, and people watching in their homes including the police officers were horrified by the turn of events.

"Oh no! He got stabbed.", a police officer reacted.

"I can replace him! Hire me Relentless!", a police officer said. The news anchor from the studio was stunned in shock.

"Carina is everything all right?!", the news anchor asked. The camera showed Relentless-5 being stabbed by the ghoul with its claws

"As you can see the monster appeared from the ground and attacked one of our heroes, but Relentless-5 is not moving!", she announced as calmly as she could.

"Fix the audio we need to hear what is happening.", she whispered to the cameraman. Before the cameraman could reply, the audio returned to normal and started receiving audio from the worm.

"Are you okay, Boss?", a military personnel asked. Relentless-5 stood back up with a grin. On a closer look, the hand of the monster passed through his body and did not damage him in any way.

"Never been more okay.", he replied. 

"But not for long. We need to exterminate this thing.", Relentless-2 aimed his palm at the monster. The monster was pushed several meters backward.

"My signature ability is Astral Projection, my real body is still at the headquarters. I cannot take any damage in this form.", Relentless-5 proudly said.

"A really cool ability, but not really useful in battle.", he added.

"So, it is all on you Relentless-2 and Relentless-1. I only have 10 seconds left, goodbye!", he waved at everyone before vanishing into thin air. The monster returned to its feet. It looked up to the sky and started howling. 

"Careful, it's going to do something.", Relentless-2 cautioned.

"Where is number 1? He is taking way too long.", she added.

"He said he is still preparing his signature ability, but he should be here in no time.", the military personnel answered. After several seconds, the monster stopped. Silence filled the air as the defenders were preparing for what was going to happen next. Everyone at their homes, from the studio, the police department, and at the field were all anticipating an attack.

"What do you think is going to happen?", Carina whispered to her colleague.

"I don't know.", he replied. In just a second, the apple stopped transmitting audio.

"Why did-", before Carina could finish her statement, dozens of smaller ghouls floated and jumped from the ground. The monsters pounced at the first thing they saw and aggressively attacked them. One of the monsters pounced at Carina but she dodged. The cameraman threw the apple at the monster but it dealt no damage.

"Anyone help us we can't fight!", Carina yelled. Military nearby came to their rescue and sprayed the monster with bullets.

"Thank you.", Carina and the cameraman ran behind the military and expressed their gratitude.

"Get out of here! This area is no longer safe.", one of the military ordered them. The two nodded and left the scene. The military people were defending and resisting their attacks but some were being overpowered by the monsters and were at risk of losing their lives. 

"Geron Squad is losing! Somebody help them.", one of the soldiers yelled at his communication device.

"Eagle squad has multiple injured people!", another soldier shouted as he was shooting a ghoul.

"They keep on regenerating!", a soldier yelled after shooting multiple monsters with a machine gun.

"This is bad, we need to do something.", the soldier next to Relentless-2 said.

"I know.", Relentless-2 covered her legs with enraged energy. She jumped and propelled herself above the ground. As she was in midair, her eyes turned red, and scanned all the monsters within the area. She marked them in her vision. Upon landing on the ground, she threw her bracelet above.  An eye appeared inside the shape of the bracelet which mirrored her own and activated her signature ability.
