73 Short-lasting peace [Part-70]
She did not have much time.
There were three jonin level shinobi fighting with the masked man and if things continued as they were then they would win and then deal with her. She couldn't make a counter seal without studying the seal in front of her for at least a month or two.
"Who should live?"-Veronica
[You can't save both of them.]-Matatabi
They both knew who was going to be chosen to live. The answer was obvious.
Matatabi was more worried over the aftermath of Veronica's actions though. Naruto would see who his sister has become. Who his sister had always been. His reaction was slightly predictable but she, who had already caused him so much pain, wouldn't be able to withstand him breaking apart from her own actions.
Who should live.
Naruto's brain had only been able to latch onto that one sentence. He decided to ignore everything else for now because that's what his father said, 'Focus on the important and urgent things first before anything else.' He needed to pull himself together.
He had to save his friend, Fuu. Anything else would come later.
He ran straight towards Veronica who was holding Fuu down, her eyes still glowing with that weird glow in them. He wondered for a moment how her eyes ended up like that. She saw him coming. She always did.
She was about to pull Fuu with her but Naruto was faster than her at the moment. He pulled Fuu away from her hands, she let him, and stared right in her eyes. He didn't think things through. What was he going to do now? There was no plan. Kakashi was busy fighting with the hoody guy, and so were the rest of the jonin who came with him.
"Naruto. We can only save one of them, and the decision has been made."-Veronica
He had imagined her calling out to him many times. He had imagined getting her coming back safe and sound, and then things would go back to the way they were. He would be happy with his family and then, they would all help Sasuke beat up his brother. He would become Hokage and they would all be there.
"No! There's got to be a way to save both!!! Kakashi-sensei will-"-Naruto
He didn't have a chance to complete his sentence. A blur of black had rushed past him and grabbed Fuu before he could react and then, everything was calm.
The chaos was gone.
There was no noise.
There was no Fuu. There was no Veronica.
Even the hoody guy was gone after Veronica now.
He felt his knees touch the ground before he closed his eyes tightly and then got up and ran. He could sill sense the mystery guy, he could still do something. He faintly heard Kakashi calling out to him but he didn't stop.
He only stopped when a familiar hand picked him up from his jacket and then threw him on his shoulder. The speed at which they were running was faster than his. If only he was fast enough then none of this would have happened. The enemy guy wouldn't have gotten to Fuu. He could've talked to Veronica. Everything would've been fine if-
"HE'S GONE!"-Naruto

She had teleported to the place she had been tortured at in the town of Wisteria. She was several feet underground so even if the chakra leaked and caused blasts, or some other chakra related problems, it wouldn't effect the people as much.
It would've been better to teleport to the temple. More number of people would've been safer. There would have been no causalities.
But she didn't want to see those faces filled with horror and fear. She had been selfish in both her lives, it wouldn't matter if she did another selfish act. And, who is Veronica if she is not the most selfish person to ever be?
The sealing didn't take much time, she had created clones to keep an eye on the process to make sure no errors occurred in the process.
In the end, Fuu died. Chomei survived. And, she was suffering from burns from the wild and untamed tailed beast chakra, which were already being healed. At least Matatabi was fine.
'Can you talk to-'
[You need to rest. I've used almost all my chakra to keep you alive during the sealing process. Go back to the damn temple right now.]-Matatabi
A clear hiss of anger and frustration could be heard from Matatabi towards the end of what she was saying. It was a warning to Veronica to get herself together and think straight for once or else there were going to be severe consequences.
Veronica took in a deep breath, using whatever chakra she had left to perform a diagnose on herself and see just what was wrong with her. She was not surprised by what she found. She had expected the aftermath to be much worse than this. The unknown man had managed to create a seal which tangled two souls together and made them react in a way that Veronica never thought would be possible.
And the worst thing might have been that she did not even know how to unseal it. She had only managed to have Chomei not be teleported to wherever the man had set the co-ordinates to, and Fuu's soul from being fully devoured.
She felt herself fall on the ground and shut her mouth to not let any sound escape. She could already taste the blood coming from her throat.
[Get up. Someone will come here soon. Even the civilians must have Chomei's chakra with how violent it was.]-Matatabi
She didn't reply and reached out her hand to feel for what she assumed was Chomei.
The teleportation only lasted a second. In the second though, she had already lost her consciousness. Chomei stared at the human in front of him and dragged her tiny body to where Matatabi told him to.
Matatabi sighed in relief when her brother actually did as she told him to. Looks like he wasn't too effected by what happened to him. She sighed again when she thought of how Shisui was going to get a heartache when he saw Chomei. At least the children would be happy to have another playmate.
