Chapter Two: Part One

Getting up with a start, I turn off my blaring alarm rather harshly. My wolf was hounding me all last night, I didn't sleep a wink, now we're both suffering.

Shoving my thoughts aside, I tore myself from my plush bed, took a shower, brushed my teeth, then headed into my closet. I chose a simple inky black tee and dark wash strait-legged jeans, accompanied by a coal colored belt. The slick leather slid through my denim belt loops easily and my dark Dock Martin boots felt comforting on my feet.

As I walked briskly to my office, I could see my pack members; they were enjoying the fresh spring air outside my buildings sprawling windows. My wolf, Khan, yearned for us to enjoy it for ourselves.

'Not today Khan.' I chided.

'What of your grandmother?'

I halted my feet, I had almost forgotten about the wonderful woman. She forced a promise out of me. Once the snow had thawed I was to visit her, I hadn't anticipated how severe the snowfall would be. I rushed the rest of the way to my office, if I finished the pack paperwork quickly enough I could make it to my grans by noon.

Opening the door to my workplace, the stench of perfume slapped my senses. I knew it was Bellona before I set my eyes on her. We were once friends, but she shit in my easter basket when she tried for the Alpha Female position. Don't get me wrong, she's attractive with her tanned skin, long limbs, and dark features. Only wanting me for the long life span was what made me rue ever knowing her, the mere notion of it making me sneer.

"Ms. Lyra, did I not forbid you from my office." It was more of a statement than a question. Her eyes never reached mine, she could detect the malice within me.

"Oh really? I must've missed the memo." She clucked.

Looking at her made me feel hollow, lacking a spark. She wasn't my mate. Her elegant clothes and pretty face couldn't sway me. "Leave." I dismissed her as I made my way to the window--opening it. Bellona's scent was sickening.

When she was still present even after I made it to my desk chair, I shot her a warning glare.

"I will not repeat myself, Ms. Lyra." I growled.

With wide eyes, she mumbled a 'yes Alpha', then tucked tail and shut the door rather harshly on her way out.

'Perks of an Alpha command.' Khan crowed darkly.

"Indeed." I sighed.
