Spark of Sea & Fire

Felicity held onto the guard rails and looked down below to see the swirling ocean as treacherous as she had seen earlier. She tucked her flying hair behind her ears to keep the strands of hair muddling her vision.

Now that the affinity weapons were in their vicinity right next to them, Felicity could immediately feel the change. Goosebumps went down her arm along with the tingly feeling returning. She reached up to touch the small vial on the necklace that Medina gave and twisted it around idly.

The crates were smaller than she thought, and Felicity wasn't sure how some of the weapons fit inside the size of the arrangement. There were different-sized crates back for the test, but Felicity thought that the size of the boxes had to do with the size of the weapon. It didn't seem to be that way if the weapons were able to fit inside a smaller container though.

The other helicopter cut down their rope, and Medina reached up to grab the loosened slack and untie the knot from their end. The messenger helicopter was smaller than the one that they were in and more compact which made sense for its usage.

The doors to the messenger helicopter slammed closed, and Medina spoke into her earpiece.

"Leo, open these up," Medina said.

Leo took the crowbar that Medina placed down on the crate to begin opening, and Felicity went over to his side to get a better look, because for some reason there was a small white gas coming out of the crate that seemed like smoke.

Without a warning, Medina whipped the door closed with a huge bang, and Felicity eyed her before leaning over to Melissa to check in with how she was doing. Melissa was still out of it, and Felicity fixed the blanket on Melissa's lap before watching Medina and Leo get to open the crates.

Leo shoved the end of the crowbar into the top of the crate before wiggling it around to pop off the top of the wooden crate. The crates were practically the same as the ones that they got during the physical test with the only difference being the tags on the outside.

Felicity lifted the top crate's tag, but it was written in some sort of code considering that it contained characters of language or whatever it was that she had never seen before. Dropping the tag, she lifted her gaze to Leo, who was continuing to pop open the next crate.

She watched as Leo opened all the crates with Medina slowly easing the weapons out of the wooden boxes. What emerged from each crate was a grey container with something blue inside which encased the weapons held within, and Felicity took it all carefully.

The containers must have frozen the weapons, but for what reason? Felicity knelt by Leo and helped him put it to the side when he pulled them out with the grey handles on the top of the capsules. The white gas coming out was from the cold air from the frozen containers, and Felicity wiped her cold hands on her legs to try and warm them up.

Leo leaned back after all the affinity weapons had been unboxed. "Can we take them out now?"

Medina nodded. "Yes. Press the release button on the bottom."

Felicity crossed her arms as Leo clicked open the capsules which went off with a hiss. "Why are the affinity weapons in these? They weren't like that last time for the physical testing session."

Media shook her head. "Classified information."

Felicity sighed. "You can give us the nutshell rundown. It's not like we are going to spill the beans."

"Yes, but I would hate to do anything that could put you all in danger," Medina replied.

"That's rich coming from someone who is also trying to enforce the task of killing raures to young individuals," Felicity said slowly.

Leo flicked his eyes over to her, trying to get her to not say more than she needed to, but Felicity couldn't help it. It was a pressing matter that was driving her insane if she wasn't able to speak out her thoughts on it. But right now wasn't the right moment for it. She did know. However, if she wasn't able to voice it now, when will the next chance arise if the next day isn't even guaranteed?

Medina passed Felicity a capsule, and Felicity brought it onto her lap as she pushed the lid up a little bit to expose the weapon inside. Felicity couldn't see well from her angle, but Felicity carefully stuck her hand into the cold capsule and pulled out a slim shard that was white. She didn't know what to make of it, except that it was cold in the palm of her hand along with the soft shimmer of the luster of the shard.

In Leo's hand was a black shard that seemed to shine brightly despite it being able to bring darkness. She found it funny that they were both expecting their large weapon only to find the unassuming shards.

She placed her hand next to his and smiled. "Our little affinity weapons."

Medina tucked her arms behind her. "Don't be surprised as they shift right..."

Just as Medina was speaking, the shard suddenly transformed into the affinity weapons that they were familiar with making Felicity screech out and scrambling up to her feet, not wanting to cut Leo with the sharp blade in her hands along with Leo mirroring her reaction suddenly placing his blade down.

Felicity's mouth dropped open in shock and happiness as she brought her blade carefully to face the ground. The humming sound returned to her ears, and her widened eyes fell on Leo's. Instead of the icy blue that she normally saw, what reflected to her was a spark of red in his eyes that startled her, and she reached out to him.

"Your eyes," she exclaimed.

Leo lifted a hand to try and calm her reaction. "It's fine. Just a flash of blue on your end."

Her eyebrows came together. "What?"

"It's the compatibility coming into play," Medina stated. "It's paired."
