Chapter 7: New Learnings

Chapter 7: Day 3.1

We are grateful that we found ourselves a sanctuary. We're so happy that we have a place to stay, but that still doesn't matter...

After we had fun, looking around and doing whatever we wanted after we secured all the possible entrances, we began to sleep.

"I'll go to sleep now, We're in a separate room now, aren't we?" I asked

"Well, yeah, of course. Good night, " She replied

"Good night," I said, I then went to bed

My heart pounded in my chest as I lay on the unfamiliar bed, unable to find solace in sleep. The events of the previous day played on an endless loop in my mind, tormenting me with unanswered questions. How had those abominations breached the supposedly secure gates? The very gates guarded by highly trained soldiers armed with powerful weapons. The absence of gunfire, save for the one shot inside, gnawed at my thoughts, filling me with unease.

As I pieced together the fragments of information, a chilling realization washed over me. The creatures only emerged at night, lurking in the darkness, concealing their malevolence until nightfall. A shiver ran down my spine, and a surge of urgency coursed through my veins. I snatched up my gun from the table, its weight reassuring in my trembling hands, and raced toward the living room where Amy remained.

My breath came in ragged gasps as I flung open the door, adrenaline flooding my senses. But before I could take a single step, chaos erupted. The monster struck with blinding speed, launching itself at me from the shadows of the corridor. I barely had time to react as I was sent sprawling to the ground, my grip on the gun lost in the violent collision.

"Shit! Amy!" I cried out, desperation lacing my voice. The beast loomed over me, its malevolent eyes piercing into my soul. I fought back with every ounce of strength I could muster, pushing against its writhing form, struggling to prevent its gnashing teeth from sinking into my flesh. My hand groped desperately for the pistol, inches away from my grasp, while the other clamped down on the creature's throat, a feeble attempt to stave off its deadly assault.

Agony tore through me as the monster's grip tightened, its bony fingers digging into my chest. A primal scream of pain erupted from my lips, mingling with the sickening sounds of tearing flesh. In that torturous moment, when all hope seemed lost, salvation arrived in the form of Amy's arrival.

Her gunshot reverberated through the house, a thunderous symphony of salvation. The bullet found its mark, striking the fiend with deadly precision. Its grip on me faltered, and I gasped for precious air, liberated from the clutches of impending doom. Amy's swift action had saved my life, her unwavering aim restoring a flicker of hope amidst the chaos.

As the lifeless body of the creature slumped to the ground, its threat extinguished, a moment of eerie silence descended upon us. The air hung heavy with the stench of death and the residue of our struggle. In the aftermath, the room seemed to pulse with a palpable intensity, the weight of our near-tragedy lingering in the air.

Breathing heavily, I looked up at Amy, my eyes filled with a mix of gratitude and lingering fear. The scene before us spoke volumes, a testament to the harrowing reality we faced.

"How... did it get here?" Amy's voice quivered with worry.

"It only comes out at night, right? The safe base from the government is secure, but somehow, these monsters found their way inside. They appear wherever it's dark, and that gunshot we heard yesterday wasn't from the gate, was it? It came from inside. How did they manage to slip past the soldiers without being noticed? The answer lies in darkness. They thrive in it," I explained, my voice tinged with concern.

"If that's the case, then we need to bring light into the house... but the electricity is cut off. Let's focus on getting inside first," Amy suggested, her tone resolute. We carefully moved the lifeless body and secured the doors.

"Use your flashlight," she instructed, a sense of urgency in her voice.

"These are the only lights we have. They should illuminate the entire room, providing us some safety... but won't it attract attention from outside?" Amy questioned, her brows furrowed.

"We'll keep the flashlights pointed down and avoid facing them towards the outside. Hopefully, that won't draw too much notice," I replied, trying to reassure her.

"I can't believe we thought we were safe... I'm sorry you have to go through this," Amy's voice quivered with guilt.

"Don't blame yourself, Amy. Without you, I would be dead by now. You've saved my life multiple times. We're in this together, fighting to survive. So please, don't ever blame yourself," I reassured her, my voice filled with gratitude and sincerity.

Amy let out a sigh, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "Thanks, I needed to hear that," she said, a glimmer of gratitude in her eyes. "We'll get through this together."

I nodded, a sense of determination welling up within me. "Absolutely. We've come this far, and we won't let anything stop us."

"Well then, we have so many things to do tomorrow after learning about those things. You need to sleep first, then I'll wake you up if it's your turn," Amy said

"It's good to know that you're now trusting me on guard duty, I'll go to sleep first then, again, goodnight." I said

"Goodnight," She said
