Cici's headlights cut through the dark desert, not another car in sight on the quiet road as she raced through the night toward the reservation. Gerri was on her mind, as always since she'd fed the detective the powder. Since Cici had finally begun to see the truth.
She'd spent the whole day seeing it, that one cup of coffee, that single dose of her grandmother's spirit magic, opening the doorway to Cici's power once and for all. Unable to work, to focus, she'd spent the last day or so wandering the streets of Silver City, truly seeing the people who lived there for the first time.
Their faces. Their identities, hidden from humanity who either didn't want to know, or couldn't, that they weren't the only race inhabiting this world. Cici's awe and wonder turned to growing anxiety as she realized, at last, just how much she'd been missing all this time.
