Nightmare Strikes

Waking up in the middle of a dream, a strange door appears in the house... Behind each door lies a different, unfamiliar world. In the nightmare world, Jiang Cheng exaggerated the news he got from the strong man and told it to the fat man. The latter was almost in tears as he listened, "If we die here, our entire family will bleed to death upside down?" "That's right." "Then why don't you seem that scared?" The fat man widened his eyes. Jiang Cheng turned his head and said in a very serious tone, "Because I'm an orphan." --- You can support me and read ahead at my Pa treon at Pa treon.com/CinderTL

Doctor, I’m Not Tired at All

The man in the cap walked over, seemingly wanting to knock on Jiang Cheng's door to confirm something.

The man in the suit stared at the door of room 404, then quickly glanced around, his voice low, "Let's head back. Something doesn't feel right here."

Back in their room, the man in the suit turned around, closed the door, and carefully locked it.

The young man with the cap pulled off his hat and threw it angrily onto the bed. He turned and asked in a bad mood, "Could that sound have been those two guys in room 404 messing with us?"

Deep scars lined the man's scalp, the most striking one running from the back of his head to behind his ear—one of the reasons he always wore the cap.

Though he didn't look it, he was likely around 30 years old, dressed in a flashy, careless manner.

Leaning against the wall, the man in the suit had a frighteningly grim expression. After a pause, he spoke, "Probably not. We just got here, and we still don't know what triggers the ghost. I don't believe they'd dare do something like that," he paused, "unless they've lost their minds."

The cap-wearing man, reminded by the suit-wearing man's words, gradually calmed down. He wasn't dumb and knew the man in the suit had a point.

His expression slowly grew uneasy. "So that scratching sound wasn't caused by the players, meaning..." He glanced at the man in the suit, but couldn't bring himself to say the word "ghost."

In the Nightmare World, there was an unspoken rule: once the mission started, no one would mention that word unless absolutely necessary, as if saying it would bring bad luck.

"Nothing's happened so far, so don't scare yourself," said the man in the suit.

He undid the neatly fastened buttons on his suit, along with the top two buttons of his shirt. Taking a deep breath, he told his companion, "Our room, 405, should be the safest. We're surrounded by people on both sides, and room 404, judging by its unlucky number, probably had some gruesome incident in the past. So whatever happens, we'll have firsthand information as long as we're not the first ones to go."

The cap-wearing man seemed to remember something and warned, "We should be careful. That skinny guy from 404 seems to be targeting you."

The man in the suit chuckled, showing a row of pale teeth. "I'll keep an eye out, then find a way to leave him here forever."

After hearing this, the man in the cap had nothing more to say.

After they discussed the night watch schedule, he went to sleep. After all, staying alert could mean the difference between life and death in a nightmare.

Room 404.

After returning to the room, Jiang Cheng didn't lie down right away. Instead, he sat in a chair, seemingly deep in thought.

The fat man, thinking it was the right time to talk, sat up on the bed and stuck his head out. "Do you think someone's going to die tonight?"

In their last task at a villa, a middle-aged man had mysteriously died on the first night. His neck had been twisted 180 degrees, with his toes pointing forward and his face turned backward.

To make matters worse, the fat man had been the first to discover him. He'd been half-asleep, heading to the bathroom, and nearly wet himself from fear.

The terrifying image still haunted him from time to time.

"I don't think so," Jiang Cheng thought for a few seconds before answering.

The fat man muttered, "Doc, you also said we wouldn't enter the nightmare tonight, but here we are."

Jiang Cheng turned to look at him for a moment, then suddenly said, "Fatty, I just remembered something important."

"What is it?" The fat man nodded, thinking the doctor had noticed something crucial.

"When you sleep tonight, make sure to cover yourself up to your chin," Jiang Cheng said, gesturing seriously with his hand.

The fat man, now genuinely frightened, looked around nervously, then wrapped himself tightly in his blanket. He asked cautiously, "Why are you saying that?"

Jiang Cheng clapped his hands and stood up. "Because that way, when the ghost comes to twist your neck, you'll have a chance to fight back."

Fat Man: "..."

Seeing the fat man shivering with fear, or maybe out of a sudden sense of guilt, Jiang Cheng offered to take the first watch and let the fat man sleep. They would switch later.

But the fat man shook his head and sighed. "No need, Doc. That story you just told woke me right up. Now, every time I close my eyes, all I see is a ghost twisting my neck. I'm not tired at all."

Since the fat man insisted, Jiang Cheng relented and went to bed, agreeing to be woken up for his shift.

The fat man sat on the bed, wrapping himself tightly in his blanket, but he still couldn't shake the chill in his heart.

To be honest, from the moment they entered this dorm building, he had a very bad feeling, like something was off.

But even after carefully observing everything, he couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.

When Jiang Cheng mentioned his premonition, the fat man realized he had one too. He felt like someone would definitely die tonight.

It wasn't based on anything concrete, just the intuition that all fat guys seem to have.

The fear of having his neck twisted had now firmly taken root in his mind. No matter how he shifted, he couldn't feel safe.

Finally, he decided to prop his pillow against the wall and lean back against it. With his back to the wall, he figured a ghost wouldn't be able to snap his neck.

Soon, Jiang Cheng began to snore softly.

The fat man couldn't help but admire him. No matter the time or place, Jiang Cheng could always sleep soundly.

Compared to the clear roles in rooms 404 and 405, the occupants of room 406 were much less organized.

Despite having three people, they didn't trust each other.

With only two beds, one person had to spend the night on a chair.

There were two men and one woman, but the woman had the upper hand.

She was plain-looking with a sharp ponytail, her gaze as sharp as a knife.

If Jiang Cheng were there, he might've noticed from her straight posture and the calluses on her hands that she was likely trained, perhaps even familiar with guns.

But the two men weren't that observant. All they could see was that the woman wasn't someone to mess with.

She had clearly entered the nightmare world before. Her calm demeanor was proof of that.

The woman had claimed the best bed, the one by the wall, far from the window.

After all, who knew when a pale, green face might appear outside the window?

The two middle-aged men, both new to the nightmare, sat awkwardly side by side on the other bed.
