Three burly female security guards blocked the door, their faces cold, and it was unclear how long they had been standing there.
"Stealing?"
The lead guard clenched a dark police baton in her hand, her eyes flashing coldly, visibly enraged.
Two of the female security guards had been seen before in Room 304 of Building C, where Luo Yi was caught by them.
At that time, Fatty had secretly laughed at Luo Yi, thinking he was too weak—couldn't fight, couldn't even run. But now... it seemed they had underestimated the situation.
Seconds later, Jiang Cheng took a deep breath and shouted, "Fatty! Run!"
Fatty, almost as if conditioned, immediately sprinted forward, head down, charging out.
His solid build gave him tremendous momentum, and when Fatty ran, he was like a human tank.
But...
Against Fatty's brute charge, the other two female security guards didn't even move. The lead guard merely took a step forward, blocking Fatty's way.
Fatty crashed into her, causing her to step back slightly, her expression unchanged. However, the massive rebound force sent Fatty stumbling backward, a metallic taste rising in his throat.
That collision almost knocked half the life out of him.
It reminded him of crashing his bike into the back of a tractor as a child.
Fatty was dazed, stumbling a few steps back before collapsing into a corner. His vision blurred, seeing double of everyone.
The female security guard before him seemed to grow three heads and six arms.
He strained to turn his head, still worried about Jiang Cheng, hoping to see if he had managed to escape.
In his mind, Jiang Cheng always seemed to be someone who could be trusted, someone who didn't play by the rules, and surely he would have a way to get out.
If Jiang Cheng escaped, he would come back to save him.
But then...
His vision flickered between clarity and blur, and he saw a familiar figure surrounded by the three security guards.
That figure, unafraid and standing tall, calmly removed his camera and even took off his jacket. Fatty, eyes wide in disbelief, thought Jiang Cheng was about to unleash his true strength.
But then...
Jiang Cheng raised his hands high, knelt down along the wall, and pointed towards Fatty while muttering something.
With his ears ringing and his vision hazy, Fatty struggled to make out what was being said.
"The fat guy stole it, and it was his idea. I was just the lookout," Jiang Cheng knelt, looking sincerely indignant, "Sisters, I can testify against him as a witness!"
Fatty's vision went black, and he fainted on the spot.
As directed by Jiang Cheng, one of the female guards indeed found the missing file from Fatty's pockets.
"It seems it really has nothing to do with him..."
The lead guard, looking down at Jiang Cheng, suddenly softened her gaze. He was a good-looking man, and his innocence was disarming.
Besides, he had a rare scholarly aura about him.
"Get up now. As for how to handle this," the lead guard hesitated before continuing, "We still need to consult the school leadership."
"There's no need to trouble you over such a small matter," Jiang Cheng's eyes sparkled as he stood up, brushing the dust off his knees.
One of the female guards, watching him, felt her face flush, swallowing nervously.
Embarrassed, she turned her head, feeling foolish for her reaction—she was nearly forty years old, after all.
But when she turned back, something unexpected happened. Jiang Cheng leaned in, lightly holding her hand.
"Sister," Jiang Cheng looked up, his eyes shimmering like a galaxy, "What happened to your hand?"
"It's... nothing," she stammered, biting her lip, "I just... got hurt when I moved earlier."
Jiang Cheng suddenly looked over at the unconscious Fatty and angrily said, "It's all that Fatty's fault for hurting you, Sister! How about we throw him out of here to vent your anger?"
The female security guard froze. This was the fifth floor—if they threw him out, he surely wouldn't survive.
Even in his unconscious state, Fatty twitched slightly.
"Before we throw him, we could stab him a hundred times or so," Jiang Cheng's expression grew twisted, "Right in the kidneys. Even if he survives, he'll be ruined for life!"
"Let it go, it's not that big of a deal," the female guard was startled by Jiang Cheng's suggestion, suddenly reining in her previous harshness. She even tried to calm him, "You don't seem like a bad guy. The Fatty, though annoying, doesn't really deserve that."
"Alright, alright," the lead guard, trying to mediate, waved her hand, "Let's just call it a day. It's not like he stole anything valuable. You guys can go now, but don't let this happen again."
"You're just going to let him off?" Jiang Cheng pressed, "Are you sure? You won't get another chance..."
"That's enough. Just leave," the lead guard, now impatient, cut him off. "If you're not going, I am!"
With that, she turned and led the other two guards downstairs in a hurry, as if they were the ones who had been caught doing something wrong.
The truth was, they were just security guards working a job, and the school wouldn't back them if things got serious. They'd be blamed instead, written off as temporary workers.
They knew better than to push their luck.
Once their footsteps faded, Jiang Cheng moved to wake Fatty, but his hand paused midair.
From behind, he heard a faint scraping sound, slow and deliberate, like a door being pushed open.
And behind him was...
The archive room!!
Whatever came out of there wouldn't be as easy to handle as the security guards. Was it that ghost? Or had Luo Yi come back from the dead?
Jiang Cheng didn't dare think further, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead.
For the second time today, he slowly, ever so slowly, raised his hand.
Whoever was there wasn't someone he could fight off. The enemy was in the dark, and he had already lost the advantage.
The chilling presence drew nearer. He could hear the slow, labored breathing, and soon, a shadow appeared on the wall before him.
