I'll Be Back Soon

Despite the persuasion of Beth, the black-haired girl, the blonde girl was having none of it.

"No, it's my father's company, but those morons in your department ignored my advice." Blondie harrumphed.

"Since that's the case, they obviously don't see my father as someone they should listen to!"

By this point, Jade had already returned to behind the counter, but she had strained her ears to eavesdrop.

'What an entitled young… well… I guess she's old, compared to me at least. He he he.

'I'll never get how the minds of these people work. It's not like her father's power is her own, nor was it an order from her father.

'Sadly, I bet she still gets her way—it always seems to work like that.'

Back at the table, several of the other girls were attempting to calm Blondie down.

"Beth says she's fine, so she's fine. She doesn't need us to fight her battles," pointed out the blue-haired girl. But internally, she was thinking, 'Jesus, leave the poor girl alone. She obviously never wanted the promotion.'

"That's right. Besides, this is just a small loss; it would be a shame if you wasted your power on something like this," added the brunette. 'Oh my goodness! It's barely been a month since your last hissy fit got someone fired—give your old man a break!'

Only the ginger girl did not say anything. She just sat there quietly, stirring her coffee.

The other girls at the table noticed the anomaly and turned their curious gazes toward her.

"Jas, what's wrong?"

"You okay, Jas?"

With a long sigh, Jas mumbled, "Troy and I broke up. It's been coming for a while, but still…"

Gasps were let out around the table like an audible Mexican wave.

"Oh no!"

"You guys were so good together!"

"Whatever he did, he's an ass!"

…

Behind the counter, Jade could not help chuckling to herself.

'He he. They're a few years older than me, but how come they seem to act like high schoolers?

'Maybe they've been too sheltered. They probably went from a private school to university and from university to that company.

'He he he. I wonder how they'd fare working somewhere like this.'

As Jade continued silently cackling to herself, the girls around the table got up to leave.

They all shrugged on coats from designer labels and picked up their bags, which were probably more expensive than a year's rent for Jade!

'Sigh… The really is a huge gap between people. A fortune to me is probably only loose change for them.'

Jade watched the group as they headed for the door.

Ting ding!

They all filtered through in single file.

Perhaps surprisingly because of her earlier attitude, Blondie waited and held the door open for all her friends to pass thorough first.

As Blondie made to exit, she turned over her shoulder and loudly said, "Thanks for the coffee, Jade. I'll surely be back soon."

"Thank you, please do," Jade replied with a smile. 'Hmm… I don't remember seeing her before. How did she know my name?'
