Chapter 1Chapter 1: Start of the Game

William was riding on his bike on the sidewalk, cars zoomed by him while voice chatting with some of his online friends.

"Okay guys, newest DLC for Nido is being released today" William said in an excited voice "we need to get on and try to level up as much as possible. Update now has level 200 as max level and we are 50 levels behind."

"Ya ya ya we heard you the first time. We've been grinding levels for weeks now."

"Cody I don't want to have any trouble with you" William said while chuckling

"Oh never from me Sir" Cody said in a sarcastic tone "Brady Torey you guys joining Will and I?"

"Ya I should be off work by then" Brady said while a huffed voice as he works.

"I'm actually on the road back home from my girlfriend house, so I'll be on in 10" Torey said will going 5 over the speed limit.

"Right on. I'll end the call and meet up with everyone on discord"

Everyone said their goodbyes as William closed the voice chat, peddling faster to rush home. After 10 more minutes of riding his bike, he finally reached his house with his girlfriend. Parked his bike and locked it into a bike rack and ran up the stairs to the second floor of this apartment complex. He stumbled with the key due to excitement. Waiting months for this update. Inside his girlfriend. She had her headphones on with pink rabbit ears atop them. She was saying back and forth while video game with her friends. their black cat, Bolt, on her lap. He kissed her on the forehead and said "Hey love guys and I are going to play Nido all night. Enjoy your game session!"

She briefly heard before saying to enjoy himself.

William walked to another room with his desk and compute set up and opened discord to join the call where the cody and Torey were waiting.

"Torey you aren't listening to me. Next time we fight the Giant Lord boss we use your shield as a spring board and launch me on top of him"

"Ya I get what your saying, but I don't know if I can do that. I can use the shield bash ability and see if that works? There's no shield spring board ability."

There's a ping in the chat notifying them that William has joined the call

"Mom Dad stop fighting." William said trying to sound like a crying child

"Shut up son before I whip you" Cody said in a jokingly authoritative tone

"Oh sweety leave him alone he's just a child" Torey said while raising the pitch of his voice to sound like an elderly woman.

"Okay serious time guys. Since you two where here first we just waiting on Brady? Cody you almost set to start to record? Might have to do introductions of who we are and our classes right?"

Cody was the first to reply "Brady texted me saying he'll be home in a couple minutes, just turned on recording. I'll introduce myself first, then Torey then you William."

"I can't wait for us to be Youtubers" Torey said with a wishful excitement.

"Okay recording starts in. 3. 2. 1. Hellos everyone and we'll back the the adventures of the Guilded Losers! I'm your host SwiftCodex. As you all know I'm the leader of this guild. We are in the top 100 guilds of Nido on the American servers, despite only being 4 of us. As the leader I play as a Rogue/Soldier hybrid class. Using swords and guns to sneak up on deal lots of damage."

"I'm Powerplays. I'm the tank of our group. I'm the Paladin/Psychic hybrid class. Using swords, shields and my mind to draw enemies to me and protect the team"

"Howdy. I'm LazyLockheart but everyone just calls me Lazy. I'm the Enchanter/Mechanic hybrid class. I play as support to make sure our teams gear is made and up to par with our fights."

A ping goes off as someone enters chat.

"Sorry kinda late guys. Work had me unload some stuff for another order"

"All good Brady. I'm recording right now, just need your character and brief explanation for video"

"Ah okay. Hang on" everyone can hear some adjustment to a mic as Brady is setting up

"Okay. So umm. I'm NitroWarrior and I play as a Mage/Artillerist hybrid. Mainly use a literal canon to cast spells and deal [AOE] damage."

"Great! Intro is done. Let's get this game going!" Cody said with loudly with excitement in his voice.

As everyone started the game all their screens flashed so brightly they all needed to shield their eyes from the screen.

Vshoosh

Everyone could feel a gust of wind pass by them at a high speed. Everyone was rendered unconscious.

As they all start to open their eyes they were no longer in their rooms but somehow in the actual game!

They were all stunned. Looking down they could feel their hands touching and looking at each other barely able to understand what happened.

[AOE] is a gaming term for Area of Effect.

Intergalactic conquest with an AI

Rex was just another slave in the corporate machine, a faceless office worker under the shadow of one of the galaxy's powerful megacorps. His life was predictable and dull, an endless cycle of meaningless reports and fluorescent-lit monotony. That was, until that day.... When a new world was discovered on the outskirts of the galaxy, Rex, like countless other low-ranking employees, found himself dragged into a contract clause he’d barely skimmed years ago. The megacorp ordered him and his coworkers to pack their lives into a transport pod and leave for the unexplored planet. Their mission? Establish a colony. Mine resources. Make the company richer. There was no choice, refusing meant ruin. At first, everything seemed manageable. The days were grueling, the nights cold, but progress was steady. The colony was coming to life. Until the excavation team struck something. No one knew what it was at first, a buried hive, a forgotten ecosystem, or something ancient and dangerous. Whatever it was, it unleashed hell. Swarms of enormous, chittering creatures erupted from the ground, their jagged bodies blotting out the sky. The colony fell into chaos. Screams echoed through the air as the bugs tore through everything in their path, walls, machines, and people. Rex barely survived. Bloodied, broken, and pinned beneath the rubble, he should have died there. But in the pitch-black silence of his fading consciousness, a voice spoke to him. Cold. Mechanical. Otherworldly. "Do you wish to live?" When Rex woke, he was no longer the man he’d been. His body was no longer human flesh and bone but something far more alien. His skin shimmered with living metal, his mind infused with the power of Cleo, a mysterious AI from a long-extinct, robotic race known as the Kaelzars. Cleo’s presence pulsed through his thoughts, guiding him and transforming him. He wasn’t just alive. He was reborn. But survival came at a price. Rex was no longer a pawn of the megacorp; he was something more dangerous, something they couldn’t control. As Cleo’s intentions began to reveal themselves, Rex found himself standing on the precipice of war, not just with the bugs but with forces far greater than he could have imagined. This was the beginning of a journey through blood-soaked battlefields and treacherous alliances. Along the way, Rex would encounter allies, brilliant, flawed, and unpredictable, and enemies whose ambitions were as sharp as their blades. These weren’t disposable foes, easily crushed by an overpowered hero. They were cunning, relentless, and human in the most terrifying ways. But then again, in war, who can truly be called a villain?
