Michael frown and drop the drink in his hands when he saw Maxwell enter with a very bad mood "Maxwell,what's wrong? i thought you went out to find Sonya?" Micheal asked. Maxwell sat down dejectedly. He was still trying to digest what he heard just now.
"so you are saying you went out and overheard her saying she doesn't love you but someone else?" he asked surprised.
"are you sure you are not mistaking?" Micheal ask not believing his word.
"I also don't believe it but i heard her with my ears, its cant be wrong" he said dejected.
"why don't you confirm it yourself then. let her say it to you face to face to be sure" Micheal advised.
"whatever she thinks am not going to give her up" he concluded.
"if she doesn't like or care about him like she said he is going to confirm it himself.
Soon it was Maxwell's birthday. Evelyn and Celina with others who were invited begin to arrive. Sonya wore a simple dress and went together with Charles.
"Charles are you okay? you look sick" Blair said as she join them.
"am fine, its just a little discomfort in my stomach" he answered with a smile. after a while, Maxwell entered the venue. he wore a limited edition blue suit, he looks very handsome and dashing as he made his way to the front.
"this is the second time am seeing our boss and I feel like am in love with him already" Blair said to Sonya who was also admiring him.
"so handsome" Sonya thought and followed him with her eyes all the way.
"you look like you want to swallow him" Blair said teasing her. Sonya stop herself and smiled shyly.
"where is Charles? Blair asked.
"i also don't know" she reply. she was too focused on Maxwell that she forgot Charles was with them.
"lets look for him" Blair said.
"you go look for him outside. I will search around here" Sonya reply and Blair left.
Maxwell said something and it was time for him to dance with any of the ladies present since he is not with a date, Maxwell signal to Amy to bring Sonya to where he was. Amy nodded and walk towards her.
"Sonya, Mr Hart calls for you" she said to her and then her phone start to ring, she signal to Amy to excuse her and pick up the phone.
"hello Sonya, Charles as just been sent to the hospital. i need you to go there. am with my dad and i cant leave right now" Blair voice came through the phone and she cut the call immediately giving Sonya no chance to say anything.
"am sorry but i have to leave right now" she said to Amy who was still standing beside her.
"what happened?" she asked.
"my friend has just been taken to the hospital and i need to go there" she said and start to leave. Amy quickly went back to meet Maxwell and told him and Maxwell followed after her.
"what about the dance?" Amy shouted after him but he did not turn back. He met Sonya outside just about the get a cab. "let me drive you" he said and without waiting for her response he went to get his car. Sonya who was still surprise to see him, stood the same spot till he bought the car and she entered then he drove off.
They arrive at the hospital and Sonya made her way to the reception and ask the nurse. "please where is the patient that was bought here just now? A young guy, I think he has a stomach issue" she asked.
"he is already transfer to the operation room. we are getting prepared to operate on him and we will need you to sign for him."the nurse replied.
"are you his family member?" the nurse asked her.
"i mean no offence but you cant sign if you are not related to him at all.
"am his girlfriend" she replied and quickly collected the paper from the nurse and signed it. Maxwell froze in his step.
"did she just say girlfriend"

After Maxwell left the party, Micheal and Amy took over the first dance before everyone join them. Then Micheal excuse himself and went to meet Mrs hart.
"where is he? Its his birthday celebration and he's nowhere to be found" Celina said not pleased at all.
"he seems to have an urgent business to attend to" Micheal explained.
"what business is so important for him to skip his birthday celebration. Call him right now and tell him to get back here" she commanded.
"I will do just that" he answered and bow his head then walk away from her presence. He tried calling him but he was not picking. Amy also tried reaching but still the same. He did not show up for the party till the end. Celina was so annoyed, Micheal try pacifying her and offer to take her home then he instructed Amy to take care of things there and wait till he gets back and leaves together with them. He drove in to their park and saw Maxwell's car. They alighted from the car and walk over to the other car. Micheal check inside and saw Maxwell sitting in the driver seat with his eyes closed. He knock on the door and Maxwell opened his eye and glance at him. Micheal motioned for him to come out which he did.
"where were you? I thought you had some urgent business to attend to" Celina snap at him.
"am sorry mom, but am very tired. Lets talk tomorrow" he said and went inside. Both Celina and Evelyn were puzzled.
"Micheal, do you have any idea what's wrong with him?" Evelyn turn to ask Micheal.
"its really nothing. i think he's just too tired" he answered and excuse himself and followed Maxwell. when he entered the room Maxwell was already in the bathroom. he waited for him to finish. Maxwell came out with a robe tied around him.
"are you okay?" Micheal ask him.
"i don't know" he reply and sink on a chair near him.
"are you sure? What happened with Sonya?" he asked concerned.
"nothing, just leave am tired" he answered and put on his pyjamas to sleep.
"okay fine i will see you tomorrow" he said and leaves.
After Micheal left Maxwell couldn't sleep. he keep replaying Sonya's word in his head and he felt very jealous and angry at the same time. He thought of the possibility of her just saying it because she had to sign the consent papers.
"then she could have said some else like his sister. And back then when she signed for him five years ago, she would have said the same thing" he thought and toss to and fro on the bed ruminating on her words.

Sonya signed the paper and quickly followed the nurse but had to wait outside the operation room. Maxwell followed her after sometime. he watch her from afar and she seemed really worried about him. She was pasting around without sit for a bit.
"is the one she likes Charles" he had thought that maybe he heard wrong yesterday but its appears not. he wanted to go out but turn back again.
"just like Micheal said he should let her say it to his face" he thought and walk over to her.
"Sonya" he called softly. then she remembered that she has come there with him.
"ah, am so sorry, i forgot you were here" she apologize.
"can i see you in private?" he asked gently.
"sure" she quickly answered and they walk away to a quiet place to talk. they remain silent for a while trying to gather their thoughts.
"ahem, am sorry about earlier. what do you want to see me for?" she asked him and hope in her heart that its what she thinks it is. Maxwell hesitate and decide to ask in another way.
"you have someone you like don't you?" he asked.
"yes" she nodded.
"and that's why you haven't given me a definite answer right?" he asked again. She kept quiet and thought on how to answer him.
"she has not contact handsome man yet and she cant tell Maxwell that because of a friend online she is not yet sure of er feelings or she is trying to make sure she does not make a mistake" she thought.
"but what can i say to him that wont make it look like am rejecting him" she continue in her thought looking for the right word to say. Maxwell keep waiting for her reply and its looks like she didn't intend on saying anything.
"is there a need for you to think about it for that long?" he said again.
"no, its not like that. the thing is… i think we are rushing this. we don't know each other very well yet and also..." she stopped when she could find anything to say again. immediately Maxwell heard her reply, it was like a bucket of cold water was poured on his body.
"I must have inconvenient you right?" he manage to ask. Sonya saw that he has misunderstand her meaning and quickly try to explain.
"no not all" she said and wave her hand to indicate no. but before she could continue, the nurse came to call her to inform her that the operation was done and the doctor wants to see the patient's guardian. she faced the nurse and responded to what she told her. before she turn back to Maxwell, he already left. Sonya wanted to follow him but the nurse urge her and she decide to follow the nurse and text Maxwell immediately that she did not mean no, she did not like him.
