“I’m sorry.”
The length of time it took Nicolae to reply was both awkward and fretful. The, finally, Nicolae shifted his weight to press aside the drapery. “Do not apologize to me, Dustin. If you must ask for forgiveness, ask it of your liver and your stomach.” The two dogs filed past their guardian with sharp ears and wagging tails. “Better yet,” Nicolae added, “ask it of your heart.”
Dustin let his head fall with a heavy sigh. He really needed to stop waking up like this.
