In this peaceful river where many monsters coexist together, I will try to break those balance. I steadied my breath, my lungs intake as much air as possible. Legs slightly curved, eyes widely open, looking at my prey, a lynx.
With mental cue, I run straight into my prey slicing the wind. The faster I run the more adrenaline rush into me. I can feel my foot barely touching the ground with how fast I'm running.
The animal around the river freaks out looking at me charging directly at them. The rabbit got so freaked that it playing dead. The deer family is not in better shape too, the adult deer runs for its life, abandoning its young.
For me, I still charge at them, specifically the lynx, and the faster I run the slower the world becomes. It's like time has just stopped, but I know it's not because the lynx sensing the dangers decide to run.
Seeing that I try to be more faster to cover the distance between us. To counter that the lynx use the same tactics against me, every time I got closer the faster its run.
Now, there are only a few monsters in the river, the lynx from time to time check its back to see if I'm still chasing it. I got dumbfounded when I ignore the young deer, knowing that the lynx never check its back again, it just runs straight into the mountains.
For me, that's not a good thing especially I don't know the mountain's terrain, if it got into the mountain it will blend perfectly with the snowy top. I can't risk of losing it, so I run with the highest speed I ever reach in my life.
I follow every move its makes, if it turns to the right I turn to the right, every move it makes I try to copy it with my own.
As time goes, I got more closer to it.
There is barely any distance between us now, with that I try to grab its tail with my jaw, but it skillfully dodges. And before I know, I already at the bottom of the mountain.
The lynx possibly know about its demise try a different approach, it fights back. It turns back, surprised by that I and the lynx collide. I roll on the rocky terrain, got some scratch all over myself by rocks, and it's not just me the lynx has an even worse wound than myself.
It's not surprising, the lynx is more smaller than me so when we collided it got thrown by the impact far worse than I do, greatly injuring it. The lynx got a big wound on the left side, blood trickling from it.
I found myself standoff with the lynx-injured lynx, to call it that is not right, a half-dead lynx. I see its life dwindling overtime but the lynx still holds onto dear life.
Sorry, but I can't spare you right now, this world is an unforgiving place. In this world, I must learn to kill to survive, if I spare you right my resolve to survive might weaken and that can lead me to death.
I don't want to die, its ironic isn't it the one who wants to kill you right now is fear of dying, isn't that right lynx? Huh... Sorry, but you must die for my sake lynx.
With all my resolve ready, I stick out my claw ready to fight the lynx. I take a step forward, the lynx stay in its spot. Yet again, sorry.
I run to the lynx, it tries to slash me with its claw, I barely dodge it, I fight back and slash its face injuring its eyes. Blood coming from its left eye the lynx frantically throw a random attack.
From that attack, it's injured most of my face I still try to dodge it and covering my fatal spot. Not only the lynx who attack, I too start to counter it. I got my left leg on my jaw, the lynx desperately try to escape it, I give no chance.
I hold its frim within my jaw and with that, I try to drag the lynx and pin it to the ground, it works. I crash my legs bone, making it more frantic to escape.
I release the broken leg, switching my aim to its neck. The neck itself is quite wide making it easy to stick my fangs in. When I bite its neck its starts to convulse but I still hold it frim until it dies one minute later.
Rest in peace brave lynx, your will to life certainly inspired me to live to until the very end. I will not forget you, you will always be in the back of my heart. And if there is a god kind enough out there, please give this lynx a new peaceful life where it doesn't need to suffer. I beg you, god.
Yet again this world reminds me how hard to survive in this world, especially in the wild world of nature. Now, I found myself more grateful and envy at the same time. Grateful because I can live at least for now. Envy because the fact out there exists a human living a more comfortable life than I do.
I miss the old life, the one where it's safer. A place where I don't need to fight for food and it's convenient. A place where you don't have to search for food and a drink from miles away. I miss the earth.
After some remorse, I start to eat the lynx. The lynx has a body length of one meter and is quite thick too. From its body proportion, I can see why it lives in the mountains.
I start eating it from the soft part of its body, its stomach. I eat quickly because I can't stand very long on blood smell, it smells very bad in my nose. After eating its inside I start to continue with its head, after that its fur and after that it legs to finish it off I eat its tail too.
I eat all of its body because to extract its memory I need all of it in my stomach. I found out that if I only eat a portion of its body the memory just didn't come. That's why to gain valuable information I need all of it.
After I finish eating the lynx, I sense a new presence in the area. It shows itself, a bear is what I see, a big bear that slightly bigger and thicker than me.
The bear has brown fur with white fur lines on its body. It has a giant claw, the biggest that I see in this world. Like a bear, it has a short jaw with big fangs in it. What caught my attention is its arm, the arm of a bear, with that big arm and a giant claw, and then swing it makes will be deadly.
This bear looks familiar to me, where did I meet this one before. Hmm... It's the same bear I see on the river. Why did it come here? Did it come here to see the battle between me snd the lynx? Nah that can't be.
Wait, there no way the bear knows where I'm, there no way it can follow the speed of mine and the lynx, it just couldn't catch up. Then how this bear knows where I'm.
Ah! The smell, this bear follow mine and the lynx smell. No, that's can't be, we run so fast it quite impossible to track our smell. Then what it track?
A smell so strong that can attract a bear from miles away. Only blood smell can do that, the lynx blood provides a path for the bear to reach here.
And judging by its intention seems like it comes here thinking that it could get an easy meal. Lynx and wolf fight to the death the survivors survive but got a heavy injury, one dead and one injury, easy prey. What a smart ass.
This bear got some basic intelligence on its shelves. The bear starts to approach me, it seems that its little plan got crushed by me. The lynx it thought to be dead is gone now, and the one it thought to be injured is only full of scars with only a little blood dripping from its face.
Hah! Like I excepted it got mad. I sent low grunts to its warning it to step back. But to no surprise, it answers that with a roar.
Huh... Seems like I got a new problem on my face. What's this is this karma an instant one at that. My goodness, now I can't run away, that's obvious there no way it will let me out.
And what makes matters worse is I'm on the upper side of the mountain and the bear is on the lower side. This means if I want to escape I must cross that bear.
I can't go up, I don't know what lies up there, a dragon or maybe a giant whatever it was they are certainly deadlier than this bear. That's why I chose to fight this bear.
Now the real question is how can I win this fight. The bear certainly looks more stronger than me and it too in more better shape than me.
Can I use something to fight it? Like rocks for example. Well nope, a small rock will just annoy it for a bigger rock I can't throw it because I cant grab a thing even if I can it will easily dodge it.
I already can see this bear have quite a speed. The fact It can come here in a short period proves that it got quite a fast speed comparable to its body.
We look at each other confirming each other intention. Yap! I can see it from its eyes it will not let me escape. That eye is a red-eye, an eye that comes when you are really mad.
The bear approaches me again, this time I grunt even louder but the bear just completely ignores my warnings. So, I kick some rock at the bear.
The bear roar, a big roar I can feel my body slightly numbing by it. Is this a skill or is this just a normal psychological attack. I will assume it's a skill, all of my prey didn't have or use skill before. This situation is turning out to be great and not great to me.
On one hand, I got new valuable information but on the other hand, my enemy is the one that has that skill making it more difficult to defeat.
The bear keeps walking until there only a five-meter distance between us. Seems like the bear know that it cant easily defeat me.
Suddenly out of the blue a headache comes, it's the after-effects of eating the lynx. All of the lynx memory rushing into my mind. On the outside, I maintain my posture to not give any weak point to the bear.
The memory keeps rushing in until sometime, then it finally ended. I thanks myself that I can keep my posture even in an unexpected situation.
The bear maybe sensing something wrong with me made it move. It stands up making itself look big in comparison to me, it tries to intimidate me.
Even so, I will not be intimidated by it, I learn a lesson from the lynx. Fight, fight until the end, even if the opponent is stronger than me, if I can fight then fight it.
Seeing its big body, I know that this is gonna be an intense fight, but it isn't. Why? Because I got a new idea, this one will be a gamble, if I win I live if not then I simply will die. For that matter, I will fully commit to this plans of mine.
