Peerless

“Mas…”

“...ster…”

“Master?”

Nevada opened his eyes and saw the ceiling.

This view was getting more and more familiar, but Nevada wasn’t even slightly worried. After all, he worked in his father’s company for 12 hours a day and kept a strict routine for himself. This sudden change of pace was more than welcome.

It actually wasn’t too bad.

In his opinion at least.

Since if the system had a human heart and human emotions, it would already be biting its nails in anxiety. Never has the system ever had a host as laid back and easygoing as Nevada!

It has met many kinds of people. Some were even more daring and bolder than him. So of course, the system knew how Nevada would end up if he continued to be lazy. Plus, his recent actions when he did something for the mission were a challenge that could very well make him end up getting ejected.

If something had gone wrong, Nevada not only risked his own life but also the original Nevada’s life.

“Master, are you fully awake now?” Lowe asked, her voice a bit louder since Nevada had talked to her the previous night. She used to talk in such a small voice that Nevada had to concentrate on hearing her more clearly.

Nevada was so inspired by Shiloh’s heartfelt speech that he decided to follow his good example.

[...] The system was once again speechless over its host’s wonderfully distorted memory.

“Good morning, Lowe. You don’t usually interfere with my sleep schedule,” Nevada drawled while yawning.

It wasn’t his intention to scold his servant, but from the way Lowe stiffened, he could tell that she took his words differently.

Her shoulders were squared as she looked down and apologized, “M-my apologies…”

Unsure about what to do next, the silence stretched out for a whole minute. Lowe was obviously at a loss. She was good at following orders. After the incidents the other day, she would unconditionally listen to only him and just bowed deeply whenever anyone else asks something of her that goes against Nevada, her master’s words.

Nevada was also aware of this. He had been using his cheats pretty well. He would treat his spying like some random television show he had no choice but to watch because there weren’t better ones on other channels.

Seeing Lowe have a hard time, Nevada guessed that it must have been an order from Shiloh. However, Nevada just stared at her with sleepy eyes. He had no intention of helping her at all.

A quiet knock on the door surprised the poor servant, while Nevada only moved to get up. Of course, he moved slower than a turtle. Dropping his right foot first, then his left, before spreading his arms and feeling the soft bed.

He was very reluctant to part with the silky mattress.

“Lowe, is he awake yet?” Shiloh’s quiet voice was heard from outside the door.

The servant girl neither moved nor replied. She only stood rooted in place, making Nevada glance her way.

“Lowe?” Shiloh called again. His tone was laced with a bit of urgency after a worrying thought crossed his mind.

Lowe met Nevada’s gaze. She flinched and quickly stepped towards the door to answer. The omega master is really scary.

“Alpha Shiloh, the master is awake,” she quietly said once she opened the door.

Contrary to his concerned tone, Shiloh looked rather cold today. He peeked inside and caught sight of Nevada who was busy swinging his arms. He would occasionally try to get up, then he would go lie back down like a magnet drawn to its other pair.

Seeing the carefree appearance of the omega, Shiloh sighed in relief.

The corner of his mouth hooked up slightly as he ordered Lowe, “Then help your master prepare. Quickly, before the Blue Crescent Pack arrives.”

Nevada was pleasantly surprised. He abruptly pushed his body up with both his hands and turned his widened eyes toward Shiloh’s direction.

He didn’t bother checking about anything else the other night. What happened drained his energy. So after receiving such good news from the male lead, he decided not to ruin his mood.

“Since when was this decided?” Nevada couldn’t help asking.

Shiloh didn’t say “his” parents were arriving but that the whole pack was coming. Such a grand merging of two packs, no matter how you look at it, it’s a big event. That means this wasn’t decided in just a day or two.

“Two days ago…”

Nevada nodded. Shiloh stepped inside and shifted, wanting to say something but didn’t know how to say it. Until Nevada impatiently asked, “What is it?”

Shiloh decided to just be honest. Since the omega wasn’t exactly like other werewolves and omegas he knew, it would probably be fine.

“Don’t be too shocked,” Shiloh started, making Nevada raise an eyebrow at the suspense. “Not everyone from Blue Crescent will be coming…”

He trailed, observing Nevada’s face for any kind of reaction.

“...so you may not see some of your friends.”

Nevada scoffed. What friends?

Shiloh immediately understood his reaction. He said, “But you should have at least someone you’re acquainted with?” If not, then there must really be something wrong in the pack since that would mean parts of the reports he received were false.

He doesn’t feel particularly betrayed. Shiloh has always expected that they would one day run into issues like this. Given the size of their pack, they'd eventually encounter dogs straying from the path.

He will have to scour the pack carefully before they grow too bold and cause irreparable situations.

“They’re all minions of that bitch, Cheyenne,” Nevada replied, his cheeks puffing, which interrupted Shiloh's thoughts.

“You don’t like her?”

“...Are you crazy?” Nevada asked incredulously. The way his cheeks flattened as if popped by a needle was too amusing for Shiloh. His smile became more defined and couldn’t be hidden anymore by just simply curving his mouth.

“Don’t they say that she’s the beauty of Blue Crescent?” Shiloh continued in a teasing tone.

Nevada shivered, cringing so hard that he got up to shake off the goosebumps. “If you think the same, then you need a new pair of working eyes.”

Lowe, who was preparing what Nevada would need this morning, moved without a sound to get his indoor slippers from beside the bed. She laid them on the floor, near her master’s feet.

Nevada’s frown lightened as he paused to wear them. No wonder his feet felt cold. He actually forgot to slip his fluffy slippers on.

“Right. Such nonsense is unforgivable." He heard Shiloh agree, appeasing him.

Of course, what Shiloh said had some truth in it. Those wolves from Blue Crescent would avoid talking about the heir and instead spread around gloating about Cheyenne’s incomparable beauty.

Still, however unspoken Nevada’s looks were, all these mountains have heard of him. In fact, he was so infamous that some stolen pictures of him were even secretly passed around in the guise of criticizing the heir.

How could the next alpha of Blue Crescent look so shamefully feminine? What of their dignity? What a stain on all of the alphas' names. Furthermore, they understood how generous the couple may be, but how could they entrust such responsibility to this kind of outsider?

However, deep inside the women were envious hearts, while the men were disappointed that those impressive looks were wasted on a man.

Shiloh didn’t care about the rumors, though. First of all, he was too engrossed with his mate. He wouldn’t waste his time on some notorious guy with a bad reputation. That wouldn’t be his mate.

Second, Shiloh just found those kinds of small talk boring. Especially since it didn’t have anything to do with him. How uninteresting.

Anyhow, the situation is different now.

“That person wouldn’t compare to my mate,” Shiloh added.

The drowsiness and disgust in Nevada’s eyes instantly cleared up.

Look at this guy boasting about someone who he hasn’t even met yet. Though, Nevada would admit that he was slightly embarrassed.

Once this man finds out that he was actually boasting about his unknown mate in front of “his” mate, what would his reaction be? It would probably be so funny.

Smirking arrogantly, Nevada decided to lift his own chair and said, “You’re right. Since you’re so impressive, your mate must be attractive as well. No, they should be someone with peerless beauty! I mean, if not, then that wouldn’t be doing you justice, huh?”

Puffing his chest, Nevada walked over to Shiloh, who was leaning against the wall near the door. He raised his hand and proudly placed it on the alpha’s shoulder.

“Don’t worry! The moon goddess surely knows who to match you best with! I bet they’re someone beyond excellent!”

Nevada watched Shiloh’s dumbfounded expression. After a few seconds of not hearing any answer from him, Nevada put down his hand and waved the alpha away. Shiloh seemed to have turned stupid from happiness over receiving such profound praises for his mate.

“Now, go. I’ll be out in a jiffy.” Nevada snickered as he imagined the future.

Blinking, Shiloh could only step out and stare as the door closed in front of him. He wondered, ‘Was the omega gloating so much because he knew? But that can’t be. He wasn’t of age yet… Then was it something like reverence towards the future Luna? Then why does it feel like he was praising himself…?’

He recalled Nevada's face which was full of delight as he shut the door.

It can’t be… right?
