David reached in front of his house door and took in a deep breath as he placed his hand on the doorknob. He contemplated if he should open the door or not.

Images of Rebecca and Rick continued to move through his mind.

He was scared that Rick might still be in there and he was scared of the fact that he would have to face Rick head-on.

Rick was a grade C awakened and David was like an ant in front of him.

He would not be able to defend himself if anything happened.

And even the police would not do anything to a grade C awakened.

That was the benefit of being awakened, even the government supported them and considered normal people like ants.

After building up some courage David finally opened the door and moved inside.

He quickly moved towards the living area to look for Rebecca, however, she was not there.

Placing his bag on the sofa he looked around.

"Rebecca." He called her out, however, no response came.

'Where is she?' He thought and started moving towards their bedroom.

And when he did so he could hear faint sobbing noises coming from the room.

'She is inside.' He thought and quickly opened the door.

Inside he could see her on the corner of the bed.

She was sitting there with her knees in front of her chest and her head was buried between them.

She was sobbing continuously not even realising that David had already entered the room.

A worried expression appeared on David's face and he moved towards her to comfort her.

And on the way to her, he saw the condition of the room.

Everything was a mess.

The bed sheet was on the floor and pillows were in the corner of the room.

The fake flower pot that David brought a few months ago to decorate the room was also on the floor.

In front of the bed, he could see a camera and laptop connected to his TV.

David knew what happened here.

Rick and Rebecca messed up the whole room as they continued to fuck each other.

Blood rushed through David's veins as he contemplated if he should go back to Stacy.

However, he controlled himself when his focus moved to Rebecca again, she was crying her eyes out.

Soon he reached beside her and placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Rebecca..."

When Rebecca felt a touch on her shoulder she suddenly jolted from her place and moved away.

David could tell that she was startled.

"David..."

Rebecca called out when she saw him through her teary eyes.

She quickly stood up from the bed and hugged him tightly.

Her sobbing got even more intense when she hugged him.

"David... I am sorry... Please! Please forgive me..." She started begging with a choked voice.

David could feel her body shaking in his embrace.

He took in a deep breath and moved his hands around her body.

"Rebecca, calm down." He said in a low tone.

"Please... Forgive me... David... Please don't leave me... I love you." Rebecca kept repeating her words as her grip got even tighter around his body.

It was as if she was scared that David might leave the moment she let him go.

"Calm down Rebecca," David said again and gently moved away from her embrace.

He then made her sit on the bed while he picked up a bottle of water that was placed on the table beside the bed.

"Here drink this water and calm down." He said as he handed her the water bottle.

He wanted her to calm down first, he can't talk to her when she is all emotional.

Rebecca looked at him and after some time she finally took the bottle from his hand and drank some water.

And only after that did she calm down and meet eyes with him.

"What happened?" David asked.

"I didn't wanna do it..." She said as she moved her eyes away in shame.

David sighed at her words. "Then why?"

Rebecca stood up from the bed again and tears formed in her eyes.

"I did this for us..." She said as she placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Why?" David asked again. "You didn't need to."

"He said that he would kick both of us out of the company." She leaned her head on his shoulder.

"We have so many loans on us and we are not even awakened... We needed this job." She said again.

David placed his hand on her back. "You didn't have to. I could have figured something out."

"No, you don't understand. Our lives would have been destroyed. And we would have to be separated if our jobs got lost." Rebecca moved her head up and looked at him.

"I didn't want that to happen. I love you and I can do anything for you." She said.

David turned silent at her words. "Why would we be separated?" He looked at her with his brows furrowed.

"How could we live together when both of us have no job? My family would have never let us be together."

David listened to her and started contemplating.

He could understand what she meant.

Rebecca's father was awakened and he was against their marriage in the first place.

And if he found out that they lost their jobs then he would have forced Rebecca to divorce.

"You were doing this for me?" David asked as tears formed in his eyes.

"Yes, Rick said he would kill us both if we didn't do it..." Rebecca said and also started sobbing again.

David hugged her tightly when he heard her words, he didn't know that Rebecca was sacrificing herself for him.

This was a dangerous world, where the life of a normal human was considered worthless, so no one would help them if a superhuman was against them.

'I wonder if Stacy would help us against Rick?' David thought however scrapped the idea quickly.

He knew that if he were to take help from Stacy then he would have to divorce Rebecca and he didn't want that to happen.

He took in a deep breath and tears began falling down his eyes and landed on Rebecca's shoulders.

When she felt him crying a mocking expression appeared on her face.

'He is such a fool. If not for Master Rick's orders I would have already left him alone.' She thought and then her crying face appeared on her face again.

It was clear that she was acting and was not really doing this for David.

After some moment David looked at her face with teary eyes. "I am sorry I doubted you. Don't worry we will get out of this together." He said.

Rebecca nodded at her words and rested her head on his shoulder again.

"Thank you so much for understanding, you are such a nice guy David. This is the reason I love you so much." She said.

"I love you too. And don't worry, I will find a solution to this." He said and started patting her back to comfort her.

"Thanks." A disdainful smile appeared on Rebecca's face.

After some time she moved away from him and looked at the room. "I will clean this up, you go and take a bath." She said.

David nodded at her words.

He felt powerless against Rick and started thinking about the ways he could take himself and Rebecca out of this situation.

He then started moving towards the bathroom.

"By the way..." Rebecca's words suddenly stopped him in the way and he turned around to look at her.

"Master Rick left this for you." She said and moving towards him she handed him an envelope.

David looked at her with his brows furrowed. "Why are you addressing him as Master?"

Rebecca gulped her saliva at her words and looked down with a guilty expression.

"Because he has ordered me to do it. And I don't wanna risk offending him. I can't see something happening to you..." Tears formed in her eyes again.

David listened to her and a sting of pain moved through his chest. "Ok, ok don't start crying again." He said and clenched his fist in anger.

'Just how much humiliation will have to go through.' He thought and took the envelope from her hands and placed it in his pocket.

He didn't check it just now and instead entered the bathroom to take a bath.

After about two hours both of them sat in the living area on the sofa in silence.

David looked at her and felt sad.

Rebecca was sitting on the sofa and staring at the wall soullessly. 'She is hurt. I have to treat her gently.'

David took in a deep breath and moved closer to her and then he placed his hand on her chin and moved his face to look in her eyes.

Rebecca saw his face and stayed neutral. "What happened?"

David didn't say anything and, taking in another deep breath he leaned towards her to kiss her on the lips.

When Rebecca saw him leaning in with his eyes closed a disgusted expression appeared on her face.

'How dare this pathetic guy dare to kiss me after what happened today?!'
