Chapter 4

The morning of Hazel's birthday quickly arrived and at breakfast time Hazel was extremely excited. She couldn't wait to get to school because that's where she was most likely to meet her mate for the first time.

Hazel's Dad was there for breakfast for the first time in years and Hazel was happy to see him.

"Hi Dad," Hazel greeted her Dad.

"Morning Hazel," Hazel's Dad smiled and ruffled her hair which Hazel didn't particularly like as she had just spent ages straightening her hair. However, she didn't say nothing and smoothed her hair down with her fingers, she wanted to look nice for the first time meeting her mate. "Excited to meet your mate today?"

"Of course I am. I've been waiting for this day to come for years," Hazel's excitement grew within each second. Ever since she had been old enough to understand the meaning of soul mates, Hazel wanted a mate for her own and wanted to be just like her parents. Happy and in love for the rest of her life.

Snow rolled her eyes.

"Don't roll your eyes Snow," Hazel's Mum noticed. "You will soon turn 16 and will be meeting your mate for the first time,"

"I don't want a mate," Snow shrugged and everyone looked at her like she had grown another head.

"How can you not want a mate?" Hazel questioned. "Don't you want to be happy with that one special person?"

"Nope," Snow confirmed.

"You're saying that now. When you see your mate for the first time, you will always want to be with him, I can promise you that,"

"We'll see," Snow shrugged and got back to her breakfast.

Once breakfast was over, Hazel was the first one to get out the door. She was too excited to meet her mate.

"Calm down," Snow warned. "It's not like you can spend time with your mate if you meet him, you have lessons all day remember?"

"I know but the sooner I meet him the more time I will have with him. If I meet him now then we can arrange to meet in the breaks and-"

"Ok, I get the message," Snow hushed her sister before they walked to school in silence.

As usual when they arrived to school they went their separate ways. However, instead of meeting Casper like she normally did, Hazel began to search the hall ways for her mate instead.

Hazel searched and searched for her mate but there was no sign of him anywhere and when the bell rang for registration, Hazel was forced to give up and make her way to registration after which her lessons began but still she didn't see her mate anywhere.

By the end of the day, all the excitement of finding her mate was lost and Hazel went home upset.

"Hazel what's wrong?" Hazel's Mum questioned Hazel's watery eyes as she entered the house.

"I didn't find my mate today," Hazel cried into her mother's arms.

"Oh honey! It's ok, you just turned 16, there's still plenty of time to find him. Don't worry,"

Hazel sniffled before agreeing with her Mum and went to her room before she was called down for her small birthday party with family. Hazel wasn't in the mood for a party and in her opinion there was nothing to celebrate because she hadn't found her mate.

"Cheer up Hazel, you will find him," Hazel's Mum assured her. "Come have some cake," Hazel's Mum encouraged.

Hazel reluctantly had some cake with the hope it would make her forget her misery but it didn't. All she could think about was the mate she didn't meet. Even Tigger's hug couldn't make her smile. Nothing would make her smile now, nothing but her mate.
