A New Necromancer

The promised meeting place between Careon and his master, a huge tree with 3 vines hanging on the branch, inside the forest near Lord Renald's castle.

For his own safety, Careon waited until most people in the castle was asleep, including Lana. And wearing his long dark coat, he carefully made his way around the castle and into the forest without anyone noticing.

It took him only a few minutes to find the meeting place. It was deep inside the forest, where every tree was blooming with green leaves just after winter. But the tree with 3 vines hanging on its branch was rotten.

Its wood rotten and weak, and some of the branches have already fallen from the main body. It gave of an unique aura that every necromancer knew what the aura was, the aura of darkness and death.

A smirk came on his face when he was sure that he was in the right place, "Master?"

"…Careon, you have finally arrived," Showing himself from behind the rotten tree, a man with a body that lacked fat, a skinny man. The bones of his face and arms could be seen from far away, even though under the robe.

"Why have you requested to meet me? It has only been a few days since we last meet, is it…" Caroen asked curiously.

Though before his own disciple could even finish his words, the man responded, "Yes, it has something to do with the… creatures. I have experimented with it and can't find the exact answer,"

Careon's eyes widened, this can only mean one thing, "Do you mean magic doesn't affect it? It can't kill this creature?"

"Then… Is it not undead?"

A moment of silent between the two of them.

Suddenly, the master flicked his fingers. Then came two skeletons from the nearby woods, the two of them dragging while at the same time, restraining the same creature Careon saw before.

The creature itself was still aggressive, its eyes red, he bit his mouth over and over as if he was screaming in hunger.

"This is a subject I captured," The man slowly approached the creature.

"Magic casted by a magician nor holy magic casted by a priest works on this creature, the same applies to dark magic," The man said, as he grabbed the head of the creature.

"Then how do we kill …it?" Careon asked, sweat began running on his face, his heart thumped really loudly.

"The brain is the most important part of this creature, if you could destroy its brain, then it will lose," The man stated before continuing.

"But… This meeting is not only about this creature alone, there is something more to this,"

"What is it master?" Careon asked curiously, the voice of his master, for some reason, soothed his mind.

"Your skeleton, I have seen what you have done yesterday. This will be your final test, with a skeleton, kill this creature, now!" His master shout, commanding him to kill the creature, made him smiling excitedly.

He extended his hand forward toward the two skeleton and gained control of it. His master could only smirk from the side, proud of what Careon managed to do.

Careon smirked in response, he knew he could do this, no, he knew he must do this to proclaim himself as a new necromancer.

With his mind, he controlled the two skeleton, where the two of them drew their weapons, sword and axe, 'Attack that creature,'

The skeletons obliged to its master, Careon. With their sword and axe, they struck the creature, one swing of the axe made the creature fell on the ground, still aggressive, one swing of the sword made a cut in the flesh of the creature.

The creature itself obviously fought back, it swung its hand to the bones of the skeleton to produce a minimal damage. Sometimes it tried to bite the skeletons, but always failed as it was always struck down in a matter of seconds.

'Behead it,' Careon commanded the skeletons with his mind.

And the skeletons obliged, with a downward swing of the axe and sword, at the same exact time, the creature was beheaded. It didn't move nor showed any aggression anymore after its head was beheaded.

"Such a sight to be seen by me. The prodigy of necromancers, this is the first time I have seen a person become a necromancer in just a few months. I, your master, congratulate you, Careon," The man smiled proudly.

Careon too was proud of himself, his smile slowly grew bigger and bigger. But one more thing in his mind, the fact that he could control the dead and the fact that he felt safe knowing he could kill the creatures.

"With this… With this, I will make sure my family is safe," Careon mumbled to himself.

"Careon… The path of a necromancer is hard, often times people will tell you that you are evil, do not care for them, do not hear them, focus on your art." His master said, after hearing what Careon said to himself.

"…I will master," With a slight hesitation, Careon responded to his master. He knew that there is no turning back but then, he often heard the story of necromancers caught and beheaded. Of course he never cared for it before and before but this time, knowing that he had become a newly proclaimed necromancers, he slowly realized what will happen if he was caught from now on.

"Then, next time we meet, will be the time you meet with the other necromancers. See you again, my beloved disciple," The master slowly disappeared into the darkness of the forest, leaving Careon smiling alone.

With such accomplishment accomplished by his own hands. Careon dismantled the two skeletons and made his way toward the castle, still very happy of what he just achieved, "From now on, I'm a necromancer… I need to learn better on how to control my emotions though,"

Just as he emerged out from the forest, he saw the bunch of crowd outside the castle, "What is that?"

"OPEN THE GATES!" A man shouted from horseback, to the castle guard.

"Tell me your identity then we'll open this gate!"

"I'm Marcus! The lord of the west, Lord Renald surely knew of my name if you tell him!"

"…I will send a message to him!" The castle guard shouted back.

"And one more thing… Is my son, Careon, safe?"
