Bardeelus and his team succeeded, and had swiftly reunited too. He managed to kill enough scouts, to leave these scorpions utterly disoriented and clueless. The scorpions would only be able to track down a handful of slaves, that is, if they weren't already demotivated. Such amounts weren't enough to reverse the damage, obviously.
Aside from that, a lot of scorpions had likely died back in the mine, under the wrath of those red bandit bugs. Bardeelus could imagine how shattered the scorpions were feeling now, since for them it was imperative to preserve their unique people.
One dead friend was a tragedy for them, on account of how useful a single scorpion was. Bardeelus predicted that a hundred of them died already, so the grief amongst the survivors must be soul shattering!
"Shit… I didn't even want to kill them, I just wanted my sister back. It was still fun, Audera was worse than a loose cannon." He thought.
Regardless of the fun, the whole concept of that battle still seemed pointless. Now, he considered some of the minor losses too.
He thought, "I lost all four of my slaves there, we could've used Kutal like a mule. That was all he was good for, gods damn them."
It was certain that his slaves had died off, for the second time. He didn't feel any connection with them whatsoever, and he could tell for sure, because his soul and essence felt free now, rather than pressured beyond torture.
"They… disconnected." He thought, "This means they fought a bunch of scorpions, and got slaughtered. My assumptions are correct then, at least a hundred scorpions died."
The recent events forced him to be more calculative, and it had its benefits. He wasn't as clueless anymore, so likewise he became more aware of some other things.
"A wacky scout almost killed me," He recalled, "I felt so dizzy, if Erdeta hadn't screamed like a toad, I'd be dead."
These feelings were really perplexing, and he could remember each detail of a recent tussle. He wanted to kill a couple of scouts at once, but at that moment, he felt extremely disoriented, which put him in grave danger.
By now he guessed what was wrong. He felt that way, because of the distance he had from the people he had enslaved. That distance weighed on his soul and consciousness at the wrong time, which almost killed him.
He survived thankfully, but the concept of survival wasn't so important here. Now that he felt refreshed and alert, Bardeelus started to accept the crushing and randomly occurring truth that he was weak, pretty weak!
Even as a 'pure necromancer', the best of its kind, he could only control a few creatures at a time. His powers were underdeveloped, as he could only blow up hearts right now, which hinted that he wasn't a fully awakened necromancer.
His powers were extremely bracketed right now, so to some degree he was only surviving by luck. Erdeta saved him, in a way, which at this point was rock-bottom, because her powers revolved around evasion and escape, rather than hostility.
Bardeelus was a sitting duck, everywhere he went. Now, he felt the urge to learn more about necromancy, or at least, he was reminded of its importance.
He wanted to rush and find that locator tower, he even obsessed over it for a few minutes, but then he was reminded of some responsibilities. He had siblings to protect and escort, and that aside, he may not be accepted properly back home.
Indefinitely, he was bracketed by both his limited powers, and this crushing responsibility. Progress was unlikely in the near future, so he could only hope for the best right now.
…
Bardeelus' family and its name, was not to be taken lightly. It was expansive, more of a family forest rather than a tree.
It wasn't the richest, but respected nonetheless. Within the island of Arberus' ever shifting borders, a family this big, helped maintain peace and was therefore respected.
"Mom and dad won't be happy," He thought, "They may get angrier over the destroyed camp… this can be a headache."
That was a safe assumption, safe as in metaphorically. He may get banished or put on a spike.
The Ebus family had a lot of pride about their camps. There were tens of camps like the one Bardeelus left behind, which were meant to keep marauders at bay.
The idea was to maintain peace across portions of Arberus, which they could control, and maintain what was left of the trade routes. That philosophy may not be as protected, if a bunch of Ebus family members along with its camps, got slaughtered off.
Bardeelus expected the worst at home for that matter, but thankfully, he could cool his head for a couple of days, before possibly getting locked in a basement as punishment.
The closest family, or his parents, to be exact, were about fifteen kilometers away, in the middle of a big village. They had to travel by foot there, since Erdeta couldn't carry them all; This would take some time.
Not to mention, Zera had brought about seven slaves along. They were all women, who sought refuge ~ It was moral, if not imperative, to get them across the forest safely.
Anyway, since they had to travel across a considerable distance, it was important to take breaks once in a while.
For that matter, Bardeelus easily found and killed a deer, so everyone could have a warm and fatty meal. The team made a little campfire in the middle of the forest, and in the meantime, he wanted to use this brief pause in their travels to talk to his siblings.
There was a lot of turmoil between all three of them, and it had to be addressed. Fenik was no longer asleep, which could aid the conversation, if not make it worse.
Though somehow, this same man who spent hours stashed in a sack, was less hated than Bardeelus. The hate that was tossed towards him instead was raw and barbaric, he didn't know how to handle it.
While Audera and Erdeta were gutting the deer, Zera had to start some drama. Her verbal hatred slashed against Bardeelus, and he was so shocked for a second that he dropped a bunch of sticks!
"You're a monster!" Zera shouted.
"Calm down motherfucker," Bardeelus bit back, "Would a monster kill a hundred people to… wait nevermind, you may be on to something there. I still saved you, though."
