Chapter 44: Chiba In The Hinterland

The wind blew against Chiba's face as he walked alone in the desert, with the scorching sun hanging in the sky.

"I have no idea which direction to go," he muttered to himself, feeling a bit uncertain as he looked at the endless desert.

After leaving the rest station, Chiba decided to go in the opposite direction of Ninja Hawk. He believed that it would lead him toward the Sand Shinobi Village.

"If I'm heading in the right direction, I'll infiltrate the Sand Shinobi Village and make a fortune," he thought to himself.

With Rosa's presence, Chiba felt determined to wreak havoc in the village and make his efforts worthwhile.

"The elite Sand Shinobi are all at the border, so the village's interior should be empty," he mused, filled with hope.

But then, a sense of regret washed over him. He realized that in his haste, he forgot to collect the feces from the rest station.

Suddenly, a chirping sound caught his attention. Chiba looked up and saw Ninja Hawk hovering high in the sky.

"It has spotted me again," he sighed helplessly.

In the vast desert with no shelter, he was like a shining target, easily detectable.

"It seems that the Sand Shinobi will be coming soon," he thought, undeterred by the presence of Ninja Hawk. He continued his journey forward.

As expected, a group of ten Sand Shinobi began pursuing him.

However, before they could get close, nine of them suddenly disappeared, lying lifeless on the ground.

The remaining Sand Shinobi attempted to escape but found themselves surrounded by ten floating dung fists, too terrified to move.

"Do you want to undress yourself, or should I do it for you?" Chiba approached the Sand Shinobi with a threatening smile.

Hearing his words, the Sand Shinobi clenched his buttocks tightly, his face turning green.

"Brother, can't you spare me and just take my pants?" the Sand Shinobi pleaded.

With a swift punch, Chiba knocked the Sand Shinobi unconscious and proceeded to change into his uniform. He even helped the unconscious shinobi put on Chiba's own clothes.

"The rest is up to you," Chiba said sincerely, looking at the comatose shinobi.

Activating his imitation ability, Chiba created a Soil Clone covered in excrement.

"Still tastes delicious," Chiba remarked emotionally, walking away as the dung avatar picked up the unconscious Sand Shinobi and ran off in another direction.

As Chiba distanced himself from the clone, Ninja Hawk chased after it, leaving Chiba free to proceed.

"This ninja hawk doesn't seem very smart; it only recognizes clothes and not people," Chiba commented.

After running for a while, Chiba saw Ninja Hawk depart and decided to pick up the pace. Walking alone in the desert was proving to be too slow.

Activating his imitation ability once more, Chiba created a dung mat.

"Standing on dung is really absurd," he thought, realizing the need for some adjustments.

With a wave of his hand, the excrement on the sand mat condensed into a ball, which he then threw into his mouth. The dung mat transformed into a genuine sand mat.

With a loud bang, Chiba jumped onto the sand mat and activated his mind.

The sand mat accelerated, carrying him swiftly through the air.

Meanwhile, at the Sand Shinobi frontline command post, Chiyo paced back and forth, visibly anxious. Ebizō followed behind her sister, wanting to offer comfort but unsure of what to say.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed outside the house. Chiyo quickly moved towards the door and pulled in the intelligence agent who hadn't entered yet.

"Tell me, what's the situation?" she demanded, eager to know the status of the rest station.

The trembling intelligence agent began, "It's flooded... the rest station was flooded by a large cesspit..."

"How is that possible?" Chiyo couldn't believe what she was hearing and was taken aback.

A flooded rest station filled with a cesspit? It sounded like a ridiculous joke. Were there really such things as shitholes in the desert?

The intelligence agent stammered, trying to convey more information, but he was promptly thrown out again.

"Any more?" Chiyo asked, approaching the agent.

"Gone," he managed to say before being swiftly ejected once more.

Closing the door, Chiyo furrowed her brow, lost in thought. Sea Burial didn't dare interrupt her sister's contemplation and could only wait silently.

Finally, Chiyo broke the silence.

"Ebizō, dispatch Ninja Hawk immediately and deliver the information about the rest station to Kazekage," she commanded.

"And gather the captains; I want them to come to see me. We need to form a hunting team of hundreds of people."
