Prologue: It All Started When...

Many of you will know the story of Ben Tennyson, the wielder of the Omnitrix. 19 years ago, the Omnitrix latched onto the boy's wrist and kickstarted his destiny as a hero. Using the Omnitrix's ability to change into different alien species, Ben saved the Earth and the galaxy time and time again.

Fourteen years after acquiring the Omnitrix, tragedy struck. At the age of twenty-four, in a battle against an unusually strong Petrosapien, (or Diamondhead as Ben liked to call the form) he was dealt a critical blow. He was caught off guard and before he could react a diamond spear was sticking out of his back through his stomach. Barely managing to finish the fight, Ben fell into a coma.

When he woke a month later, the damage was beyond repair. While the Omnitrix could normally repair injuries, it couldn't do so without being activated. The injuries he suffered would have killed him if they tried to use the Omnitrix while he was unconscious; because of this, Ben was forced to retire from the only way of life he'd ever known.

It was with great pain that the creator of the Omnitrix, Azmuth of the planet Galvan Prime, came and removed the device from Ben's wrist. His abrupt retirement was hard for Ben to accept. If not for the help of his cousin, Gwen, and his best friend Kevin Levin, he would have been completely lost. The road to recovery was long. By the time Ben was able to live by himself again, he longed for the life he lost. With most of his respiratory system having been damaged, Ben was compensated for life by the Plumbers, the intergalactic police force he and his grandfather were a part of.

The retired life wasn't for Ben, though. As much fun as it was to sit around home, playing video games, watching tv and movies, he had to do something. Giving up the hero's life nearly killed him, but as fate would have it… opportunity knocked right at his door.

The very alien that unknowingly offered him the chance of a lifetime once before, was now giving him yet another.

In the five years following Ben's retirement, Azmuth had come to the conclusion that the galaxy needed a new champion to wear the Omnitrix. The Galvan had come to Ben and asked for his help to find and train his successor.

Without any hesitation, Ben said yes.

Much to his surprise, they didn't have to leave the planet.
