63 The Power of Sonic

Walking out back to the training field of the Otozoku clan, we were standing and listening to the clan head talk about the basics of the sound jutsu.

"As you guys probably already know, our sound jutsus are not a kekkei genkai but a hidden technique we pass down between everyone in the clan. These jutsus can get very complex or very simple depending on what you want to do with the jutsu itself."

We nodded as he continued to explain how they worked. "In order to be able to use sound jutsu, though, you need a talent for it. Everyone from our clan is able to use sound jutsus well, but outside of us, it may be hard to find a large number of people really gifted with it. The second thing is the ability to change the frequency of your chakra as you're forming hand signs. Without this step, using our jutsus will never result in anything, which leads you back to the talent issue." Teru looked over at a young Chunin standing off to the side and nodded.

The young Chunin proceeded to make hand seals at a fairly slow pace, allowing all four of us to keep up and see exactly what he was doing.

Rat - Boar - Dog followed by a clap caused the air to hum and vibrate as if the space around the Chunin was being warped. This field was a little odd to sense with my M E; it was almost as if my ears were ringing constantly and I couldn't get them to stop.

Not even a second later, a dome of what looked like heat waves started to form around the Chunin. Noticing the change, I focused on it even more through my M E and widened my eyes slightly in intrigue. Through my sensory abilities, I wasn't able to sense any sound coming out of the dome; it was almost as if the entire area inside of the dome became isolated. (A/N: think of the heat waves you can see coming off the concrete during the summer).

Clearing his throat, the clan head kept talking. "This is called Sound Deadening Jutsu. When this jutsu is used, any sound made inside of the dome cannot escape. It allows every sound wave to collide with the barrier but then it sends back an equal sound wave effectively canceling the sound out. This jutsu will take a toll on the user after a while and is also dependent on how loud the sound made inside the barrier is. The louder the sound, the more chakra is required to hold the barrier."

The Chunin followed up with some more hand signs and finished by holding his hands in front of his body.

What formed in front of his hands was a sphere that seemed to shake and shiver as if the atoms within this sphere were ready to be released in a violent blast of energy at any second. "This jutsu is called Echoing Blast. You perform this jutsu by building up and violently shaking the building chakra until it creates a sphere. After this sphere is built up, you release the chakra in a single direction and watch as a violent shockwave of sound is released."

The Chunin turned towards a practice dummy and released the blast of violent kinetic energy.

Boom.

The blast left a shockwave behind as it blasted a large cone shape toward the dummy. As the dummy was blown apart, the smaller shockwave left behind hit all four of us, and it felt a little different than normal. It was so minute that without my mind's eye, I wouldn't have picked up the slight shift in wavelength of the signature that was produced.

Tap tap tap.

I turned my head to look at Benimaru. "You felt that too, right?"

I smirked as I turned my head back to the jutsu demonstration. "I did feel it. I'm surprised you did too, though. Normally, subtle differences in the chakra signatures of jutsus aren't picked up easily, especially if you don't have a special sensory ability."

"Yeah, I don't know what it was, but it just felt different in the slightest way. Honestly, I wasn't sure if it was a big deal or anything, which is why I asked you."

Thinking about it a little more, I was genuinely intrigued by how he felt the difference between the chakra signature of the first and second jutsu that was demonstrated. "Maybe it's because of your bloodline that you're able to pick up the subtle differences in the signature?"

Losing himself in thought, Benimaru nodded his head. "Yeah, you're probably right. I guess I'll just have to wait until we get home and I can learn the jutsu so I can test it on a couple of my fellow clansmen."

I nodded as we watched the next couple of jutsu that were released and picked up on the subtle differences between each jutsu.

'So each jutsu has a different frequency which allows the chakra to take on different effects. I also noticed that the higher the frequency is, the higher the piercing damage a jutsu has. Meanwhile, the lower the frequency that a jutsu has, the harder the blunt force of a jutsu will be. It honestly impresses me how an entire secret clan technique was able to be made just by changing the frequency of their chakra. I wonder if this would fall under the yin chakra nature or possibly lightning.'

Benimaru turned to me again with reluctant eyes, which threw me off a little. "Hey, do you think you'd be willing to help me create a couple of sound jutsus to expand my jutsu list outside of fire release?"

Smiling at him, I nodded. "Of course, I'd be happy to help you out with this. I can't have you falling too far behind me and Kiyoko; otherwise, we'll have to leave you on the sidelines again."

Rolling his eyes, he turned away again while I thought about how I could integrate the sound aspect into my storm release. 'I could create something similar to the sound of lightning striking that focuses on disorienting an opponent. Perhaps a subtle genjutsu that utilizes low rumbling thunder. Maybe a thunderclap type of jutsu that allows me to use both blinding light from lightning release and the disorientation of sound. There are plenty of ideas out there, that's for sure.' I smiled at the possibilities.

(A/N: If you have any sound jutsu ideas, lmk, I'll be more than happy to try and find a way to integrate them into the story.)
