Naruto: Time Traveler

MC reincarnates in the world of Naruto with ability to control time and travel back in time, that will help him survive but not make him strong directly. To climb to the top MC have to rely on his own capabilities and build up his own strength himself, as he don’t have any bloodline or exceptional talent to rely on. Story starts slow and MC will not become OP any time soon but he will work all the way up to the top eventually. If you prefer novels where MC is strong from the start – you won’t find it here. --- There will not be any harem and probably there will be no romance either, or maybe not, let’s see how story would progress. But definitely no harem! I will focus on the realism, darkness and cruelty of the shinobi world, so there will be some violence, gore and occasional unfairness, and story might be a hardcore one compared to most of the Naruto fanfics. Also, I have to admit that early chapters are bad, like first 20 chapters or so written quite poorly, but I’m improving as time goes. So, you are warned, don’t read this fanfic if it’s a problem for you. --- Updates: 5-7 chapters a week, no fixed schedule. Chapters in advance on patreon /SycoreNovels.

Chunin Exam

[AN: I need your opinion on something guys, so please read my question below the chapter and share your opinion on it in the comments, I will very appreciate that!]

After staring for a little more time at Tatsuko's dead body, Yuta used barrier seals and his water release to make the scene look like the last time he fought with Tatsuko, with a little difference this time as she 'commit a suicide' at the end of the fight and Yuta didn't lose his right arm.

Yuta stored Tatsuko's body in the sealing scroll and went to the team gathering point. This time Yuta arrived much earlier in the middle of the night and met with Koichi and Itachi, Hikari was not there yet.

Yuta told Koichi about the fight and gave the scroll to him. Shortly after that Hikari showed up and told Koichi about her fight, then the team rested for the rest of the night and went back to the village in the morning.

After two days team arrived at the village at noon, went straight to the Hokage Tower and Koichi reported about their mission to the mission hall receptionist. After hearing about three rogue shinobi including a Jonin-level enemy the receptionist was surprised by this information.

When Koichi said that his team dealt with two Chunin-level rogue shinobi without his assistance, people around the group started whispering among themselves in surprise, as everyone there is a shinobi it was not hard to hear what those whispers all about.

"They are just freshly graduated Genins, right? And they already fought against Chunin rogue shinobi…"

"I heard that all three of them are around eight years old now, and they are already on this level!"

"I heard about Uchiha Itachi, everyone speaks he is a rare genius, the other two are also talented kids from civilian background."

"No wonder they dealt with enemy Chunins, it was likely Itachi's merit…"

The team went outside, Itachi had a complicated expression, while Hikari was annoyed by those whispers, as it was her who dealt with one of the Chunins, and Itachi was not even fought during this mission. Yuta was indifferent to it, as he didn't care what some no-name cannon fodder thought about him.

After Koichi gave them the payment for the mission, he left. Right after that Hikari flickered away too, she seemed not in the mood to go to the restaurant as they usually do after missions.

"Hey Itachi, remember we talk about using sound in genjutsu?" Yuta asked, "I recently figure it out, let's go to the training grounds and I will show you how it works."

"Really? That would be great, let's go." Itachi replied excitedly.

'Well, he would figure it out on his own soon anyway, but it wouldn't hurt to teach him this now. Being able to teach genjutsu to Itachi is a huge achievement! Well, it was him anyway who taught me the basic theories and ideas how to use sound properly, so it's only right thing to do to pay him back, even if he doesn't remember about it in the first place, right?'

They went on the training grounds and Yuta quickly demonstrated and explained to Itachi the proper ways to use sound as genjutsu medium, Itachi learns it quickly, and they parted ways shortly after that.

Yuta went home, thinking about his future plans, he rethinks on his decision to resolve the situation with the Uchiha clan and push Itachi to become a clan leader and finds nothing wrong with that, as it will help him a lot in the future to get his hands on many jutsu, and Yuta didn't like the idea of letting Danzo to exterminate the Uchiha clan as he did in the original story.

As for what to do after that he doesn't have solid plans yet, only a few ideas, but it too early for it as Yuta needs to grow older and stronger to be able to make good moves anyway.

It was a little weird for Yuta to think about getting older after he spent more than twenty years in this world already, and almost thirty years in his previous life, but it is what it is, he has a body that not even eight yet…

'Hmm, I should wait a few years while doing physical training regularly to let my body grow, this young body is weak. I went through many years of training in time-loop, my ninjutsu, genjutsu, and fuinjutsu is on a relatively high level now, it can be said that I almost mastered two elements already even if I don't have a lot of jutsu for it, and my chakra grown a lot, it can be considered almost on a mid-Jonin level now, but my physical body is my biggest weakness now and I don't have means to fix this problem easily.

I should just progress in time for a few years into the future now, there is no point to jump back and forth in time anymore while my body is so young and weak…

But I only have five years to resolve the crisis with the Uchiha clan. The easiest way would probably be to convince Shisui to make a move on Danzo, and then somehow calm down the Uchiha coup supporters in the clan, and the sooner it's done the easier it will be to calm down Uchihas. Soon Itachi should become a close friend with Shisui, I will wait a little more before making my move.'

Yuta's shinobi life continues without many events, Yuta are doing his training and go on missions with his team, the missions is mostly a boring stuff with occasional fights with bandits, but that is hardly can be described as a fight, it was rather a slaughter.

One more time during the next few months Yuta's team fought against a few rogue shinobi, but they were even weaker than the first time that happened. They didn't stand even the slightest chance of surviving, as Koichi always orders his team to not underestimate enemies and prepare before the fight as much as possible.

And that was just that, Yuta and his team prepared a battlefield and set traps that can kill even a Jonin, and all of that was against two barely Chunin level rogue shinobi from a minor shinobi village…

Hikari was growing more and more impatient during missions, as there are no worthy opponents for her, and she deems missions boring and a waste of time.

Itachi was just doing his job diligently and didn't complain if it was too easy or not. Yuta was the same, just going through everything indifferently.

Months passed by and finally it was time for the next Chunin exams.

During this time Yuta gradually showed his ninjutsu skills primary fighting with fire release and using water release for defense, as for his genjutsu and fuinjutsu skills, he kept most of his progress in it hidden. Yuta wanted to keep his genjutsu a secret weapon as it works the best when the enemy didn't know about it. As for fuinjutsu Yuta knows how much village value fuinjutsu masters and he didn't want to be restricted because of it, as village higherups might decide to keep him in the village, and Yuta wants to continue venturing on missions to gain experience.

Hikari's skills with a sword grown as well during this time, and she also learned medical ninjutsu to some degree. She definitely has a talent for it, but to progress as a medical-nin it also requires to learn a lot of medical theory, and it seems that she didn't spend much time going through it, or maybe she does with her shadow clones, as she was taught the shadow clone jutsu by Koichi some time ago.

Itachi still hasn't activated his Sharingan yet, but his overall skills are growing smoothly and as of now Yuta is no longer confident that he could defeat Itachi in a fight as he was before, when he ended his time-loop training.

Koichi applied his team for the Chunin exams as he promised, the team was quickly approved by Hokage to participate in it and Konoha Chunin exams started.

There was nothing of interest so far, the first stage was almost the same as in the original story that will happen a decade after that, the first stage was a theoretical test with complicated questions and hidden fake participants in the class with the answers. Yuta just wrote the answers as it all was easy for him after he studied through the whole academy library back in the days.

Quickly finished answering questions Yuta observed the class, there were fifteen participants from Sunagakure, nine from Amegakure, and a squad from Kusagakure and Takigakure, the other ninety participants seem from Konoha.

'Seems like my squad is the youngest participants here, all the foreign participants seem older than sixteen, only among Konoha participants there some squads with the age around twelve-fourteen. My squad is definitely standing out here.'

Yuta looked at Hikari and saw that she was finishing her test as well.

'Hmm, she doesn't look like she learns a lot of theory stuff, she probably found a way to cheat…'

Yuta looked at Itachi and saw that Itachi had already finished his test. Yuta continued to observe other participants. He subtly activates his sensory technique to assess the amounts of chakra other participants have, and to memorize the chakra signatures and the people they belong to, just in case.

After sensing everyone's chakra Yuta was disappointed, as there was only half of the participants who had chakra amount equal or higher than low-Chunin level, and his squad has the far superior chakra level than everyone else.

'Seems like this Chunin exams will be easy and boring…' Yuta thought while observing the class.

When the time ran out there was no final question like in the story, as the current proctor is not Ibiki but some unfamiliar Jonin. After that, the papers with answers were collected and after an hour of waiting, the Jonin proctor returned to class and announced the squads that failed, asking them to immediately leave the classroom.

Yuta and his squad stayed. Among the foreigners only two squads from Sunagakure failed and one squad from Amegakure, everyone else is passed, among Konoha participants a third of them failed, and now it's only eighty-one participants left.

Then the proctor announced that the second stage of the exams will be held at the training grounds 44, and everyone should be there in an hour.

'Seems like there is nothing new here for me and the second stage will be the same as in the original story, seems like Konoha lacks creativity or is it some sort of a tradition to make exams the same way every time?'

[AN: Or maybe it's the author who lacks creativity and copied everything from the original story, who knows… But jokes aside, I just don't want to focus on the Chunin exam, and I just want to fast forward it and write about something more interesting. In the original story Itachi was going solo and aced the Chunin exam in an instant, and it would be the same here as well. Probably…

Thanks for the power stones! Thanks to everyone who left a review, we finally have a rating now!

I need a feedback on something. I currently focus on the MC's story and POV and don't write other scenes that is not involved MC directly, like HIruzen's meetings with Koichi, Danzo's cooking yet another scheme, other important characters in the background doing something, and other things like that. I do run in mind the things like that while writing my story though, even if I don't write it directly. But now I'm not sure if this is the good approach with the story, as some things might happen very abruptly with that while no one would see that coming. So guys, I'm asking for some feedback here, what you think I should do? Should I continue with current approach with mostly MC's point of view, or should I write more scenes without MC to make story more fluent and with less too-abrupt events?]
