Chapter 47 : Preliminary

It took another 3 days before the second test of the chunin exams was over. The majority of the genin who were present in the anime were present here as well. 

Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura from Team 7.

Hinata, Kiba and Shino from Team 8.

Rock Lee, Neji and Tenten from Team 9.

Shikamaru, Ino and Choji from Team 10.

Gaara, Temari and Kankuro from Sand Team.

But to others' surprise, none of the other teams made it. Three entire teams are missing outright. This was an issue, that could have been a bigger one if Hokage didn't know that Orochimaru was in the forest of death. 

But after knowing that, Hokage pushed all the blame on Orochimaru and moved on. Even a Konoha Team was missing. So he wanted to check it out, but there was nothing in the forest, not even clues about them. 

Ultimately they had to stop searching for that Konoha Team and went ahead with the Chunin Exams. 

Which Konoha team was missing by the way you ask? Hehehe.

Just like in the anime, Hiruzena Sarutobi came to announce the start of the preliminary round of the Chunin exams. 

Becuase of the uneven numbers of participants and there are so many of them, Hiruzen once again proposed the concept of a Preliminary round and Finals.

So to fix this, a total of 7 fights will take place today while one person automatically will be promoted to the finals. Who would that be ?

They will decide with a lottery. 

That was all the important things Shikamaru cared about, after that, he tuned out the old man. It was a drag to listen to his long lecture. 

Shikamaru has really worked hard in the past few days. Taking care of Orochimaru and then Kabuto. Saving both Karin and Sasuke. It was pretty exhausting for him. 

He didn't even get much time to nap and relax.

It took forever for the old man to just shut up, thanks to Hayate Gekko the young genins were spared. 

"Hello, I am the proctor of the preliminary round. I am Hayate Gekko. As Hokage sama said, the match pairing will be decided randomly. And one person will be prompted to the finals by default."

Now here is the Match Pairings.

1. Uzumaki Naruto Vs Kiba Inazuka.

2. Rock Lee Vs Kankuro of the Sand.

3. Gaara of the Sand Vs Sasuke.

4. Ino Yamanaka Vs Temari of the Sand.

5. Hinata Hyuga Vs Tenten.

6. Choji Akimichi Vs Shino Aburame.

7. Shikamaru Nara Vs Neji Hyuga.

Everyone after knowing the match pairing only glares at one single lucky Genin who got a free promotion to the finals. 

This was none other than one Sakura Haruno. 

'This is such a drag, if only this was me, I should have thought about this and rig the list somehow,' Shikamaru groaned with a little envy and irritation on his face.

The first match was between Naruto and Kiba. Might be the only match which is similar to Anime. 

"Uzumaki Naruto and Kiba Inzuka, come here," Proctor said.

"Yes, it's finally my chance," Naruto shouted. Kiba of course retorted.

Shikamaru on the other hand was wondering how this guys even got this kind of energy to quarrel between themselves. Too Troublesome!

"Shikamaru, who do you think will win," Ino leaned a little closer to him and asked with curiosity on her face.

Shikamaru on the other hand didn't even have to think, in the anime, Naruto won even after his chakra was messed up by Orochimaru and pretty much did not learn anything significant from Kakashi. 

Here he has not only full control of his chakra but even better control thanks to all the Chakra control training he made him do. He also has Rasengan in his sleeves so overall there is only one response to Ino's question.

"Naruto will win," Shikamaru said with full confidence. 

"Huh, that was quick, why are you so confident that he will win ?" Ino bright blue eyes shine with curiosity.

"Because he is strong, you will know soon," Shika didn't plan to explain much. There was no point on explaining anything here. Actions speak much louder than words.

Soon the match between both Kiba and Naruto started. Unlike in the anime, Naruto didn't charge ahead directly. He wouldn't have in the anime either but his chakra was all messed up.

Naruto usually makes clones before charging right into the fight after all. And here he also did the same. 

"Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu," Naruto shouted and 10 Naruto appeared out of nowhere. Kiba too was stronger here when compared to his anime counterpart, all thanks to Team 8 and Team 10 training together. 

But he had no idea how much Naruto had improved from the days he used to be a dead last of the class. 

Thinking quickly he took out his best move, nothing else was gonna help him here. Akamaru jumped up from Kiba's shoulder and ate the pill Kiba threw up.

Transforming into another Kiba, the duo was ready to perform their signature technique. 

"Fang Over Fang,"

And then both of them became a drill and attacked all the Naruto's around them. Naruto once again had to urge to use Rsengan, last time it was awesome but Shikamaru was looking and this might get him in trouble. He also promise Shikamaru not to use the technique if its not absolutely not necessary.
