Chapter 28 - Night of Terror

Time flowed by as the warm weather of summer came and went as it gradually became cooler as October came around. During which, Kagami became a part time doctor for Minato's Wife, Kushina as she moved along in her pregnancy. Much to his sighs as he ended up being taken by Minato a couple times during the night by Flying Thunder God as both got a minor scare.

"Is this your latest version of the serum?"

Currently in the laboratory, Mira is wearing a dark red shirt with a gray unzip jacket alongside dark colored pants with white bandages where her leg hostel for her tools was strapped. While up against the wall near the entrance was a large gunbai. All while she looked at a clear liquid before her as Kagami injected a tiny portion into a small mouse.

"I managed to boost the effects and removed most of the side effects in the last six versions, but I still haven't solved the shortening of the lifespan. I'm getting closer but it's more the body rejecting the serum than the serum itself that I discovered." Kagami answered.

"So serum and body are at war? Why don't you just do it in a series of injections instead?" Mira asked.

Kagami just gave a look like he had been, which just made Mira feel silly. Which was his entire goal as Kagami enjoyed teasing her. Since he finds her reaction amusing to watch and in rare turns blush.

"Basically what is happening is I'm trying to change the body's inner balance as well as change the part of the cells that we draw physical energy from to mold chakra." Kagami began to explain in depth, completely losing Mira in the process.

Once he finished his ten minute long monologue in which Mira couldn't understand most of it. Kagami was looking at the data before him as the early test results came out as his nanobots in the mouse were busy gathering data.

"So do you understand."

"Not really." Mira replied with zero hesitation.

"I figured." Kagami sighed. "Well, anyways it seems that I'm heading in the right direction. If these early results are to go by, I should be able to succeed in the next version or so."

"Cool. So when do you think Kushina will give birth?" Mira asked. "I kind of want to continue learning fuinjutsu from her."

Since she entered her later period of pregnancy, Kushina under the strong advice of the Third Hokage Wife, Biwako temporarily put a halt to teaching her. Since the less people know about her pregnancy, the safer it was. Since only a few know that Kushina is Kurama's current jinchuriki.

Those few that supposedly didn't include Mira nor Kagami, but who were they? Kagami was basically a half disciple of Minato and their doctor, while Mira was Kushina part time student. So not knowing Kushina being a jinchuriki was very slim to none.

"If nothing is wrong, it should be around the tenth." Kagami thought for a moment.

"So today?" Mira blinked in surprise.

Hearing that, Kagami froze as he thought it was the eighth or ninth. However, facts proved him wrong as a large boom echoed as very thick and heavy malice descended upon the village. Upon looking out the window a towering nine tails who was wreaking havoc in the distance could be seen.

"Grab your gear, we got to go." Kagami said as he flashed to his storage locker as Mira grabbed her gear by the door.

Then grabbing her shoulder, Kagami used the flying thunder god and took them closer to the battlefield. However, unknown to them, a figure in black came down from the ceiling wearing an animal mask swiping the vial and a few files before leaving.

Upon appearing near the center of the village, Kagami and Mira raced towards the Nine Tails. They could see explosions and hear the shouts as many shinobi young and old either got caught in the nine tails swipes or buildings crushing them. It was a brutal scene as arms and severed limbs laid about as both shinobi and civilians corpses littered the place as flames rose high into the sky.

Kagami frowned as he glanced at Mira who shared the same look. Both of them felt the same heart ache as not only at the destruction of the village, but the appearance of the nine tails. Since the appearance of the nine tails meant that something went wrong on Minato and Kushina's side.

'Can't believe I forgot the actual date.' Kagami was furious with himself.

While he doubted he could beat Obito at this time, he could at least slow him down. Since he was going to place down a few experimental fuinjutsu seals and kept Obito busy for a while. Which would allow Minato to lock Kushina seal and have time to rush over after both Naruto and Kushina were safe.

Jumping up onto the building, Kagami watched as the Nine Tails prepared to fire a large tailed beast bomb. Kagami reached out his hand as he called out to Mira.

"Mira, give me your gunbai."

Without much hesitation, Mira tossed him the large fan on her back. Grabbing the handle, Kagami at the same time threw a flying thunder god kunai towards the front of the nine tails. So in a streak of lightning, he appeared in front of the nine tails and swung the gunbai with all his strength as the large tail beast bomb was fired.

Feeling the immense force of the tailed beast bomb, Kagami used his chakra and strengthened his limbs. The gunbai heated up as part of the gunbai absorbed the beast bomb and attempted to reflect it. However, realizing he couldn't hold it, Kagami turned the gunbai and sent the tailed beast bomb into the sky where it exploded shortly after.

'Great, Mira is going to be annoyed at me.' Kagami thought simply as the gunbai had large cracks across it.

However, Kagami didn't continue thinking as he jumped away from the Nine Tails claws crashing down towards him. Thinking quickly, Kagami threw the damaged gunbai on his back and wrote a kanji on his palm before clapping them.

"Hokage-Style Sixty-Year-Old Technique — Kakuan Entering Society with Bliss-Bringing Hands."

Feeling most of his chakra draining as he casted this jutsu as half went into the jutsu and the other suppressed the outside energy from rioting in his body. Kagami had beads of sweat forming on his head as a large wooden hand shot out of the ground and pressed the Nine Tails down.

While it was far from stopping and completely suppressing the Kurama, Kagami felt the feedback as the jutsu funneled large amounts of chakra back to him. So his near empty chakra tanks were nearly refilled completely. Which he followed up with releasing another jutsu to continue locking down the nine tails.

"Wood Release: Gate of the Great God."

Massive red torii that fall down from above, as Kagami panted as his chakra vanished once again. Since this jutsu nearly took out all his chakra again even when he didn't use it completely. However, he managed to nail down eight of nine tails.

While winded, Kagami quickly jumped towards the nine tails and sealed a bit of his chakra into a scroll. All before saying something as he saw the nine tails eyes clear up and sanity returned as the illusion Obito casted on it went away.

"I'm sorry, but you're too strong to roam around freely at this time."

Kurama roared in anger, but despite struggling, it could only move one of its tails which kept attacking him. Jumping about as he dodge the tail, golden chains appeared around the tail before Kagami watched the fox vanish. Stomping the ground, Kagami felt Mira hand on his shoulder as she appeared next to him.

"It's just outside the village. Let's go."

Racing towards the location, Kagami and Mira hit a golden wall as they watched as Minato and Kushina were impaled by a large claw. Slamming the golden wall that blocked their way, Kagami was furious as he had the nine tails tied down. So despite his attempt at stopping this moment, it was for not as such a fate arrived.

Moments later the fox was sealed into baby Naruto and the golden seal broke. Racing towards Minato as Mira raced towards Kushina, they were joined by a few Anbu who were following Hiruzen.

"Minato, why did you move the location?" Kagami asked as Minato just grinned.

"You will make a great Hokage someday. Please watch over Kakashi and Naruto for me." Minato faintly said as his final breath left him.

Kagami smashed the ground as tears rolled off his cheeks as he felt Hiruzen's old hands on his shoulder. For the night sky began to rain as if mourning the loss of everyone who died.
