Chapter 92: Trap
"Tsk! Judging by the ashes,
they left not long ago," Shiga Taketake said, inspecting the extinguished
bonfire. Sparks still smoldered, with faint wisps of smoke rising.
But something feels off about this fire...
Shiga Taketake frowned, checking
again. It was an ordinary bonfire with no abnormalities. Judging by the flame's
extent, they had left recently.
"Looking at the footprints,
there should be three people. Whether it's Kanno's group or Taki Kiba's
group... Hmph! Leaving footprints, ignoring us, it must be Taki Kiba's
genius!" Kiuchi Taketo said, examining the ground.
Hyuga Yutaka activated his
Byakugan but found no trace of the three.
"They're not within my
Byakugan's range," Hyuga Yutaka said.
"Then what are you waiting
for? Let's catch up!" Kiuchi Taketo rushed out.
Hyuga Yutaka frowned but followed.
His resentment towards Kiba had lessened, but he still sensed something was
wrong. However, Kiuchi Taketo's actions made him push aside his doubts.
Sure enough, it was right to come here. Hurry up and
get ahead!
Originally, they planned to follow
the shortcut, but Shiga Taketake felt something was off. They checked the
bonfire to see who arrived first. Whether it was Kanno or Kiba, if it was
Kanno, they'd eliminate them; if it was Kiba, they'd move ahead.
After all, Kiba's group is difficult to deal with.
It's better to rush ahead than fight them.
This strategy aimed for a more
certain advantage. But unexpectedly, the place was empty, having the opposite
effect.
Damn! I shouldn't have mentioned the possibility of
a trap; now they're even more anxious!
Shiga Taketake had no choice but
to keep up. If something happened to them, he couldn't manage alone. Although
Shirakawa Izumi was strong, he was no match for these two.
However, the bad premonition in
his heart grew stronger.
Hurrying without rest... it's too unsafe!
Warning signs flashed in his mind,
but there was nothing he could do.
Time passed as they shuttled
through the dense forest. Hyuga Yutaka kept his Byakugan active, but despite
their speed, the wide vision showed no sign of the three ahead.
As time passed, Shiga Taketake's
heart sank. He felt tricked, eroding his reason.
I knew it! We shouldn't have come! It's a trap!
Regret surged uncontrollably.
Kiuchi Taketo kept glancing at
Hyuga Yutaka, expecting him to say, "I found them, they're right
ahead," but Hyuga Yutaka remained silent.
No! Why haven't we caught up yet!
This anxiety was shared by Hyuga
Yutaka and Kiuchi Taketo since seeing the smoke.
They continued until the crescent
moon sank into the western sky. The sky turned pale, and the rising sun coated
the forest with golden brilliance.
Hyuga Yutaka's mouth curled into a
smile. He had spotted the three ahead!
It's Kiba's group! Although I don't know how they
got so far ahead, they're standing in the open space outside the forest,
looking at the Tower of Death!
They had arrived but hadn't
entered the tower yet.
"What's wrong?" Kiuchi
Taketo asked quickly when he saw Hyuga Yutaka's smile.
"I found them. They're right
ahead. They haven't entered the Tower of Death yet. It looks like they're about
to enter," Hyuga Yutaka said.
Hearing this, Kiuchi Taketo was
overjoyed. He had waited too long for this moment! The patches of morning light
began seeping into his eyes as they were about to leave the forest.
But Shiga Taketake's heart skipped
a beat. The morning light, the suddenly bright scenery, and the high tower made
him nervous.
Why am I... a little scared?
Shiga Taketake's eyes widened in
astonishment.
"Accelerate!"
Before leaving the forest, Kiuchi
Taketo touched the ninja sword on his back, ready to strike the moment he found
his target. His swift attack would deal with these so-called geniuses!
Kiuchi Taketo rushed out
impatiently, and Hyuga Yutaka followed immediately.
Zing! There was the sound of a slender thread being pulled.
Kiuchi Taketo looked down in
disbelief.
Hyuga Yutaka glanced at Kiuchi
Taketo, who was just ahead and saw the same astonishment in his eyes.
The panic in Shiga Taketake's eyes
erupted completely.
A thin wire caught on Kiuchi
Taketo's foot, and he pulled it!
Boom!
At the forest's edge, near the
towering tower, an explosion erupted. Sawdust and branches scattered, and black
smoke floated into the air.
Tens of meters from the explosion,
three seven-year-old children suddenly turned their heads.
"They're so anxious they
didn't see the trap," Kiba, the middle child, said, touching his chin and
smiling.
"Who do you think came?"
Kiba turned to Hirohiko, who was also looking at the explosion's flames and
smoke.
"Shiga," Hirohiko said
simply.
Yukina looked at the flames and
smoke worriedly, as well as the scattered wood and leaves.
"Don't worry, we controlled
the number and power of the explosive tags. They'll only be incapacitated, not
killed," Kiba patted Yukina's shoulder.
Yukina... probably worried about Hyuga Yutaka.
Although they don't talk much, the bond between siblings must be strong.
Kiba looked at the flames and
smoke, thinking.
The final test has essentially ended. Though they're
strong, they're not at Kakashi's level. If Kakashi were here, he'd see through
these tricks!
