Chapter 84: Additional Rules
After hearing Orochimaru's rules,
Kiba breathed a sigh of relief but then frowned as he looked at the composition
of the other teams.
Kiuchi Taketo, Shiga Taketake, and Hyuga Yutaka...
all in one group? This is really... a headache!
The other two groups were also
quite strong, but compared to this trio, they were a step behind. Initially,
Kiuchi Taketo and Shiga Taketake were the objects of Kiba's concern. Although
Hyuga Yutaka was annoying, his strength was undeniable. Kiba, having fought
against him, knew that Yutaka alone could almost incapacitate half of the other
two teams.
If this group is our opponent, the difficulty of the
final test will be greatly increased.
"Now, let the captains you
chose come forward to draw lots and decide the offensive and defensive
sides," Orochimaru said, glancing at everyone, quite satisfied with their
reactions.
After hearing the rules, no one
was surprised and quickly determined their teams and selected captains.
Three of the four teams quickly
sent out their captains.
Kiba paused, then noticed Hirohiko
and Yukina looking at him. It was clear they had chosen him as their captain.
That's strange. These two always want to compete
with me, yet they easily made me the captain.
He stepped forward to draw lots.
There was no need to actually draw
lots, as the other three captains had already drawn, leaving only the last one.
Orochimaru watched Kiba with a
smile.
Taki Kiba, though I don't know where he learned the
Eight Gates technique, at his age, opening the Wound Gate is unprecedented.
Such a talented child.
Before Kiba had time to look at
his lot, he felt a chill down his spine and subconsciously glanced at
Orochimaru, who was smiling at him.
This version of Orochimaru... hasn't started human
experiments yet, right?
Kiba sensed Orochimaru's interest
in him, feeling uneasy.
Oh no! Because Orochimaru was redeemed later, I
forgot he's a body-hunting pervert. Could he be interested in my body? I don't
have Sasuke's Sharingan to counter him. I'm far from his level now. No, no, he
shouldn't have started human experiments yet...
Warning signs filled Kiba's mind.
He took a step back and saw doubt flash in Orochimaru's eyes.
What did he see?
This is bad. He must have seen the fear in my eyes.
Kiba hurriedly lowered his head,
pretending to look at the lot. It had the word "Shou" on it,
indicating defense.
Is this child warning me? Why? Orochimaru pondered.
"Lord Orochimaru, I am the
defender," Kiba announced, showing the lot to Orochimaru.
Was it an illusion? Orochimaru wondered, seeing Kiba's clear eyes devoid
of fear.
"Lord Orochimaru, I am also a
defender," another captain handed over their lot.
Hearing this, Kiba frowned
slightly, glancing at Shiga Taketake beside him.
So, their group is the attacker... and Hyuga Yutaka
chose Shiga Taketake as the captain? This is getting tricky!
Kiba returned to his team, eyes
flashing. He suddenly said to Hirohiko in a neutral voice, "Hirohiko,
don't you think Lord Orochimaru is a bit... snake-like? I'm most afraid of
snakes. I was startled when I got close just now!"
Hirohiko was taken aback by Kiba's
nonsensical words but replied, "I'm afraid too."
"I'm also the most
afraid," Yukina added, peeking out from behind. "Lord Orochimaru, you
give me the creeps."
As the captains handed over their
lots, Kiba's words came.
So, he was just scared... But am I really that
scary? Orochimaru
thought, his mouth twitching visibly.
Kiba, seeing Orochimaru's
expression, thought, I should be able to get away with this. Orochimaru doesn't know I'm a
time traveler and aware of his future. He's probably just puzzled.
The others glanced over, even the
returning captains froze momentarily, sweating slightly.
This guy is too bold, daring to discuss Lord
Orochimaru like that!
"The offensive and defensive
sides have been decided. Next, an additional rule: calculate the points from
the last experiment. Add up the points of each group, then go over there to buy
the corresponding map. The defenders will enter the forest first, followed by
the attackers after ten minutes. I will place the secret scrolls in the tower
of death," Orochimaru explained, pointing to a booth. Then, he and the
scrolls disappeared into white mist.
A Shadow Clone? Buy a map? We have to go through the
forest to reach the tower of death? Kiba thought, touching his chin.
This will be a difficult test.
The others looked puzzled.
"Hey, don't we go directly to
the defense point?"
"Yeah, do we still have to
rush over?"
"This is too uneconomical for
us defenders!"
The other group on the defensive
side voiced their complaints.
The attackers remained calm and
walked to the booth supported by two Konoha Chunin.
"Let's go and have a look
too," Kiba said to Hirohiko and Yukina. They seemed to be wondering about
the additional rules and followed him.
"Kiba... this
experiment..." Hirohiko and Yukina said solemnly.
"Yeah, I know," Kiba
responded seriously.
The previous point system is still useful. These
points are an advantage based on correct judgment, strategy, and tactics. This
additional rule rewards correct tactics and strategies.
Kiba looked at the four scrolls on
the Chunin's table, the maps Orochimaru mentioned.
The prices were marked clearly:
the lowest was two points, then four points, six points, and finally twelve
points.
On Kiba's side, Hirohiko's
resurrection counted as zero points, and Yukina's consumption of three points
also resulted in zero points. Kiba had won two games, and there was a tie with
Hyuga Yutaka. How many points did they have?
"You have two points,"
one of the Chunin answered, seeing Kiba's doubts.
That round didn't seem to count
for deductions or bonuses.
"Then, I'll buy the cheapest
map," Kiba said, picking up the two-point scroll.
The Chunin nodded.
At that moment, Shiga Taketake's
voice came, "I'll buy a map with six points."
Six points? Kiba was startled. Everyone looked at Shiga Taketake.
Indeed, Kiuchi Kento had two
points, Taketake Shiga had two points, and Hyuga Yutaka had at least two
points. No one could afford the twelve-point scroll unless they won all three
games with nominations. But with six points, they could afford it.
Kiba tightened his grip on the
scroll.
They have a six-point map, and we have a two-point
map. What's the difference? The attackers have an absolute advantage in this
experiment!
