Team Formation

Rei calmed himself down behind the close doors.

The moment the man had appeared behind him, Rei's heart almost skipped a beat. He hadn't noticed the man's presence until he was right behind him, it worried Rei that he was caught off-guard so easily, if the man had any bad intentions towards him he wouldn't even be able to resist.

"I really need to improve my senses as soon as possible, it would be really stupid of me I if let such an incident happen again." Rei decided he needed to improve his sensing capabilities if he didn't want to be caught unaware again.

Taking a big breath Rei calmed himself as he cleaned up and changed into new sets of clothes and made his way towards the Hokage's office.

Having already been informed that he would be coming here the guards around the Hokage office led him to the upper floor of the building where the Hokage's office was.

"Rei Kurama you can come inside."

As soon as he reached the door an old and sturdy voice asked him to enter knowing that he was already here.

As he entered inside Rei was surprised to see a few familiar faces standing in front of the Hokage, he could now guess as to why he was called here.

Rei looked at Minato who smiled and nodded at him then at Kakashi.

Rei smiled as he looked at Kakashi who now had a ninja headband on him who smiled towards him beneath his mask in return.

"Ahem!"

The third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi cleared his throat to grab their attention as he clearly noticed their exchange.

"Rei Kurama and Kakashi Hatake you might be a little confused as to why you both are called here, so let me explain."

He smiled gently and looked at both the kids standing side by side, satisfied that he now had their attention he continued speaking.

"You too are the youngest graduates of Konoha's ninja academy and hence are the future of our village who carry the will of fire. With your future in mind and to make sure that your potential is not wasted I have decided to assign you a Jonin teacher for guidance, he is Minato Namikaze, though you might already be very familiar with him."

'Is this old man spying even on little kids.'

Rei nodded as he thought that was most likely the reason Hiruzen knew about them.

"Since there are no other Genin available to team up with you right now, two of you will form a temporary two man squad to do low level missions with Minato in charge. Do you two have any problems with it?"

Hiruzen asked as he looked at both of them.

Both Rei and Kakashi shook their heads as they knew that the choice was already made for them, but it's not like they had any problems with this arrangement to begin with since they already knew each other. Even Kakashi had sometimes met Minato while he was with Rei and knew Minato was someone who Rei respected.

Hiruzen nodded his head in satisfaction.

"It is decided then, you three will be a part of the new team 7 from now on."

The two kids left as Hiruzen asked them to head out since he had something to discuss with Minato.

As the door closed on them the smiles vanished from Hiruzen's and Minato's faces.

"Minato I think you already know the reason why I am assigning you as their instructor."

Hiruzen looked at Minato who nodded his head with a serious expression on his face.

"Is it because of the war?" but he still asked for confirmation.

"Although I don't like it myself we have to prepare for the worst, also I don't think anyone is more qualified than you to teach these two geniuses." Hiruzen said as he looked at Minato, he believed that Minato would be the best choice to bring out the full potential of these kids now that Jiraya and the other Sanin were not available.

"I will do my best lord third."

Minato bent one knee to show his respects to the Hokage and left the office soon after.
