Ino's face was crimson, her gaze turned elsewhere, her eyes shimmering with water, looking embarrassed.
"I moved, I came to see you." Naruto handed Ino a gift bag. "Were you okay that day?"
"I'm fine," Ino's face turned even redder.
When Naruto mentioned that day, scenes of the lace lingerie being lifted by the knife continuously flashed in her mind, and she remembered the sensation of being embraced.
Her heart seemed to crawl with ants, feeling sour, bitter, and itchy.
She lowered her head, took the bag, and mumbled. But soon, she raised her head as if recalling something and asked,
"Do you want to come in and sit down?"
"My father and mother aren't here."
"Not here?" Naruto showed a puzzled expression.
Ino immediately realized the ambiguity in her words, becoming flustered. Her pupils dilated, and her face turned completely red.
"I... I mean…"
"Oh~" Naruto nodded.
"Aaaah!!! You don't know anything! Don't pretend you understand! Take back that 'oh'!"
Ino exploded in anger, grabbing Naruto and pulling him inside the store.
"Please wait a moment."
The female customer had already left, and Ino quickly hurried upstairs with the gift bag. Naruto could only sit there bored, looking around at the flowers.
To be honest, he didn't know many kinds of flowers—he only knew that this one was probably a rose, and that one was a white rose. Seeing a yellow and white flower, Naruto immediately gave up on thinking.
After a while, he heard sounds of something creaking upstairs, and then Ino's footsteps coming down.
She was holding two cups of hot drinks, seemingly cocoa that had been brewed.
From far away, Naruto could already smell the bitter aroma. He didn't particularly like cocoa, but if Ino brewed it, he could just about tolerate it.
"Where did you move to?"
"Building 404 on Konoha Street," Naruto put the cup down, frowning slightly.
Ino's face immediately dropped, and she pouted, saying,
"If you don't like it, I'll pour it out."
"I'll drink it with gratitude," Naruto said firmly.
"There's no need to exaggerate." Ino cleared her throat, and the redness on her face faded. "I really like the gift you gave me, thank you."
Noticing that Naruto hadn't responded, Ino looked over curiously, only to find that he was staring at her legs, completely dazed, which made her fume with anger.
"You jerk!!!"
"Sorry, sorry! Don't… pinch me!" Naruto hastily begged for mercy.
After a long pause, Ino finally let go of him.
Naruto, with a sincere expression, apologized,
"Sorry, Ino."
Looking at this guy, who was good at apologizing and doing so more sincerely than anyone else, Ino helplessly rubbed her forehead, then kicked Naruto in the chest without putting much force into it, just to knock him over.
Her naturally firm thigh tensed, and a layer of ominous gloom covered her eyes.
"Go die, you jerk who doesn't deserve to live in this world."
"Sorry," Naruto said with guilt.
"You, stop apologizing with that expression of enjoyment! Pervert!!"
Ino was about to go crazy. She sat back in her seat, holding the cocoa, with a layer of mist rising on the sides of the cup. The steam made her face hot, and her gaze started to wander.
This guy always said strange things. Though she couldn't say she disliked him, she certainly couldn't say she liked him either.
"Ino." Naruto stood up, holding his coffee and looking out the window.
"Do you remember what you promised me?"
"Sorry, I forgot," Ino froze for a moment, then calmly got up and was about to go upstairs.
"Liars must swallow a thousand needles."
Ino stopped on the first step, biting her lip as she looked at Naruto. He smiled and took a sip of cocoa, then said in a most annoying tone,
"I was just saying it casually."
Ino clenched her fist and gritted her teeth, then muttered, "Just wear it, wear it."
After saying that, she quickly stomped upstairs. The noise made Naruto suspect that she was going upstairs to get a knife.
This time, it took a long while, so long that Naruto thought Ino might have fallen asleep upstairs.
Moving was tiring in the afternoon, and the few sips of cocoa didn't help alleviate any fatigue, and his head started to become clouded.
He thought of Jiraiya and then of the late Third Hokage.
Tsunade was probably going to succeed as the Fifth Hokage, and Jiraiya would probably come to find him soon. As long as he didn't accept the destiny of being the Child of Prophecy...
Naruto's eyelids grew heavy, his mind flashing with images of Itachi Uchiha's calm, terrifying face, Kisame, Orochimaru.
The Nine-Tails' face, Sasuke Uchiha's face.
"Naruto, Naruto," Ino's voice came from nearby, followed by a shake, "Seriously, Naruto, how can you fall asleep at a time like this?"
"Sorry." Naruto lifted his head from the desk, seeing Ino in a maid outfit.
"Look, look! After you look, I'm changing! Pervert!" Ino's face was red, and she looked unwilling, glaring at Naruto with an expression of disgust.
In the dazed haze, Naruto stared at Ino, who was in a maid outfit, for a long while.
Her golden hair draped over her shoulders, with two cat ears on her head. There was an indescribable look of shame on Ino's face, and her fluffy and wide maid collar was tied with a red ribbon.
Her entire arm was covered in tight, black sleeves, revealing only a pair of fair hands.
Her chest was slightly raised, and her waist was in a fitted style.
The large lace skirt only covered her long, pale thighs, and white thigh-high stockings connected to the stockings all the way up to the skirt's edge.
Ino's reluctant expression seemed almost sacred. Her eyes narrowed as she looked down on Naruto with disdain.
"Thanks for the hospitality."
"Don't say such weird things!" Ino grabbed Naruto's clothes, getting very close to him, biting her teeth as she threatened,
"Naruto, stop being a pervert!"
Just as Naruto was about to apologize, he heard a noise from the door.
"Ino, you can't be rude to the customer..."
With the sound of a wind chime, the door opened from the outside, and a middle-aged couple stood at the door, stunned as they stared at Ino and Naruto.
The words that Ino's mother, Yamanaka Riko, was about to say caught in her throat, her pupils slightly widening as she looked at her daughter dressed in a maid outfit, gripping the collar of a young boy.
The couple had clearly just finished shopping, with Yamanaka Ishi carrying bags of items. They paused, then silently turned their gazes elsewhere.
"Father, Mother??" Ino was instantly petrified.
...
The night wind howled. On top of the Hokage Rock, Jiraiya, one of the Three Ninjas, stared silently at the night view of Konoha. Standing beside him were two elderly advisors, Tenkai Komurasaki and Mito Gate En.
"Jiraiya, we need the Fifth Hokage."
"What does that have to do with me?" Jiraiya replied without turning around, his face unusually serious.
"Yesterday, the Daimyo of the Fire Country arrived in Konoha. In an urgent meeting with the higher-ups, we decided to elect you as the Fifth Hokage."
"Jiraiya."
"The village needs a strong leader, and this is our decision."
"I've always been carefree, and I'm not cut out for sitting in the Hokage building," Jiraiya rejected directly. "Tsunade is much more suitable to become Hokage than I am."
