"My name is Tetsuo Hyuga, my favourite food is Xiao long bao, it's a type of dumpling filled with a light soup traditionally made with pork. It's traditional, light and technique oriented in making and perhaps the only food that I know how to make myself… not that I'm too great at making it at least just yet," I decided to say for my name and favourite food.
I got a small nod from my new Sensei before continuing.
"Though I've not played it in front of many people if anyone at all, my favourite thing to do is playing the Koto, I've always found playing the Koto a great comfort. Originally I learned it from my mother… It's one of the few skills I learned before I could use my byakugan properly. As a tradition, to this day I have never used my byakugan whilst playing," I say while observing my teammates and my sensei's reaction. My sensei was looking at me attentively and for my teammates, Aya seemed to be paying attention and I could tell that Hitoshi didn't really care because we were friends and he already knew some of this stuff but was trying to look like he was listening to be polite.
'This may come off as a lot for a first meeting but it's most likely within my best interest to be honest with my Sensei and team.'
"My dream for the future is to bring change to the Hyuga. They are blinded by tradition and pride, so I must become strong… strong enough for them to listen. The Hyuga will never get any stronger if we continue to stay stagnant. Innovation is what we truly need… I wish to bring innovation to the Hyuga."
Everyone seemed relatively surprised by what I had just said, Hanto Sensei the least and Aya the most, Hanto Sensei the least because he's a jonin and probably knows of some of the Hyuga's ways and the elders distaste of me, and Aya the most because she is also a 'clan kid' as the civilians call us and knows of how powerful my clan is and the size of my goal.
"That was interesting, a good introduction and a large goal, slightly more detailed than I expected but good none the less," Hanto Sensei said with a small smile.
"Now you can go next," Hanto Sensei said whilst pointing to Aya.
"My name is Aya Yamanaka, my favourite food is steamed fish, my favourite thing to do is to read about my clan's history and my dream for the future is to become a jonin," Aya said.
Hanto Sensei nodded. "Aya that is another good introduction and a worthy goal. Now last but not least you," Hanto Sensei looked at Hitoshi.
"My name is Hitoshi Kurosaki, my favourite food is dango, specifically Zunda dango because I like edamame, my favourite thing to do is hang out with my friends and my dream for the future is to be a great ninja," Hitoshi said finishing off our introductions.
"Nice, another good goal, now I suppose it wouldn't be fair if you guys introduced yourselves and I didn't do it so I'll go now."
"My name is Ichiro Hanto, my favourite food is beef filled onigiri, my favourite thing to do is help out around the village and my dream for the future is to transform you into fine Shinobi of the leaf."
'Interesting, he seems to have a lot of loyalty for the village since his favourite thing to do is help out and he wants to make us fine Shinobi of the leaf so he probably cares a lot about the village and its people, so I guess I can consider myself lucky that I have a Sensei who who would actually care enough about the team to protect us,' I observe
"Now that we're all introduced there is something we must discuss," Hanto Sensei said with a rather serious look on his face.
I listen in more carefully because of the change in his tone and facial expressions.
"You three are technically not genin as of yet."
All of our eyes widened in sync almost comically as we truly registered what he had just said.
"What's that supposed to mean Hanto Sensei? We all passed the genin exams. Unless there's a hidden rank below genin then this does not make a lot of sense to me," Hitoshi asked in a confused manner, voicing the question that we were all wondering.
"Well Hitoshi-San, usually there is a hidden second genin test administered by each teams jonin Sensei," Hanto Sensei paused for a moment to take a bite of some barbecue beef ribs.
"A second test! That's not fair at all, I spent weeks studying and preparing for the genin exams, we should've been told about the second test as well so we could prepare," This outburst came from who I was surprised to see was Aya since it was the only thing she said besides her introduction.
Hanto Sensei gradually became more and more visibly annoyed with what Aya was saying but he allowed her to finish speaking.
"First of all you interrupted me before I could finish speaking," Hanto Sensei began. "Secondly the tests are designed by the Jonin Senseis and aren't a standardised system so they are impossible to study for."
"And thirdly," Hanto Sensei's voice raised slightly, "Which is what I was going to say, I wasn't originally planning on giving you a test but since you seem so fond of tests I'll give you one, which you have a day to prepare for."
Aya paled significantly under Hanto Sensei's glare, and ended up receiving a not so friendly gaze from Hitoshi once Hanto Sensei had finished.
'Is she a fool or something? How is this her chosen hill to die on? A hidden test which she knows nothing about, not how hard it is, not what type of test, or if we could even fail. For all we knew this was a physical test that would let our Sensei have a better grip on our abilities. Now because of her stupid outburst we have to undergo this test which from Hanto Sensei's tone of voice is the worst case scenario, a situation in which we could not become ninja if we fail.' I thought, annoyed at Aya's blatant stupidity.
"The test will be a three way brawl where I will see your abilities the person who impressed me the least will be sent back to the academy while The other two will continue under my tutelage," Hanto Sensei finished letting us all realise what just happened.
I don't believe that Aya could have gone any more pale than right in that moment there because she truly looked like a sheet of paper.
'Hanto Sensei must truly be annoyed at Aya to design a test where she is guaranteed to fail, after all me and Hitoshi are friends so we are likely to work together, Aya is a yamanaka a clan who are known for their long distance mind jutsu that requires someone else to be there to protect their body it also means they spend a lot less time on taijutsu and her taijutsu scores in the academy were worse than both mine and Hitoshi's meaning she has less than zero chance of success,' I contemplate realising how stacked against Aya this test truly is.
Aya opens her mouth to speak likely to try and dig herself out of the hole she's in but before she could say anything Hanto Sensei was already speaking.
"That's all we really need to speak about for today. Meet me here tomorrow at ten in the morning sharp and make sure to prepare yourselves well since this will decide whether or not you get to begin your ninja career tomorrow," Hanto Sensei picks up one gyoza before using shunshin to speed away leaving Aya who is on the brink of tears, Hitoshi and I are both far better off because the two of us both realise the test will not do anything to us but let us show off to our future Sensei.
'Hmm, what should I do now? I could go to Hitoshi and make sure that we're on the same page about working together or I could try and work out a way to help Aya prove herself enough so that all three of us make the team, or I could just try to show them both up to look better in the eyes of Hanto Sensei, what should I do.'
