Chapter 17

'Who is that?....' I wondered as I looked at the man who just arrived out of nowhere.

He was standing there looking at me and my surroundings as if evaluating my condition.

I looked at the outfit he was wearing, it was very similar to the previous ninja.

'.....Maybe he is one of them too' I tried to figure out. 'Maybe he got to know about this location because of the blast I made just now….Yeah, it was really a reckless decision on my part.'

Before I could figure out what should I do next, the man unsheathed his short sword from his back and dashed towards me.

He was fast…much faster than the previous man. I could sense that he was aiming to slice my head off with a single blow.

'Shit I can't avoid it…' As I had almost given up, something happened.

I felt a special type of chakra flowing from my brain to my optic nerves as my vision changed. Suddenly, I could clearly see his movements from a 3d viewpoint.

'It's the same as before.' I muttered in my thought. The exact same thing which happened with the previous man was repeating itself. But I didn't have the luxury to take time and figure out what was happening, as he was already in front of me.

As the sword approached my neck, I swiftly avoided it by sliding away.

I could see the clear shock in his eyes as if he couldn't believe what he just saw. His expression was kind of similar to the last man's.

Haa- Haa-

I took deep breaths. I have not yet done a full recovery from the last encounter. My entire body was hurting like crazy. It put a lot of strain on my right hand a while ago as I carried Kaya's body. It is almost unusable now.

"Well, I had my doubts…..but it looks like you are the one who killed him," The man said while pointing at the corpse of the fallen ninja.

"And…" He continued as his frown deepened, there was an un-hidden fear showing on his face. "I never thought I would encounter someone with those eyes here of all places"

'...What the hell is he saying?' I frowned at him. I couldn't understand what he meant by that.

Maybe he sensed my confusion as he went silent for some moment. what I should do now. Should I attack him? I glanced at the side where the axe was. It was a little away from me. If…if I could reach that….

".….Tell me, kid," The man spoke again, "why were you in a remote border village instead of Konoha?.... I heard that you 'Uchiha's are very prideful in your nobility…. Why would you live in such remote villages."

Hearing him, my eyes widened. 'What!? Uchiha?? What does he mean by that?... Don't tell me,..maybe…eyes and the power I just felt was because of-' before I could sort out my thoughts he attacked me. He was most probably trying to distract my focus, and I fell right into his trap.

I couldn't properly predict his movements because of the distraction, I tried to avoid his attack again, and I pushed myself to move with all my strength.

But….

'Wha-' I felt a chill on my right arm. There was something wrong…. Suddenly that chill turned into a burning sensation, then gradually to another feeling, a very horrendous feeling…

Pain….Unimaginable pain….

"AHHHGGRRHHH!!!!!!" I let out a disturbingly loud scream. I understood what happened. My right hand was not there anymore, blood was gushing out like crazy. My entire body was covered in sweat. My eyes became watery, vision sightly blur.

'Sh*t! sh*t!....' I cursed in my mind.

"Looks like I missed it again….It's really a headache to deal with people from your clan. Even as a Chunnin I can't properly land a lethal blow on you." The man said, seemingly dissatisfied with the result.

He didn't wait for my reaction as he dashed again, the pain made my head extremely dizzy. And not having enough time to recover, I couldn't see his movements. He immediately appeared in front of me again and thrust his sword at my abdomen.

I could just stand there exhausted and helplessly see the sword pierce my stomach.

"HURGH!!" I coughed out blood.

I knelled down as my legs gave up.

A burning pain engrossed me. I glanced one last time at the man who pierced my stomach directly in the eyes as my mind became bland…..my thoughts stopped as my body slumped to the ground.

I looked at the fallen kid.

His breathing had stopped. I could see he is dead.

I sheathed my sword back after cleaning off the blood.

"Who would have thought I would encounter an Uchiha here? Thank goodness he was just a child, if it was an adult I would have been dead for sure."

I thought. I don't feel remorse for killing small kids at all. As shinobis, we are taught to never be emotional. Every sacrifice is worth it if it fulfills the greater goal.

"I have to report this incident to my Jounin leader, but first…" I shifted my head to where Katsura's body lay. "I have to take his corpse with me."

I turned to walk toward his body. But came to a halt suddenly,

Feeling something was not right, I hurriedly glanced back, only to widen my eyes in shock.

"Where….." The body was not there.

The body of the kid I just killed was not there.

I flustered, "B-but just a moment ago-" but before I could finish my sentence, I filled something stuck in my neck.

'Wha-' I looked behind me to see the kid standing there, his one hand was severed, and a cut through his abdomen. His clothes were all bloody and muddy. He was breathing heavily.

But…

But, his eyes were glowing bloody red with two tomoes shining in the middle of each eye.

'Shit why-' before I could ask why he was still alive, my senses started giving up…..

I could feel my breathing coming to a halt and a strong pain in my neck. I put my hand on my neck to see a kunai strike there, piercing through my neck.

'When…' But nobody gave me the answer as my body fell to the ground.

Haaa- Haaa- Haaaa-

"It's over…" I said. As the last bit of strength left my body.

I used a genjutsu on him when I looked into his eyes. He thought I was dead and became careless...I had a kunai which I took from the previous man.

"haha….Damn..who would have thought I had sharingan huh…." I chuckled. I never knew how to use genjutsu, it just occurred to me instinctively.

I slumped on the ground. I could feel my chakra was empty and I had no strength left.

"Ha ha….who cares… it's over….it's all over…." a feeling of sadness overwhelmed me.

I can feel my injuries are grave, there is no one to treat them.

"I will die again huh…." I said,

"Damn it….this life too….in vain…"

Frustration…

I could feel my consciousness drifting away, similar to last time, all the memories came back to my mind.

"I don't want to die again…" I said, tears forming in my eyes,

'Another chance….if I could get another chance…..I would..'

Everything became blurry…My senses slowly fade…
