9 Chapter 9: Danzo's Arch- Nemesis

Danzo was detailing his root shinobi about their mission to assassinate Hiruzen when he was on his way to the land of Fire Damiyo to reinstate himself as the Hokage.

"We don't need a weak leader. You need to complete the mission for the betterment and safety of Konoha. Remember to make it look like it was done by the rogue nin. Understood?"

All the ten root operatives at the same time said "Yes Sir!"

---- The Next Day----

Danzo was sitting on the Hokage seat waiting for news of Hiruzen's death. Suddenly the door to the office opened and out walked Hiruzen.

"I regret to inform you that I would not be giving up that seat just yet," Hiruzen said

Danzo had cold sweat running down his neck as soon as he saw Hiruzen alive.

"It seems you want to ask me how I am still alive?" Hiruzen said sarcastically

"Of course not. I just thought that you left this morning for the feudal lord's prefecture so I was doing some paperwork of yours to help you." Danzo said

"Is that so?" Hiruzen asked and before he could say anything Ken walked into the Hokage office.

"Grandpa, I heard that you were attacked by rogue nin. Are you fine? Are you injured?" Ken asked

"Haha, Your grandpa is not called the God of shinobi for nothing. I am fine." Hiruzen said with a laugh.

"So what happened to the ones that attacked you?" Ken asked him

"Oh, I and Grandpa Danzo were deciding just that. I was thinking about letting them go just this once as long as they work for the betterment of Konoha from now on." Hiruzen said while giving a glance to Danzo.

While Danzo showed a troubled expression on the outside, inwardly he was laughing at his naivety of Hiruzen.

'Your naive ideas about peace would surely be your undoing in the future Hiruzen.' Danzo thought

"Grandpa that's great we should always be forgiving. Everyone makes a mistake. But I have a better idea." Ken said with a child-like smile but Danzo suddenly felt a bad premonition.

"You should hire these ninjas yourself and make sure that they do the job of protecting leaf properly. This would also solve the lack of manpower you keep complaining about." Danzo suddenly found Ken's smile looked like the devil's smile.

"That's a good idea, Ken. You should go back to your training. Grandpa would join you when he is a little free." Hiruzen said

Ken nodded as he left while trying to hide his evil smile.

When Hiruzen told him that he was going to the fire lord to reinstate himself as the Hokage, Ken saw through his recently acquired previous life memories and knew that Danzo would try to assassinate Hiruzen but Hiruzen would know about the attack and confront Danzo and he then would forgive him for some weird stupid reason.

Now as a four-year-old, he could not just outright say to his grandpa to kick Danzo's ass out of Konoha if not to hell. Also, he knew his naive grandpa would surely not make any rash decisions against his dear friend, so he settled for the next best thing- Danzo's subordinates.

'Take that Danzo. Surely this would be a big loss for you. Hmmph, Trying to assassinate my grandpa, let's see now how would you cry when you lose your manpower. I am pretty sure that Grandpa would not take all his manpower. But even a few shinobi would make Danzo feel pain.' Ken thought

Ken felt Danzo was an idiot before Shippuden began as he sent only ten shinobi to assassinate Hiruzen.

Hiruzen was still in his late 50s so he was still in his prime compared to when Orochimaru attacked Konoha as he was in his seventies at that time.

Prime Hiruzen is a beast. Right now, He is not as old as when he was during the Konoha crush plan.

It was stated in the manga that he was the strongest of all kage in his prime which included Hashirama, Tobirama, and Minato. Ken believed that it was exaggerated but there sgould be reason why it was said that.

Even in his old age, he was said to be stronger than the fourth Raikage A, Onoki, Rasa, and Yagura.

He is said to have mastered every technique that is in Konoha apart from some of the fuinjutsu techniques and those that use a kekkei genkai.

Thus, he has not only mastered all the five chakra natures along with yin and yang release, but he has mastered the akimchi expansion technique, Yamanaka mind jutsus, Nara's shadow possession, and other jutsus. He has also mastered the Hyuga's gentle fist among other fighting styles inside Konoha.

He could even correctly guess the jutsu used by his enemy by just seeing the hand signs.

That was how strong Hiruzen was right now and that is why no village had taken advantage of the nine tails attack to attack the leaf. It was all because of Hiruzen's presence.

After Ken left, Hiruzen looked at Danzo.

"Surely, You would not be taking the advice of a four-year-old kid."

"I am considering it. The village could take some extra ANBUs." Hiruzen said

Danzo although showed an annoyed expression on the outside. Inside he was scheming 'I could use this to plant spies in Hiruzen's Anbu unit.'

Hiruzen was a Hokage for almost three decades, trying to deceive him was not going to be easy for Danzo.

"I would be selecting the shinobi myself. Their cursed seal would be removed and they would have to go to a therapy session with a yamanaka. Root Anbu is not suited to being a normal Anbu. Thus, it is all necessary." Hiruzen said

This was the first time for Danzo to see Hiruzen giving him setbacks after setbacks. Danzo gritted his teeth as he walked out of the room with gritted teeth.

Hiruzen watched his friend's back and thought 'What drives you so much, Danzo?'
