Chapter 22 : Hunted Hogs

Later in the night

*smear*

Ren had smeared himself with crushed local plants and used a scent eraser jutsu to properly hide his scent.

He didn't worry much about being noticed through sight as Hogs are naturally nearsighted.

With that in mind, Ren ventured into the forest at night, with Itachi close behind him to monitor him.

Soon arriving at the previous place he had found them, There were many hoof prints due to the massive size of the hogs they were deeply imprinted on the ground.

Ren followed the trail, leaping silently from branch to branch.

Occasionally, a dried branch would crunch underfoot, but he knew the noise wouldn't be enough to alert the hogs below.

The further he walked the greener the surroundings became, indicating a source of water nearby.

In contrast to that the tracks below had gotten a more dark redish tint providing shreds of evidence of animals being dragged.

Ren stood on one of the branches of a massive tree, not going further as he had reached the shelter of the Hogs.

Directly below him was a Hog, it hadn't detected him due to him being high above in the tree.

Not just that it seems that the Hogs had set a perimeter along their shelter, guarding it from other enemies and humans.

All the guard hogs were patrolling their respective area, each very close to the other.

The guard Hogs were all bigger and most probably stronger than the other Hogs.

The problem with these hogs was that they would immediately know if one of their brethren was killed by quite far away making the task harder.

This was due to their sense of smell and due to a special chemical, they produce on being injured or dead.

So how do you remove the guards, without letting the other guard know?

Simple, kill some of the Hogs they were guarding and overwhelm their senses.

This will make the guard Hogs reckless and run like tailless pigs to the shelter they were guarding. 

And that was what Ren was exactly doing, He jumped tree by tree to the centre of the shelter.

'Clever' Thought Ren as he looked at the clearing the hogs had created.

The Hogs had basically broken down the trees near the place where they were sleeping. This stopped predators such as him from reaching them through the trees.

About Thirty-six hogs were sleeping together, with their piglets. The male Hogs were sleeping separately from the females and the piglets.

The ground near the sleeping Hogs was wet and was full of soft mud that most Hogs are usually known to play in. 

There was also a type of storage near the Hogs, it was filled with bodies of animals one on top of the others.

Ren spotted a small fawn in the group of bodies which was the food source of the Pregnant Hogs and the piglets which couldn't hunt yet.

'Perfect' Ren jumped down the tree and then stabbed the tree with his Nuibari.

Hastily, Ren took out some of the thread from the nuibari and bit it with the use of his teeth and then performed a jutsu.

Transformation Technique

In place of Ren, there was now a small ferret. The small ferret ran one circle around the shelter surveying all the Hogs.

*sniff* *sniff*

One of the male sleeping Hogs opened its eyes smelling a new scent. Seeing that it was a small ferret the Hog went to sleep again.

The small ferret ran towards the storage and then dragged the small fawn with its teeth. It started to slowly drag it towards the Hog that had woken up a few seconds ago.

*rsh*

The wet ground made the dragging sound much more audible making the Hog wake up again.

*Grk*

The Hog angry, that had been woken up again grunted in indignation and ran towards the ferret.

*Keuk*

The ferret made a loud frightened sound and ran quickly along with the fawn in its mouth.

The Hog quickly charged towards the ferret and lunged at it.

*Keuk*

The ferret abandoning its meal jumped up and landed on top of the Hog.

*Grk*

The Hog shook its body to shake off the ferret but the ferret kept on jumping on it, whenever it fell, it just went under the hog's belly and came out the other side and jumped on it again.

Finally, the ferret seemed to stop jumping on him as it tried to run away, but as the Hog chased it, it kept on running in circles around the other Hogs.

By now all of the Hogs and piglets had woken up again and seemed to be laughing at the male Hog.

*Grk*

The male Hog infuriated by it, and blinded by anger kept chasing the ferret.

The ferret seemed to slow down, tired. As it ran in a straight line towards the trees. 

*Grk*

The Hog grunted as it felt some resistance to its movement but it lowered its head and plunged straight ahead focused on ramming the annoying ferret into mush.

*Slice*

*squeal* *squeal* *squeal* *squeal* *squeal*

The Hog stopped as it heard its kin squeal and looked back. All of the Hogs and piglets were cut into two pieces, the piglets squealed loudly in pain as they tried to regenerate its body.

A silver hue covered its body but it was of no use.

As the wound was too large, one by one they started emitting the chemical which signalled their death.

*Grk*

All the guardian pigs came running in as they smelled a large amount of death. There was a long thread covered in red blood which reflected due to the moonlight.

The male Hog lowered its head as it followed the thread, right back to its body, tangled across it.

It didn't have the time to even squeal as all the seven Guardian Hogs charged straight at it and rammed into it, thinking that it had killed the piglets.

*Grk*

*squeal*

*Squeal*

The male Hog got killed within a minute without even being able to justify himself.

Just as the Guardian hogs went to grieve their kin. A slight sizzling sound of the wind was heard.

*slice*

And before the Hogs were even aware of it one of the Hog's head came rolling down on the ground and on top of its body stood a human with a tanto in his hand.

*Grk* *Grk*

The Hogs opened their mouth to the extreme and growled angrily as they looked at the tiny human who had likely caused all of this.

'Your breath stinks.' Ren snorted a little in humour as he threw two explosive tag kunai into one of the Hog's mouths.

*Boom* *Boom*

The Hog exploded into a shower of blood and gore. Spilling blood everywhere.

Ren jumped and ran tree from tree leaving behind five of the formerly seven guardian Hogs.

The Hogs quickly followed Ren by land uprooting many trees which came in its path.

'We are at that path by now right?' thought Ren as he looked at the tree he had marked. He jumped down and waited there until the Hogs came.

"YO STUPID PIGS. I'M HERE" The hog hearing his voice enraged came running towards him without any reason.

Which they soon came to regret as hidden thread formation came into view and four hidden threads trapped the legs of the beasts and severed them.

*Squeal*

" I only need two of you" muttered Ren as he went near the Hogs which were squirming on the ground with a silver hue.

Their limbs were slowly regenerating, and when they saw Ren come near them they could do nothing but roll around to try and avoid his tanto.

*slice* *slice* *slice*

And with that two more Hog heads rolled on the ground. Ren looked at the two of the other two hogs left whose limbs had almost grown back.

'I have to bring my Nuibari...Hmm' With that thought Ren cut off the growing limbs again with his Tanto and walked back to where he had stuck his Nuibari.

*Squeal* *Squeal*

The Iron Hogs squealed as they felt the cruel mercy their attacker had shown them. The two Hog again started to exhaust their chakra reserves as they grew back their limbs slowly.

*grk*

Seeing that they had healed, they moved to escape, but that too was abandoned as Ren had arrived just as they tried to escape.

"Oh? Trying to escape?" Ren looked at the two hogs which were bigger than himself and felt a bit sympathy.

But that didn't last long as he knew that they were omnivorous and wouldn't hesitate to kill humans.

Most probably Obata's wife had come in contact with one of its children instead of the one she had raised and had been killed.

But still, that didn't matter much as they were invasive and would need to be exterminated anyway as their existence threatened the ecosystem.

Ren held his Nuibari in front of him as he started attacking one of the Hogs.

*Pierce*

The Nuibari pierced straight through the thick hide of the Hog and left a hole in its torso.

This brought the attention of both the Hogs as they instinctively realized. There was no escape.

*Grk*

Both the Hogs charged at Ren at the same time, who in retaliation dodged the attack and stabbed both the Hogs again.

*pierce*

Both the Hogs were covered in a silver hue as their wounds healed, but as soon as one healed two more wounds took their place.

*Grk*

*Thud*

The Hogs rammed into the trees as they kept lunging at Ren again and again, who dodged each time knowing that even a single attack that hit would be fatal.

The battle got settled into a rhythm as the motions the Hogs went through were the same.

To Ren who had learned the most efficient way to use the sword, it was just a new form of sword practice.

*Pierce*

*dodge*

*pierce*

And by the end of it, the two Hogs were too exhausted to even stand, their regeneration had come to nil as their chakra ran out.

Taking pity on the Hogs, Ren stabbed their brain and ended their misery.

All of the Iron Hogs were exterminated as Ren even checked the cluster of bodies near the shelter to leave no Hog alive.

"How did I do sensei?" asked Ren tiredly as he knew that Itachi had always been in the observable distance in case anything went wrong.

*Woosh*

"You did well."

Ah, this ends the Iron Hog's mission. Was it good? I am thinking of adding my own lore than reusing the same canon again and again.
