Tazuna and Yuto reached the half-constructed bridge. The sound of workers hammering and shaping the bridge filled the air as Tazuna began coordinating with his team.
"You can go ahead and work, Tazuna-san. I'll keep watch," Yuto said firmly, scanning the surroundings.
As Tazuna moved to oversee the construction, Yuto took a moment to prepare. He formed a hand sign that, had Naruko been present, would have earned him a dramatic complaint. "Shadow Clone Jutsu!" he declared, summoning an identical clone.
The clone gave a silent nod before the original Yuto vanished in a swirl of leaves using the Body Flicker Jutsu that will earn Hitomi's complaint. The clone then adjusted its posture, pretending to be the real Yuto, and kept a vigilant eye on Tazuna.
The scene transitioned to a large, heavily guarded mansion near a cliff. Inside, the hall was filled with mercenaries chatting and boasting loudly, their weapons resting at their sides. At the front gates, guards stood alert, scanning the surroundings for any threats.
Above the mansion, a crow circled the air. Its red glowing eyes glinted as it surveyed the area. Spotting the perfect position near a cluster of trees, the bird swooped low and dropped a kunai clutched in its talons. The crow then perched silently on a branch, waiting.
Five seconds later, in a swirl of chakra energy, Yuto appeared where the kunai had landed. He straightened and glanced up at the crow, a small smirk playing on his lips.
'It worked perfectly,' Yuto thought. His crows had been searching for Gato's hideout, each carrying a kunai marked with his chakra anchor ability. When the crow finally stopped moving, it had dropped the kunai as instructed, signaling Yuto to switch to its location using his chakra switch ability.
Yuto crouched low, taking cover behind the thick foliage. His eyes scanned the mansion and its surroundings. 'This is Gato's hideout. Let's see how much trouble you've got hiding inside,' he mused, his Kamigan activating to aid him in reconnaissance.
Yuto's Kamigan scanned the entire mansion thoroughly, each room revealing its secrets. His gaze passed over a luxurious office where Gato sat smugly, conversing with several mercenaries. Beneath the mansion, his vision uncovered a fortified underground vault and, disturbingly, a dimly lit jail.
When his eyes settled on the cells, Yuto's blood boiled. Inside were frightened children, their tear-streaked faces and frail bodies suggesting they had been captured for human trafficking. Gritting his teeth, Yuto clenched his fists.
'I'll free them first,' he vowed silently, 'and then I'll clean this place out.'
Yuto activated a Genjutsu that rendered him completely invisible, slipping past the guards unnoticed. His Kamigan had already confirmed Zabuza and Haku's absence, and the mercenaries present were barely a threat. Moving silently, he navigated the mansion and reached the jail.
Inspecting the conditions of the imprisoned children, Yuto felt his resolve harden. After ensuring he accounted for all of them, he placed them under a Genjutsu that gently put them to sleep. Carefully, he transported them out by switching places with a marked kunai in a secure location. He left a shadow clone behind to watch over them.
Yuto then teleported into the vault. Standing before the heavily secured door, he placed his hand on the lock. A sinister sizzling sound echoed as his corrosive energy disintegrated the mechanism. The lock fell away, and Yuto swung the door open. Inside, piles of wealth glittered in the dim light—cash, jewelry, gold, diamonds, and even property deeds.
"Quite the treasure hoard," Yuto murmured, his lips curling into a mocking smile. Extending his hand, all the loot vanished into his inventory. His grin turned cold as he thought about Gato.
'Let's see if you'll even be alive to react when I return,' Yuto thought, his eyes flashing with deadly intent.
Yuto teleported back to the location where he had moved the children earlier. Their malnourished faces tugged at his heart, but he hid his emotions behind a calm demeanor. Gesturing to his clone, he signaled towards a nearby lake. While the clone left to gather food, Yuto began tending to the children, carefully bandaging their bruises. When they awoke, they cried tears of relief upon realizing they had been rescued.
"You're safe now," Yuto reassured them gently.
The clone soon returned with a bundle of fish, which it began to clean and cook over a fire. Yuto sat down among the children, softly asking them questions about how they had been taken and what they had endured. The kids hesitated but eventually began to share their stories, tears flowing freely as they recounted their harrowing experiences.
Yuto listened intently, anger simmering under his calm exterior. 'These monsters will pay for this,' he thought, vowing justice for the children. However, unknown to him, due to his Kamigan being deactivated, someone was lurking nearby, silently observing the entire scene.
Haku observed the scene with a heavy heart, hidden behind the thick trunk of a tree. The children's cries of anguish over Gato's cruelty struck a chord deep within her. Her fists balled tightly as she grappled with disgust at the realization that she and Zabuza-sama were working for such a monster.
'I never liked hurting others,' she thought, feeling the weight of her role as Zabuza's tool. Watching Yuto care for the children, she couldn't help but feel conflicted. 'He's our enemy, yet he saved them... He's nothing like the monster Gato is.'
Sadness welled up in her as she considered the inevitable confrontation. "I'll have to fight him," she whispered to herself, her voice tinged with regret. Despite her loyalty to Zabuza-sama, she didn't want to kill anyone, especially someone as compassionate as Yuto.
As Haku turned to leave, she silently prayed, 'If there is a next life, may you never be a ninja, Yuto.'
