Chapter 57: Completion
Five days later, without any surprises, Baishi successfully developed his third attribute. The panel displayed an additional Lightning chakra affinity, though it was only at level I compared to the level VI Water and Earth affinities.
Inside the house, Baishi extended his hand, and chakra gathered in his palm. Accompanied by crackling sounds, streams of electricity shot out, enveloping his entire right hand like a spider web. A tingling sensation spread through his hand, and Baishi frowned slightly, attempting to control the Lightning Release chakra in his palm with limited success.
"Indeed, level I Lightning affinity isn't sufficient."
With just this amount of chakra, he couldn't maintain control. If he used even more chakra for body tempering, it would likely spiral out of control. Although his physical condition was robust enough to withstand some risk, using Lightning Release to stimulate his body was a delicate operation, and this level of control was definitely not adequate.
To enhance his control, there were two methods: spend time practicing, or increase the level of Lightning affinity. Baishi immediately dismissed the first option. Not only did he lack efficient training methods, but even if he had them, he wouldn't pursue that route since it would be an inefficient process.
In contrast, enhancing his Lightning affinity would allow even casual practice to be much more effective.
The choice was obvious.
"A sharpened axe won't hinder the cutting of firewood." Baishi immediately stopped evolving his 'basic attributes' and instead devoted much of his time and energy to evolving his [Chakra Affinity: Lightning].
A week later, its level advanced to II (0.1%), and after another half-month, it improved again to level III. Baishi tested the training effect, which was still unsatisfactory. So, he spent nearly a month to bring it up to level IV.
At this stage, training was fruitful, but Baishi was still not satisfied; after all, this was for his own body, and he preferred to have some margin for error. Thus, he spent about forty more days to push it up another level.
After three months, Baishi's panel showed a level V [Chakra Affinity: Lightning].
Closing the panel, Baishi let out a long sigh, similar to three months ago, and again stretched out his right hand. Instantly, a sphere of lightning appeared, filled with fine currents, yet silent.
Over the past three months, he wasn't just waiting for the evolution of [Chakra Affinity: Lightning]; he had also been practicing control over the Lightning Release chakra. Now, the sphere of lightning in his palm was the result of his efforts.
Clearly, he had reached a certain level of mastery over Lightning Release chakra.
Baishi had a feeling that if he could increase the [Chakra Affinity: Lightning] by one more level and master the corresponding nature transformations, he could combine it with the nature transformation of his Water chakra to obtain the 'Storm Release' kekkei genkai.
However, Storm Release didn't hold much appeal for him. Even if acquired, it would only be an enhancement.
Therefore, Baishi had no immediate plans to work in that direction. Based on past experience, raising [Chakra Affinity: Lightning] by another level would take at least two months.
With that time, he would be better off enhancing his 'basic attributes.'
With Wood Release and the Flying Thunder God Technique, he was unafraid whether in battle or flight, so there was no need to waste time on merely another Storm Release.
With that thought, Baishi left the house and went to a spot in the forest where traces of his previous physical training were still faintly visible.
He couldn't help but throw a punch at a tree trunk in front of him, hearing a crack as the trunk broke under the impact. Baishi didn't care and kicked again, shattering the broken trunk.
"Refreshing!"
Baishi shouted, feeling nostalgic, "It's been a while since I last trained like this!"
After speaking, he stood still and closed his eyes, then began to focus intensely, gathering the chakra in his body's meridians.
Moments later, he opened his eyes sharply.
With that, crackling sounds followed, and streams of electricity surged from his body, clinging to various parts of his exterior.
Instantly, Baishi felt a piercing pain throughout his body, signaling that the electrical currents of the Lightning Release were damaging his cells.
Unlike the gentle nature of weight training, using Lightning Release to stimulate the body was more aggressive.
At this point, even without the 'system' assisting evolution, merely relying on the body's natural healing ability during training could achieve highly effective results.
However, this method came with risks of potential hidden injuries and uncontrollable training dangers.
Using Lightning Release for body tempering was no secret in the ninja world, but few dared to try it because of these risks.
Baishi was unique in this regard; anyone else with such uncontrolled internal currents would likely have collapsed.
At this point, worrying about training would be the least of their concerns compared to just surviving.
Feeling the condition inside his body, Baishi didn't waste time. After setting the target and conditions with the 'system', he immediately began evolving.
The 'system' then started extracting chakra from his body, converting it into strands of cooling essence.
No matter how many times he felt it, Baishi found it incredibly fascinating.
The source of evolution converted by the 'system' seemed like something from another dimension. Even with chaotic electrical currents inside him, these cooling essences remained unaffected, only movable by his will.
However, Baishi didn't have the energy to control them now. After handing over the guidance task to the 'system', he started exercising on his own.
He ran, jumped, stood, and squatted, moving as if he were a god of thunder, each action carrying immense power.
After three months, he once again experienced the thrill of rapid progression.
Yet, Baishi was not satisfied with just this; he sought the highest efficiency in evolution.
A quarter-hour later, he stopped training.
Then, he slightly adjusted the intensity and distribution of the internal currents and the speed at which the 'system' extracted chakra, and began training again.
After another quarter-hour, he stopped again and readjusted.
In this way, he adjusted every quarter-hour, and with each adjustment, his evolution speed and chakra consumption rate underwent slight changes.
It took three days to find a balance between the two, maximizing the chakra utilization rate.
At this point, his 'basic attributes' evolution speed had essentially returned to the level of three months prior.
"For now, this will do," Baishi murmured after shutting off the panel.
