"What? The right flank defense was breached by the Hyuga Clan?"
This was the first thing Madara and Gen heard upon arriving at the meeting hall.
Inside, there weren't many people; only the Third Elder, Uchiha Feng, and a bloodied Uchiha clan member.
Seeing Madara and Gen, the Third Elder relaxed and gestured for them to sit, then continued questioning the bloodied ninja. As they exchanged questions and answers, Gen pieced together a mental outline of how the Uchiha defensive line had fallen.
The Uchiha Clan's main forces had been locked in direct confrontation with the Senju, leaving only a small elite team to contain the Hyuga. This setup had held steady for two years without major issues. However, just a few days earlier, the Senju had feigned a full-scale assault on the main front while secretly dispatching a squad of Jonin to assist the Hyuga. Together, they overwhelmed the Uchiha's defense line in a swift, coordinated strike.
Gen couldn't help but sneer internally at his elder's tactical shortcomings. A simple maneuver like this, and they were blindsided? No wonder the Uchiha struggled against the Senju. Even with equal power, poor tactics would always be a fatal flaw.
"Third Elder, the Clan Leader is now besieged and in dire straits! We must send reinforcements!" the bloodied Uchiha ninja pleaded.
The Third Elder's face grew dark as he sighed deeply, saying, "I'd like to help, but most of our clan's elite are on the main front. Only the essential guards and children are left here in the settlement; there's no one else to send."
Suddenly, Madara stood up, stepping forward. "Elder, I'm willing to go to the battlefield as support!"
Gen's face darkened. Is he crazy? This isn't some game—this is war! One wrong move and you're done for! And what's with that intense gaze at me, Madara? You want me to go die with you?
Despite his internal protest, Gen had no choice. Reluctantly, he stepped forward and added, "Third Elder, I too am willing to go to the front lines."
The Elder looked at the two of them, visibly moved. Such young boys, and already they're willing to sacrifice for the clan. "It's admirable that you both care so much for the clan, but you're the future of the Uchiha. Madara, you're just eight, and Gen, you're barely five. The battlefield is no place for you yet. Focus on strengthening yourselves for now and leave these matters to us."
After some words of encouragement, the Third Elder dismissed them. Madara wore an expression of disappointment, and Gen did his best to feign a similar look, though inwardly he breathed a sigh of relief. While Madara has plot armor, I certainly don't. A wise man stays in the shadows, not on the front lines.
After a pause, the Third Elder decided, "I can't send these young ones, but I'll personally lead a team of our guard ninja to the front as reinforcements."
The bloodied ninja beamed with gratitude. "Thank you, Third Elder! Thank you!" As he lowered his head, Gen caught a brief, sly smile cross his lips—a smug satisfaction that quickly vanished.
"Please, Elder, act quickly. I'll return to inform the Clan Leader of this good news immediately."
The Elder nodded. "Yes, go. I'll gather our forces now and head out as soon as we're ready."
The ninja left hurriedly, exiting the hall and making for the forest beyond the clan grounds. Watching his retreating back, Gen's suspicion only grew.
After leaving the hall, Madara was clearly disappointed and went straight to his quarters without a word. But Gen, feeling an undeniable sense of unease, decided to pursue the messenger.
Deep within the woods, far enough from the Uchiha settlement, the ninja sprinted through the treetops. Once he was certain he was alone, his mouth curled into a contemptuous smirk. "Those Uchihas! Fooled by a few words. Just wait until they regret it!"
Lost in his gloating, the spy's foot slipped as he stepped on an oil-slicked tree branch. Looking closer, he spotted three explosive tags attached nearby.
Boom!
The tags detonated instantly. In the midst of the explosion, he summoned all his chakra to his palms, spinning rapidly to form a protective barrier—a classic Hyuga technique: Rotation.
As the blast subsided, he coughed, seething. "Who's there? Show yourself!"
From behind, a cold voice replied, "I've been right here. Are you blind?" Turning quickly, he saw a five-year-old child standing calmly three meters away—the boy from the meeting hall. He hadn't even bothered to learn the kid's name.
The spy's first reaction was panic: He's on to me. But his training held strong. With a warm smile, he said, "Well, if it isn't our little Uchiha genius! Did the Third Elder send you after me with more instructions?"
Even without knowing the boy's name, flattery couldn't hurt. People tend to lower their guard when praised.
Gen, however, was unfazed. "The name's Uchiha Gen. No need for all the 'genius' nonsense. I caught up because I have a question about ninjutsu."
The spy relaxed, assuming the boy had simply followed for advice. Smiling, he replied, "Ask away, young master. If I can help, I certainly will."
