Chapter 13

'Just what kind of mess is Kumogakure trying to start' he thought with a sombre look on his face. Hiruzen, having known the horrors of war, was adamant about starting another war If possible, however judging by the way Kumogakure was behaving, he would soon have no choice but to retaliate even more than he had done so now which could lead to another war which he was sure would end up being the other four great ninja villages banding together against his. Well three as the hidden mist village was currently having its own problems of a massive civil war going on within it but still the odds were not favourable for Konoha should a war begin.

'If Minato hadn't died I would be happily retired by now' thought Hiruzen as he sadly smoked once more.

Meanwhile in the academy, the students were currently busing discussing among themselves about what had occurred last night.

"Hey Yuu, did you hear what happened last night?" asked a sombre Ino who had arrived at Yuu's desk where Yuu could be seen lying on his desk fast asleep. Yuu, fast asleep, didn't even react to her voice causing Ino, with a bulging vein on her forehead, to walk up to him and shake him violently awake.

"WAKE UP YUU!!"

"huhh…" Yuu opened his eyes to a see the face of a slightly enraged Ino and an amused Shikamaru and Choji by her side.

"What?!" asked Yuu a little irritated from being woken up from his sleep. He had currently been busy absorbing the memories of all the shinobi he had killed in his recuperative sleep when he was disturbed and woken by Ino. One could only imagine how irritated and pissed off he was at the moment.

"I was asking if you heard about what happened last night" said Ino who chose to ignore Yuu annoyed expression.

'Hmmph!...Most guys would kill to be woken up by a beautiful girl like me' thought Ino in a scoffing self-centred tone.

"No" said Yuu pretending not to know anything "Why? what happened?"

"You really don't know what happened last night" said Ino in a voice of disbelief.

Yuu's forehead vein bulged even more as he became more irritated "Yes I already said I don't know anything" he said in an irritated voice.

"Well if you don't know then I'll explain it to you. Basically, yesterday the nine-tailed fox went on a rampage and killed a few shinobi however according to my dad this was merely a distraction as the real event was occurring in the Village's elder home where apparently nearly a three-thirds of the old men in that home went missing. Judging by the amount of blood shed it has been assumed that they were all killed, and their bodies stolen."

"I see…." Said Yuu as he put on a pondering face. "And have there been any leads as to who the culprits are?" he asked slowly.

"No. Apparently the culprit responsible for this managed to hide their tracks and scent using their own means so no one knows who the person responsible for this is"

"However, there are speculations that this was done by ..."

"Ino. You've said too much already!" interrupted Shikamaru stopping Ino from speaking any further while also giving her a stern glare.

"Why not? I'm sure that soon everyone will know about this"

"Yes but when that happens should be decided by adults and not by us" said Shikamaru

Ino sighed "Fine I won't say anything else."

Ino and Shikamaru continued to bicker while Yuu on the other hand quietly pondered Ino's words.

'So they still don't know anything about the culprit and the fact that I haven't yet been summoned or surrounded means I should be in the clear for now.'

'The only people worth worrying about were the ninja from the Aburame, Inuzuka and Hyuga clan known for their tracking and sensing skills however I already took care of the Inuzuka and Aburame known tracking methods with the different spices and the Hyuga chunin who observed my chakra yesterday didn't capture me or call for more shinobi to apprehend me so I should be in the clear.'

With his mind at peace knowing that they thought a Kumogakure ninja did all this, Yuu returned back to sleep in order to continue assimilating the memories of the 31 old ninja he had killed. He had killed a few other normal old people in the battle as well but Yuu barely registered them in his mind as they provided little to no chakra or skills hence he decided to assimilate them last. The entire of today, due to recent events, had been declared a self-study day and hence there was no teacher in class which was why the students were currently busy talking amongst themselves. Yuu, however, spent the entire day sleeping and merging all the memories from his power with his own.

He had halted his chakra reserves from increasing past mid Chunin level after which he had his power focus on increasing its density instead. He had sensed that the person with the highest Chakra aside from Naruto was Sasuke who currently had mid chunin level chakra which was probably due to opening his one-tomoe sharingan. So in a sense Yuu could now be considered a genius second only to Sasuke as he didn't possess the illustrious Sharingan.

Yuu had pondered whether he should portray himself as a genius or whether he should remain hidden. Each position had its own strengths and weaknesses. Yuu finally decided to appear as a genius but not a genius stronger than Sasuke Uchiha or the likes of Neji Hyuga and Rock Lee.

He would be at most an average genius at best. This was the reason as to why he stopped his chakra reserves at Mid Chunin as going any further would mark him as a genius above Sasuke which would attract unwanted attention from Hiruzen and Danzo which would be detrimental and dangerous for both his growth and survival.

Just like that an entire month passed and it was time for the end of the year examinations. During the entirety of last month investigations had been done in order to uncover the culprit responsible for the incident to no avail. Over time the fervency of the investigations decreased until finally the Hokage commanded for the entire operation to be shut down as it was now an unnecessary wastage of time and manpower. The Hokage, at this point, was forced to offer a public apology to not being able to find the culprit however he assured the citizens that they had taken measures to ensure such a thing never happened again. Whether this was true or merely words of appeasement remained to be seen.

In the ninja academy the students were seated in an examination hall where they could be seen focused entirely on the exam papers on their desks. After two hours the test was over and everyone moved on the next phase of the examinations, the taijutsu spars. In these spars different students would be randomly called forward to battle against each other and the final grades would be calculated by the number of wins and losses.
