Mystic Thief

Seventeen-year-old Devon Oasis became an orphan at the tender age of seven when his parents fell victim to an invasion. The tragedy occurred after their rival kingdom, Feuer, stole the power crystals that energized the defensive pillars of Devon's home kingdom, Audaznimo. The kingdom of Audaznimo was attacked on the same night the crystals were stolen, although the assault did not originate from Feuer. Audaznimo, having placed unwavering trust in the impregnable defense of the pillars, had let their guard down. Unfortunately, the pillars failed, resulting in a massacre of innocent lives. The method by which Feuer managed to dismantle the supposedly impenetrable towers remained a mystery to all. Although Audaznimo managed to push back the invaders, it was too late—the damage was already done. Devon, having lost his parents during the invasion, was fortunate to find solace with his uncle, the leader of a theft gang within the kingdom. Initially hesitant to involve his nephew in their illicit activities, Devon's uncle ultimately decided to impart his knowledge, believing it would benefit his nephew in various ways. Thus, Devon was introduced to the clandestine world of thievery. He became a part of the group, a group of young people of similar ages who had to steal to be able to sustain the orphanage. They were always reminded by his uncle that they were only stealing to make sure they survived at the orphanage since the kingdom didn't care about them and went on to lay out certain morals for them as thieves. However, Devon found those morals to be pointless because he had grown to love the thrill of stealing, the great sensation that came from being chased after taking someone's possessions. If there was anything he wanted, he was going to take it no matter what because to him, upholding morals as a thief was pointless and his fate as a thief was already sealed. Excerpt: "You know this is a B-ranked mission so Emilia will go with you and please try not to do anything careless?" His uncle's words rang in his mind as he freely tumbled down the hill of sand and when he finally hit the floor, he lost consciousness. [ Host is active ] [ System rebooting ] "What's going on?" He groaned as he sat up on the floor and pulled out the knife that was stuck on the left side of his abdomen, he was bleeding but surprisingly, he couldn't focus on that. [ Reboot completed ] [ Hello, Devon ] [ Your Master Thief System Is Active ] "What the heck is going on?" After mumbling those words, his vision slowly began to fade until he crashed down to the floor and passed out. What he obtained that day was a system that aligned perfectly with his major goal in life. "If all I have to do to become better at stealing is to keep stealing then that means I'm never going to stop for anything or anyone." ______ The story is going to start out a bit slow paced but I assure you that you're in for a ride because it won't take long before everything speeds up and the plot starts to get revealed bit by bit, enjoy! Chapter Twenty Eight: I Just Want Some Pizza

"Bye-bye, princess." The silver-haired woman muttered with a wry voice that reflected the smug look she had on her face now.

The princess knew that she was in a very difficult situation right now, and although the chances of her avoiding any shot from the hooded figure behind her was really low, she had to do something to at least not get hit in a deadly spot.

There was no point in turning around, she just had to lift her foot and hit the floor before he could fire out an arrow from his crossbow.

However, just before any of them could do what they wanted to do, a loud gulp pierced through the air before a paroxysmal cough followed.

"Huh?" The princess gasped with a shocked expression on her face before quickly turning around to see that the hooded figure was still behind her.

However, a flaming fist seemed to have pierced through his body from behind, and the owner of the fist was right behind him.

His fist was covered in the blood that was dropping down from the hooded figure's body and when he pulled down his hood, his eyes already looked lifeless as blood sipped out from his mouth down to his chin.

"Jax." The princess muttered with expressions of relief and perplexity.

"Hi, Elena." He replied before quickly pulling his hand out from the man for him to fall to the floor.

He had a tall and muscular body, a seasoned face with crimson eyes, a slightly concave nose, and pink lips.

His hair was straight and seemed to be somewhat brown, it also looked like he cut it short a bit because a part of it was covering a part of his left eye.

If he were to put off the academy uniform he was putting on right now and start walking around the street, nobody would ever think that he was still in the academy.

And well, that sort of made sense because he was currently a third-year student in the academy, this year was his last year in the academy.

"I see you managed to get yourself into quite the pickle this time." He remarked as he slowly made his way to her with his left hand in his pocket.

"I could have gotten out of that situation." She retorted with a huff.

"You sure about that?" He replied before pulling closer to her. "Because it looked like you were panicking from where I was standing." He teased.

"Hey, now's not the time for that." She said abruptly before pushing him back a bit.

There was a little moment of silence between them, the silver-haired woman remained mute even after Jax appeared from behind and took her partner out.

"You know you didn't have to kill him," Elena remarked with her gaze on the dead man who was lying on the floor.

"Well, my rule is to kill whoever tries to kill me," Jax replied.

"He wasn't trying to kill you." She blurted.

"Well, he was trying to kill someone I care about so it's the same thing." He replied with a shrug.

After hearing him say that, Elena let out a sigh before shaking her head a little.

"And let me guess, you met up with his partners on the way here and did the same thing to them?"

"Wow, you're really good at this guessing game." He replied with a genuinely surprised expression on his face before quickly switching to a serious voice. "However, I wasn't really planning to kill him until I saw that this one you had with you was alive, she'll do for questioning."

That was the first time he was turning his gaze to the silver-haired woman since she got there, and as soon as the two made eye contact, she quickly pulled out a small knife from her back and was about to slit herself with it when he caught her hand.

There was no form of struggle, she just couldn't move her arm any further, and after observing her face for a while with a straight look on his face, he slowly leaned closer to her.

"There's no rush, you'll still get to die but if you don't want a slow and painful death of bone burning then you'll have to tell us everything you know, that's the only guarantee that your death will be swift."

The fact that he said all that with a casual voice and a straight face sent shivers running down her spine.

For the first time since she caught her, Elena was able to see her get terrified but she wasn't surprised.

At the same time, she was still worried about something she said to her just before Jax got there.

'Father.'

Devon wanted to follow the princess down the alley to see how things were going to end between her and the person she was chasing but on second thought he decided to scrap that idea.

Again, it was none of his business and it didn't look like he was going to gain anything from it, he came out to eat some pizza at the pizza store after all.

Right now, he was sitting in front of the counter in the pizza shop with his gaze on the floor but his mind was somewhere else.

The area seemed to be quite void of people as they were only a few people standing around the corners talking about what just happened but he just wanted to get his pizza and then maybe go find something else to do while hoping for a mission from Michael.

[ 450/500 Mystic Points ]

'So, three hundred and forty-five mystic points from all this stuff.' He said before slowly shifting his hand to touch the bag he had around his waist. 'Too bad there was nothing super valuable to take but this is something at least plus I can get money from selling them.'

[ Teleportation: level 02 ]

[ Invisibility: level 01 ]

[ Swap: level 01 ]

'Hmmm.'

There was something he learned while he was going around swiping amidst the chaos.

His new skill swap had a drawback just like his first two but it wasn't a gated usage per day or energy cost as he had already confirmed yesterday, it was that the object he wanted to get with swap had to be within a certain range.

[ Swap ]

[ Range: Five meters ]

'I wonder why that didn't show up yesterday. But it might increase if I level it up just like I did with teleportation.'

[ -100 Mystic points ]

[ Swap: 100/100 Mystic points ]

[ Swap is now at level 02 ]

[ Range has been increased by five more meters ]

[ Range: Ten meters ]

'Well, that's a big increase.'

[ 350/500 Mystic Points ]

'Another level, another five meters.'

He was about to go through the process of transferring the mystic points when he suddenly felt someone's touch on his shoulder and he did what anybody would do in that situation.

He slowly turned his gaze to the person to see that it was an academy student who looked to be a bit older than him.

A male student who had black and a regular haircut.

Devon made sure to glance at his neck to see that he had a flame mark there, and just from how he was glaring at him now, he knew what he wanted or what he wanted to do.

However, he wasn't intimidated in the slightest as he chose to ignore the student and turn his gaze away from him.

"Hey, can you get up? I want to sit there." He demanded after concluding in his mind that perhaps Devon didn't understand what he meant with that glare.

What he was trying to do now was simply ridiculous, there were two more seats in front of the counter, and sitting on any of them wouldn't cost him anything.

He expected Devon to shy away from the seat or try to fight back with his words but he just ignored him.

'Hmmm, just go away.'

"Hey, I'm talking to you." He called out with a voice of desperation and fury but Devon didn't even bat an eye toward him.

'I just want to get some pizza, why do you academy fools have to go around thinking you're better than everyone?'

"Alright that does it, get off that seat."

This time he accompanied his words with his fist, if Devon was going to ignore him then perhaps punching him off the seat would teach him a lesson.

'Oh, dear.' Devon sighed inwardly. 'I just hope Uncle doesn't get wind of this.'
