Mystic Thief

Seventeen-year-old Devon Oasis became an orphan at the tender age of seven when his parents fell victim to an invasion. The tragedy occurred after their rival kingdom, Feuer, stole the power crystals that energized the defensive pillars of Devon's home kingdom, Audaznimo. The kingdom of Audaznimo was attacked on the same night the crystals were stolen, although the assault did not originate from Feuer. Audaznimo, having placed unwavering trust in the impregnable defense of the pillars, had let their guard down. Unfortunately, the pillars failed, resulting in a massacre of innocent lives. The method by which Feuer managed to dismantle the supposedly impenetrable towers remained a mystery to all. Although Audaznimo managed to push back the invaders, it was too late—the damage was already done. Devon, having lost his parents during the invasion, was fortunate to find solace with his uncle, the leader of a theft gang within the kingdom. Initially hesitant to involve his nephew in their illicit activities, Devon's uncle ultimately decided to impart his knowledge, believing it would benefit his nephew in various ways. Thus, Devon was introduced to the clandestine world of thievery. He became a part of the group, a group of young people of similar ages who had to steal to be able to sustain the orphanage. They were always reminded by his uncle that they were only stealing to make sure they survived at the orphanage since the kingdom didn't care about them and went on to lay out certain morals for them as thieves. However, Devon found those morals to be pointless because he had grown to love the thrill of stealing, the great sensation that came from being chased after taking someone's possessions. If there was anything he wanted, he was going to take it no matter what because to him, upholding morals as a thief was pointless and his fate as a thief was already sealed. Excerpt: "You know this is a B-ranked mission so Emilia will go with you and please try not to do anything careless?" His uncle's words rang in his mind as he freely tumbled down the hill of sand and when he finally hit the floor, he lost consciousness. [ Host is active ] [ System rebooting ] "What's going on?" He groaned as he sat up on the floor and pulled out the knife that was stuck on the left side of his abdomen, he was bleeding but surprisingly, he couldn't focus on that. After mumbling those words, his vision slowly began to fade until he crashed down to the floor and passed out. What he obtained that day was a system that aligned perfectly with his major goal in life. "If all I have to do to become better at stealing is to keep stealing then that means I'm never going to stop for anything or anyone." ______ The story is going to start out a bit slow paced but I assure you that you're in for a ride because it won't take long before everything speeds up and the plot starts to get revealed bit by bit, enjoy! Chapter Thirty Two: Oblivious

"So, what you're saying is that you used a spell to create this whole space inside my mind?"

Devon was sitting on the floor now with his legs crossed as she stood over him.

What he just said now was the conclusion he came to after she explained a bit of what happened to him.

"Yeah." She replied with a nod.

"Okay, so how were you able to do it and why?" He asked before turning his gaze to the Katana blade which was still hanging in the air.

"Well, I have mana so I can cast spells like this one. All I needed you to do was stare deep into my eyes and you did that when you thought I was going to kill you." She phrased. "As for why I decided to bring you here, let's just say you managed to pique my interest."

"Pique your interest how?"

She didn't reply immediately and proceeded to turn her gaze to her sword before turning it back to him.

"I wasn't sure at first so I wanted to get closer and check if my hunch was right."

"Um…what are you talking about?" Devon inquired with a confused expression on his face.

"Touching my sword should have burnt your hands but for some reason, it didn't and that reminds me of someone I ran into last night or to be precise someone who snuck into my room last night." She revealed.

As soon as Devon heard her say that, his eyes widened in shock but he quickly shook it off because he still had the intention of bluffing himself out of it.

"And how are you sure that we're the same person?" He asked with a sudden serious expression on his face now.

"Seriously? You want to do this now, I don't have any intention of arresting you or anything. Does that make you feel more at ease?" She asked before leaning closer to him.

"I don't know what you're talking about." He insisted.

After hearing him say that, she let out a deep sigh before slowly making her way to her sword, and as soon as she touched it, it turned to the red spear she threw at him last night.

Devon quickly shifted his gaze to her before turning away before she could catch him.

"If I really had any intention of turning you in, I would have alerted the guards as soon as you were gone, and with my help, we might have caught but look at what I did instead." She expressed before the spear suddenly turned into the tiara she was putting on this morning and she slowly placed it on her head. "Even up till now, no one knows that the tiara was stolen and no one will ever know because I'll just tell them that it went missing during the attack."

"So, that's how she did it." He muttered just after seeing the spear turn into the tiara.

"Huh?"

"Nothing." He said abruptly before shaking his head.

"I just want you to know that I don't have any intention of turning you in, I just want to talk to you about something inside of you that you may not know about." She reassured him.

"Something inside of me?"

"Yeah, there's a reason why you're able to touch objects made with my blood manipulation without getting your hands burnt." She articulated but there was no immediate response from Devon who just kept staring at her.

He was trying to call on his thoughts but nothing seemed to be happening, everything he wanted to say in his mind came out with a little whisper which was why he stopped trying.

"You know, if I wanted to arrest you, there would be no reason to bring you here, the fact that you were able to touch my sword is enough grounds to do that and things won't end likely for you, you're really starting to piss me off now and I might end up doing that if it's the only way to get you to cooperate."

After trying a couple of times to be nice to him, Elena seemed to have finally snapped and Devon did not like the threatening look she was giving him now.

"Fine, what is this stuff inside of me that you're talking about?" He sighed.

"Oh, so you've finally decided to cooperate." She said as the smile on her face suddenly returned. "Anyway, you'll have to teleport to my room just like you did last night, we're out of time."

"Huh? And how am I supposed to be sure that's not a trap?"

"I already told you that I have enough grounds to arrest you right here if I want to, so just keep quiet!" She yelled forcing him to inch back a bit.

While Elena had already conversed with Devon for what seemed to be a few minutes in his mind, only a few seconds had passed in the real world as they were still in the same position and so was everyone who was watching the fight.

"Well, it looks like I won." She smiled before slowly pulling her sword back.

Grabbing the sword like that seemed to have cut Devon's fingers but it wasn't anything serious so he kept it to himself.

"I knew he wasn't that much of a fighter, he had to rely on that thing to beat Josh."

"Well, Josh was going to use his ability so it made sense, if he had chosen the second option then he might have won the fight."

"You've had your fight now, I'm leaving now," Devon muttered before he turned around and began to make his way to the gate.

This time no one stopped him until he walked out of the academy grounds.

With him gone now, the students began to head back to their classrooms or wherever they were heading before Mr. Izak called their attention.

"Finally." Victor sighed before making his way out of the area.

Elena just stood there with a smile on her face, and just as she looked up, she made eye contact with the red-haired girl who was the only one standing up there now.

The two kept their gaze on each other until the redhead turned her gaze away from her and walked away.

________ _______

Devon was slowly walking down the road with a lot of thoughts running through his mind.

'I knew I shouldn't have come out today, I don't even know what I'm supposed to do now. Now I have to go back to her room or she might do something and she also hasn't given me the gold coins.'

The area was still almost void of people as a lot of the people were still afraid of coming out after what happened that morning.

'But, I'm sort of curious about what she meant about me being able to touch things made with her blood manipulation and something inside of me. Does she mean this strange system? Either way, I'll have to get this over with.'

After processing that last line of thought, he quickly covered his head with his hood before quickly making his way to the tree on his left.

He believed that she had no intention of arresting him from everything he had seen but he still held on to the thought that she may still have an ulterior motive.

It didn't take long before he found himself in the princess' room but he was startled the moment he got there.

"How the heck did you get here so fast?" He sputtered with his gaze on Elena who was sitting on her bed now with a tea cup in her hand.

"Oh, did you think you were the only one who could teleport?" She chortled before dropping the cup on the small table beside her bed.

"You can do that? But you only have a frostflake mark on your neck."

'Oh, she just told me about spells.'

"And you don't even have a mark on your neck yet you can teleport and become invisible which is quite odd since you seem to be oblivious of your mana composition." She retorted.

"My mana composition?" He muttered with a confused expression on his face.
