C H A P T E R - S I X T E EN

When I woke up, I was certain I was in Falcone's bed.

I opened my eyes and listened after stretching out one arm and discovering that the bed was empty. I could hear nothing.

I turned over and peered out across his warehouse's expansive floor to see the light beaming brightly everywhere. I placed my hands under my cheeks and drifted off to sleep, allowing the previous night's events to enter my mind.

Melinda was more alarmed than Dad was. Firebombs were already terrible enough; automatic weapons took the badness to a new level.

Particularly after hearing that my bag and purse were "at the scene" on the sofa and that my car was in the front of the home. Even though it wasn't my fault, I felt horrible about the way my disappearance was handled.
