Episode 21: Regroup

After leaving Narci behind Kilr Rombot happened to come across the rather awkward duo: Duke King and Bryce Hammer (Chaz). Kilr had become rather acquainted with Duke in the past, Duke was one of the top footballers in the school and also one of the school bullies. He was someone who loved looking down on others and carried a certain pride Kilr failed to understand.

Duke King once tried to ask him to join up in his group even after knowing Kilr was a slacker. Perhaps because both other their parents were rich, Duke's father owned a five star hotel somewhere in the big city.

And his companion Bryce Hammer was a bit of a more intriguing figure. He went by the name Chaz for some reason, and was Duke's shuttle boy. He was always sloppy and slow to act, and lacked any quality Kilr would care about. Even his class was s**t!

Kilr managed to save them from a horde of zombies.

But why was he working with them?

Simple!

Duke's class was a tank! Tanks were very efficient in RPGs as they were able to take heavy hits due to their high endurance and dexterity. Also the power of a tank would be very efficient for him against his next target!

Kilr initiated the system mission screen…

Kilr had been trying as much as possible to improve on his skills and swordsmanship for it. He did not know the penalty for failure neither did he want it. He led his group into the cafeteria they used as their base to regroup.

Kilr made sure to bar the door behind him and marched over to the counter to find himself something to eat. He managed to find some rice, it wasn't bit but at least he found it edible.

Kilr strode over to one of the tables and took his seat, the grade of his mission had gone up to D, he feared the longer he delayed the stronger it would inevitably become. There was also the possibility of someone else beating it before he could. He wanted to advance his decay skill as much as he could.

He had nine hours left and his decay skill used an hour to cool down. He as more bothered by the fact that he did not have any combat based skill, his Necromancy class also seemed like a disappointment.

Dead Assessment had reached level 3 but nothing about it had proven useful to him.

Suppression Of The Dead had reached level 2, this one proved a bit useful to him but it wasn't effective against huge number of zombies or zombies of higher levels.

Touch Of The Dead was a new skill he had gotten not long ago. It was more effective than the others but it wasted too much mana.

His health had reached 110.

His mana was at 90.

Kilr banged his face into the table and taxed his head for a possibility strategy, his two new companions stared at him praying he would not start one if his tantrums again. Kilr had promised them that if they helped him he would give them 100 coins but he never said each though.

Duke walked over to him in a proud and provocative manner and took his seat opposite Kilr. He cleared his throat to get Kilr's attention but Kilr could not be bothered to look his way.

"Um, Kilr right?"

No response.

"About our coalition. To be clear I'm only doing this for the money and not for any reason whatsoever, I was thinking if you could like give me half of the lay right now since we're both of like manner!"

Kilr rubbed his palms against each other not because they were cold but because he needed to think. "I needed a way to make by skills better effective in combat."

Duke frowned at the fact that he was being ignored.

"Hey!! Don't you dare ignore me, I am the son of the King enterprise boss! Do you know how many people would want to lick my boot?"

Duke snapped his fingers together and Chaz came over from behind and bent down to lick Duke's leather black shoe. Duke wore a proud face as Chaz extended his tongue to his shoe. As Chaz tongue touched the shoe Duke kicked him hard in the face sending Chaz flying backwards into a line of tables and chairs.

Duke looked over at Kilr to find what expression would be on his face but he was not prepared dlfor what he got in return.

Kilr stared at him with a deadpan expression like a flat board and said. "If you want to play please do it somewhere else. Some of us are trying to survive this apocalypse here!"

Duke was perplexed as Kilr started twirling a pen in his hand and staring at nothingness.

"This guy, could it be that he's unmoved by even my presence? Now that I think of it, he wasn't afraid of the zombies! Rather he was smiling!"

"It takes some serious psychology to be able to adjust to this world, is that why this slacker is so much stronger than me? I really need to become friends with him at least till I can learn all his secrets!"

Kilr banged his head on the table and screamed out loud.

"I've got nothing!!"
