Day 2 - Shopping time

The plan is for me to use the rest of the day to learn some minorum, at least some defensive and attack types, but before that I need find out what element is my strength. According to the elder every wizard is more adept to one of the basic elements, it doesn't mean that is the only element they can use, but it does mean their spells related to that element are superior when compared to the others.

To find out I went to the governance hall's sanctum again, this time there was a clear crystal ball in the room; it looks like they fit the room with implements as needed. I'm supposed to cast any spell on the crystal ball, they warned me not to use anything too powerful or dangerous, like I had anything like that available, anyways they concern is appreciated.

Once I cast my magic the crystal ball will change color according to the element I'm more adept to, I casted "Examine" on the crystal ball. The information I got this time was very meager, just the basic description of the item.

I guess as I get more powerful my spells will too, it is good to know that more information will become available as I get better with my magical power. I'll go have a quick lunch before heading to the governance hall.

As I was making my way back to the governance hall, the elder told me that since I was at least partially a wizard I should get myself the basic equipment, a good set of starter robes, traveler's boots and either a mage hat or a leather helmet.

I went to the town square shops and had the tailor measure me, I could get a basic equipment, pay a bit more for specialized equipment or gamble for equipment which might have good attributes or could be very bad, all will depend on my luck. I had my stipend 7246.9 zeniths, which is the local currency; each gamble will cost 800 zeniths, versus a 2500 for custom made equipment seemed like a good bargain but I could get crappy equipment too.

I'll try my luck with boots, helmet and gloves if all goes well I can either pay for a full robe set or gamble again, it has to be at least a decent outcome.

I'll go for boots first, they should give me physical defense at the basic level; better equipment later on can also improve my dodge. So let's see what I get for my 800 zenith boots. I surge magic trough the magitek cube and my new boots appear. I casted "Examine" on them

It seems I hit the jackpot with the boots and got the full 3 stats for them, not bad stats either. With such results, I'll go for the helmet next, a wizard hat doesn't sound like a bad idea either but at least for now should look for strengthening my defenses rather than my attacks.

I powered the magitek cube again and a helmet made of leather appeared, let's see what I got this time. I casted "Examine" on it to find out.

Really? These stats seem overkill, well that's assuming a lot actually. I haven't face any monster or enemies here to actually find out if my stats are bad or good, I mean ten extra hit points might seem much but if a normal enemy has one thousand then it is really nothing, on the opposite if a normal enemy has only five points then is a mythical upgrade. I guess I'll find out.

I have spent a 1600 zeniths and I'm down to 5646.9 zeniths now, even though gloves are not mandatory, I think I'll get a pair if the system is rigged in my favor I can get even better gains and if not then at least anything I gain will add up. So for another 800 zeniths I use the magitek once again.

Let's see what "Examine" can tell me about the gloves I got.

I guess the yin yang title comes from having both strength and intelligence bonus, the shop owner is looking at me suspiciously and looks like he wants to say something. There is also a young girl that seems to be his daughter, she finally muster the courage to ask me if I'm cheating. So those are actually high stats, but how can I be cheating I don't know many spells and my level is too low.

The shop owner, whose name is Cruz, smiles apologetically and pleads for forgiveness for his daughter rudeness. Her name is Yun, what a cute befitting of a cute girl.

I explain to both of them that even if I wanted to cheat my level are too low, I don't have much magical power neither skills to do so, and above all even if I had I haven't got out of town yet, so I wouldn't even know what stats and bonus are good or useful, so what point will it have.

Cruz seems to realize that all I said is true, Yun blushed when she realize it too. Cruz gave a magical recovery elixir for the misunderstanding even when I insisted it was normal and I didn't expect anything as compensation, but he told me to take and come back to shop here often.

I asked how the elixir worked and he just told me to drink when my magical power was low, I frowned as the only way to know when that happens is by casting "Examine" but if my magical power is low how can I do that. Yun laughed a bit and ask if I didn't know about the -| Status Charm |- , of course I don't, I just got to this world.

She explained that this magical artifact is a pendant wear in a necklace or bracelet, and will continuously show me basic status information, meaning my vitality, magical power, class and current level, of course for further information and details I'll still need to cast "Identify" but since the charm displayed the basic at all time and for no magical power it was still very useful to any seed.

Of course I need to purchase this, when I inquiry about the price, Yun told me that they can vary depending on whether they were mass produce or specifically designed for the user and of course the level of detail. The simplest one started at 1000 zeniths and the most decorated and exclusives could reach hundred thousands of zeniths. Right now the shop only had two types, the basic one at 1000 zeniths and an engraved one at 2000 zeniths.

Since I still have buy the robes and provisions, I'll go for the cheaper one at the end both do the same function. When I told Yun to give me the cheaper one, she look at her dad, Cruz smile and nodded at her. Yun went to the back of the shop and Cruz told me keep browsing as she will take a bit to come back with the charm.

After the 1000 zeniths for the -|Status Charm|- I'll still have 3846.9 zeniths, so even if I get a bad robe with the gamble I still could buy a regular one and some provisions. So I'll risk it, I told Cruz to inspect the magitek cube before I tried again just to be sure, he said it was not necessary he didn't doubt me.

So I proceed to infuse some magical power in the cube and here comes my new robe, a faint green glow could be seen for a few seconds, maybe the other equipment also had a temporarily glow but I didn't pay attention as I wasn't as expectant of the results as this time. Once again I casted "Examine" to see what attributes it has.

It seems my luck wasn't as good this time, there are not bad but there are only two and the defense range is low. I guess I'll ask Cruz about the tailor made robe and compare from this.

Cruz told me that a custom made robe for the low levels could at most reach 30 points of physical defense, so my 8 points are too low actually, however I paid less than a third of the price of a tailored robe so I can't complain. However when I told him the stats I got he told me that it was near perfect stat wise, if it also had a bonus to physical defense it would be perfect, he even offered to buy it back for 500 zeniths.

When he saw me hesitant of selling, he told me that another option was to take it to a jeweler to raise its stats, but how much that will cost he wasn't sure. As we were talking Yun came back with the -|Status Charm |- it was on a necklace, when she handed it to me, I notice that it was engraved. It had and "M" and an "E" and between them a pencil, the engraving was simple yet elegant.

I gave Yun the 2000 zeniths, but she only took 1000 and told me that the engraving was a gift from the shop, just to make sure that in the future as I travel, to spread the word of this shop excellent products and great service. I smiled and nodded at Yun.

As soon as I wear the charm I can see my level, my class, vitality and magical power floating above eye level, this looks like an RPG display hub, but I guess that was to expected as this world is very RPG-ish. My current (MP) is 0, so I decide it to call it a day and go eat dinner before sleeping.
