Chapter 46 Dejavu

Cleo and his party left Venundarr after eating. They gave Leah's horse to Anna while Cleo and Leah ride together. Their destination is the neighboring city, Marraca. Unlike Venundarr this city is not fond of outsiders but they still need to risk it since Valerie's informant lead them here.

They somehow need to get a recommendations from the inside in order to safely pass the guards. As much as Cleo don't want to risk it, this is a better option than to face Camilla with their current level. They can only hope that Valerie can find her friend inside the city.

"Do you think you can find your friend in that city?" asked by Cleo.

"I hope so." replied by Valerie.

"Is your friend also human?" asked by Cleo.

"He's an elf. Don't worry though. I'm sure he can help us." replied by Valerie with an assuring tone.

"Sure." replied by Cleo. He have no choice but to believe this naive girl's words.

The party is almost riding for an hour the scenery didn't change much from when they started. Roads are at least developed in this area. Trees and lush greens on each of their side. They will occasionally see a traveling merchant or caravan.

Another hour passed by. The forest is starting to get thinner, a sign of civilization nearby.

*WHOOSH*

An arrow flew by piercing Valerie's horse in the head.

The horse's jolt dismounts Valerie. She fell on the ground however she recovered quickly to assess the situation.

Cleo and Anna stops at their tracks to check the surrounding area.

Their surrounding suddenly turn dim which is weird since its noon. Once they realize the cause.

"Fire Wall!" chanted by Anna. A wall made of fire erected in front of Anna protecting her and Valerie.

"Fire Pillar!" chanted by Leah. Fire encircles both herself and Cleo protecting them from the arrows.

Once the initial attack stops and the smoke from the fire skills dissipates. Five female elf that wore mask covering the lower half of their face appears in front of them.

"We don't mean any harm!" shouted by Valerie while raising both of her hands.

The elves ignores the naive woman and charge at her.

Valerie react on time and raises her shield blocking the elf's knife.

Cleo took this opportunity to check their status.

Aside from what looks like the leader the rest have levels between 40-45 and their job is Thief.

"Focus! Valerie! They might be another assassins sent by Camilla." says by Cleo.

"Enchant: Fire!" chanted by Anna buffing their weapons with fire element.

One of the masked elf notice the mage behind and rush at her direction.

*CLANG*

Cleo intervene and parry the dagger with his double edge sword.

"Medusa's Gaze!" shouted by Cleo while locking eyes with the masked elf. Cleo is now level 60 thanks to the combination of Dire Wolves and Undead Soldiers they hunted during their journey.

Yes, both Cleo and Leah are currently Lv. 60. Their level increased by 10 while Valerie whose with them since from the beginning of their travel only increased her level by 1.

The masked elf felt her body stiffening and after a few more seconds her movements comes to halt.

"Critical Point!" shouted by Cleo. A blueish aura appears on the masked elf vital points which only Cleo can see. He then made a stabbing motion and pierces one of her vital points.

Sylvia the leader of this assassin notice Cleo's movements.

'That boy is a SwordMaster!? He looks like 20 years old at max.' says by the confused leader of the assassins. 'and the girl casted a weird fire spell as well.' she added pertaining to Leah's skill Fire Pillar.

The shock made her movements sloppy which Valerie took advantage of.

"Holy Sword!" shouted by Valerie. A golden aura engulfs her sword.

Sylvia barely avoided the attack.

"Retreat for now!" shouted by Sylvia. 'This is bad. I'm confident with my network aside from this Crusader this should be an easy assassination.' she said inwardly, the existence of a young Sword Master and unknown job threw her out of the loop.

Sylvia's eyes widened when she saw that she is the only one remaining.

Cleo and Leah dealt with her subordinates easily. These are her trusted subordinates whose with her ever since Clyde made them part of his Shadow Unit.

This is an unknown territory to the experienced assassin. Their assassination success rate is close to 100% since they always thoroughly investigate their targets. Which they did.

Before she can regain her composure a red headed young man appears behind her and made a chopping motion, her eyes roll up and a few second after she lost her consciousness.

Cleo then took their spatial rings.

"We need to find a secluded area to do the interrogation." says by Cleo not even bothering catching the falling unconscious masked elf.

"Let's check the forest around here." suggested by Valerie.

Valerie carried the unconscious masked elf back to her horse while Cleo, Leah and Anna rode the other remaining alive horse.

Anna suggested that she will just walk in fear of what Leah might do however Cleo reassures her nothing will happen and they can't really afford to slow down especially they are carrying an enemy with them.

The party ride at the direction of the thick forest.

After an hour of searching they found an abandoned shack. Cleo check the surroundings and proceed to do a lap around the shack. Once they knew it is abandoned they pry open the door.

Stench of mold invades their noses. Dust and cobwebs covered the walls. Valerie then toss the unconscious masked elf and took a rope from her spatial ring to bind the assassin.

Cleo felt a sense of dejavu looking at the masked elf. The same exact thing happened before which results in his first kill of human life in this world.
