23 23. Poisoned

Adrian sat calmly beside his parent, and start a conversation with random talk. The Changs, who come for the dinner was his parent, the current Master and Mistress, the old couple grandparent, and his childhood friend, Nina Gu.

" Long time no see, Adrian." Nina smiled teasingly. Adrian laughed and shook his head at her smirk.

" Sure, long time no see. How your fiance? I didn't see him a lot this day. Busy?" Hearing this, Nina scoffed and fiercely stabs the steak on her plate with a fork. Adrian gulped.

" Yeah, right. Busy whoring around with chicks. Can you believe if I said that I saw him with his another b*tch last night, right before our anniversary night?" Talking about her fiance always make her heart bitter and sad. Adrian smiled, do not know how to coax her.

" Well, I believe you. Last month I saw him at a theatre with the new rising star, Bo Chichi." Adrian shrugged. Nina huffed and stuffed the almost ruined steak into her mouth.

" Hmph, the joy..." Mumbling this, she ignored Adrian as she immersed herself with the food.

" Adrian, I heard you hiring a bodyguard for Evan. Where is he? Introduce him to me," Adrian's grandfather, Chang Feye asked about the bodyguard he heard from the butler last night.

" Not he, but she. A woman," Adrian leisurely sips his tea, enjoying the shocked expression on the old man. And, she's my wife, though...' Adrian add the sentence internally.

" Female bodyguard?! Are you crazy? Why you hired a woman to be Evan's bodyguard? Is there is no male bodyguard anymore?" The old man huffed in displeasure.

" Grandpa, the bodyguard I hired are very capable. And, she from Black Flag Organisation, Allen's subordinate."

" Allen? Allen Smith? That young man?" Yet, another shocking news struck the old man hard to his mind. Adrian nodded. This was not a secret between him and his family members. Allen Smith, the only heir of Welden Smith, a world-famous legendary figure underworld.

" Good, then. I greatly believe in his eyes for choosing her as Evan's bodyguard. His judgement never failed to amaze this old man." Old Man Chang nods, reassured at his grandson arrangement.

The old woman beside the old man Chang glanced at her grandson and noticed a faint tenderness and strong adoration in Adrian's violet eyes. She secretly amused that she knew the girl was not somebody Adrian will choose randomly.

" What's her name, child?" The old woman asked with a curious tone. But, how Adrian can't see his grandmother tried to get some information about Layla? He chuckled.

" Layla Rose," while speaking about his baby girl, a warmth feeling nudged his heart and beats faster with her name.

" Layla Rose...such a beautiful name for a beautiful young lady," Old Madam Chang generously praised Layla and saw how smug her grandson was.

" Yes," He openly admits it. The grandparent laughed, as Adrian's mother heard her son talking about a girl. 'Oh my, am I will become a grandmother soon?' An expectation filled her eyes and twinkled at the thoughts of grandchildren.

The two, Evan and Ina sat side by side and talking about random things. Even though this is not what Evan wanted at this moment, he should show his hospitality towards the guests.

" Please eat, Ina. Have some taste," Evan gentlemanly push a dishes forwards to Ina. The girl bashfully nods and take up her chopstick. He put a piece of meat inside her bowl, and start eating.

A male waiter walks closer to the two pair and smiled respectfully. He poured orange juice into two empty glasses. After that, he steps back to give time to the kids. Nobody noticed a gleam of sinister intention flashed from the waiter's eyes.

He smirked internally as he saw Evan takes the drink and have a sip. The boy nods and continues his meals.

Ina, who is continuously glancing at the boy noticed something weird. Evan seems sweating a lot tonight. Did the dish so spicy?

" Are you alright, Evan? You sweating a lot. You can't handle spicy food, right?" Ina smiled teasingly, gaining laughed from Evan.

" What are you talking about? I love spicy foods the most. I...! Cough! Cough! Cough!" Evan stopped stalking and coughing. This episode was noticed by Adrian and the rest.

" Evan? Are you good? This...blood!!" Ina's face paled at the sight of Evan coughing blood in front of her. She shrieked as Evan fall from his seat, clutching his chest and throat. Adrian alarmed. He quickly sat up and ran towards the groaning Evan on the floor.

" Evan!? What's wrong with you?" Evan's mother, wailing out loud. Scaring the nearest Ina to faint. The dining hall broke into chaos.

Layla and Dom heard a commotion from the dining room and barged inside. Dom quickly ordered to close up the dining room, stopping them from leaving. Layla strides towards Evan and saw his lips turned purple and his fingers start cramping. She squats down to check Evan's pulse from his wrist and bring her nose close to Evan's opened mouth to take a sniff. Her eyes turned cold.

" Called the ambulance! He's poisoned!"

" On it!" One of the waiters took out his phone and went out to call the ambulance. But, he skillfully slips out without nobody noticing. He laughed and ran to hide.
