"What… what?" Confusion became visible on Seraphina's face as she heard what he had just said. Why on earth was he firing her? "I don't understand you sir…"
"I hate repeating myself, Seraphina." He said, handing her a report and as she glanced at it, knowing it was from a hospital, her heart started beating very fast. "Not only did you lie to get your way into my company. You missed work yesterday."
"Sir… I can explain." She said, trying to keep her fear in check so it won't trigger her crisis. Recently, it came up on the slightest of things and she didn't want it to be now that she was dealing with the cold Van del Turo. "I didn't let anyone know about my heart condition because it wouldn't let me get a job."
She fell on her knees immediately, taking Lucian aback but he didn't say a word. "Please I need this job, your highness. I need money for my father's health and my health. Even if it is just for this month, I promise, I will try my best to look for another job…"
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she pleaded. Lucian ran his fingers through his hair as he turned away from her. He didn't know what was going on with him that he was acting this way. What exactly was she doing to him to make him feel like this everytime she was around him.
Lucian didn't say a word and left her on her knees for a few minutes before finally standing up. "Get back to work." He finally said. She couldn't explain the rush of relief and joy she felt for him agreeing to her request.
Maybe everything they've been saying about him wasn't true and it was all because of the way he made them see him. "Thank you very much sir." She said before rushing back to her office which was just right outside his.
A sigh escaped her lips as she sat back in her chair. Gabriel walked past her with a bow before walking into Lucain's office. "Sir." Gabriel bowed his head but Lucian didn't look away from the city which he was staring into.
"Make sure the men keep an eye on her and her father especially. I have a feeling Adrian might want to do something that has to do with her." He said with his hands still in his pockets and his attention outside.
"He doesn't know about Miss Seraphina sir." Gabriel said, which made Lucian go silent for a while.
"Adrian is the sneakiest person I know, Gabriel. Her life is already in danger and I can't add to it because she has something to do with me now." He said before finally turning to look at Gabriel. "I want to know something about her and Adrian knowing it before me might be deadly. She isn't just any type of human."
"What do you mean by she is not any type of human?" Gabriel asked with a raised brow.
"You don't get the scent of her blood?" Lucian asked with a raised brow and Gabriel shook his head negatively.
"Her scent is oddly milder than that of humans, sir." Gabriel reported, and this made the expression on Lucian's face change to that of curiosity mixed with confusion.
"You can go."
Outside his office, Seraphina started to go on with her daily activity when she heard a familiar cough. She looked up at Asher who was staring at her with a raised brow. "I want to see Lucian."
"His highness has a visitor over and I…"
"Do I look like I care?" He scoffed.
"Who are you?" Seraphina asked with a raised brow. "He has given clear and strict orders to let no one in when he is with Gabriel, if it is work related issues, you can just drop whatever it is, I will get back to you."
"You have never spoken back to me, Seraphina. I see you are getting prideful now that you already cheapened yourself right to him and you wouldn't allow me as your boyfriend to even touch you." Asher complained, which irritated Seraphina to the core.
"Excuse me, Asher. I am done with you and quit whining. If you have any issues with his highness, go settle it with him. I do not want to have anything to do with you. Please leave and you will send for right when his highness is interested in speaking with you." Seraphina yelled angrily at him. A subtle smile played on his lips, betraying subtle amusement.
"What do you think you are doing here, trying to harass my secretary." Lucian's voice came from his door. His face darkened, showing his displeasure when his eyes met with Asher's. "And what do you want up here, Asher?"
"I came to hand over the file of the new mall project, your highness." Asher replied to him, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Seraphina could already confirm there was something between the two of them that didn't make Lucian fire him on the spot.
"I was also wondering why you fired your secretary for this lady over here." Asher gestured towards Seraphina. "I never knew you had eyes on other men's leftovers."
"I have been wondering who was the fool who broke off his engagement with her in the first place and I found out it was you." A low chuckle came from Lucian as his lips came up in a devious smirk. "I don't eat your leftovers, I savor what you lost in a whole new way, so I can watch you go crazy when I start enjoying it even than you did."
