Chapter 14-Test

Derek remained silent. They hadn't encountered many vampires that were mordant. The time war broke out long ago they had been put asleep by their parents in a bid to protect them. Odette couldn't just allow them to go scouting in the woods as he needed the other board members as well as the vice principal to conform with this decision. And sadly, the principal and his vice never got along. Anyways, the picture wasn't clear and they didn't know if someone was targeting the academy or perhaps... something else.

"I'm getting a discomforting feeling about this. We should make our move soon",Conner said with a bit of a frown.

Derek thought for sometime then said, "the admission exam is near. They're putting up a restriction in the woods for a while. There will be a full moon soon after the exams".

Davies broke out in a smile. Creatures made use of the full moon to increase their chances of gaining more power. No power seeking creature would let the chance pass by. They were going to scout scavengers and if they were lucky enough the deranged vampire would show itself. It was killing two birds with a stone, the best option they've got so far. Derek didn't mention anything about the lunchroom incidence. He didn't really care about what his brother did as he was never against hanging out with others. He wasn't interested in girls too and gave every girl that tried to approach him a cold shoulder. But Davies had mentioned that girl to him before and he wouldn't deny something sparked a tiny bit of interest in him after running into her countless times. He would just keep silent like nothing happened.

Natalie squinted her eyes as she tried to adjust her sight to the morning rays that penetrated her window into her room. The week had passed uneventfully and last night ,she had tried to go to bed earlier in order to wake up on time for the exams. Still, she didn't really feel like getting up.Tossing her blanket aside, she stood up and headed for the bathroom. After a few minutes, she came back to put on jeans and a t-shirt. She didn't care much about dressing up.

Natalie headed for the school block where the exam hall was located. Many people were already present and she seemed to be among the last to arrive. Kira had come an hour earlier to wish her luck. Natalie was happy, talk about a good girlfriend. Soon, they were instructed to move into the hall. The hall was filled with chatters as people tried to make small talks with each other but the unvarying tension in the lingered , after all it was still an exam which no one wanted to fail. Natalie exchanged pleasantries with a few classmates. She didn't know many people but it was fine. It wasn't like she needed many friends either. The hall was spacious and the walls were painted white. Pieces of artwork were hanging on them.

The chatter continued for some minutes when a loud menacing voice rang out across the hall

"Silence!"

The hall quietened down instantly. Natalie curiously shifted her attention to where the voice had come from. Her gaze fell on a man who stood at the entrance of the hall with a grim expression. Slowly and with an unprecedented air of superiority, he walked towards the podium and stood tall on it while looking down on the students.

"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Mr Langston, Mourline's disciplinary teacher and your invigilator for the day...". Murmurs erupted from every angle. So this was the scary disciplinary teacher Kira about, Natalie thought. He didn't look like anything Natalie imagined. He was rather young and it seemed like the students had quite an impression of him.

"Getting interrupted in the middle of my speech isn't something I'm fond of and trust me... not everyone loves spending an entire semester in detention. Or cleaning up hallways." The warning laced in his words was unmistakable, throwing the hall once again into a tranquil state.

"I thought as much" Langston said as his lips broke out in a smug smile which made Natalie quite uncomfortable. She doubted if the students feared him because of his position. His smiles alone could send chills down a person's spine.

"Remember the rules" he continued, "no whispering, no talking, no side glancing. Lastly , try not to bag yourself detention before your academic life starts". With these words, the admission tests began.

Natalie took sometime to read through the questions on the paper before her. It wasn't something unfamiliar and after a few minutes she started attempting them. The hall was extremely quiet which was something that marvelled her. It seemed like Mr Langston's words did the trick. Cleaning the hallways a whole semester was no joke. The test dragged on for two hours. When the time elapsed, their papers were taken. Natalie was fairly satisfied with the test. Even the language test wasn't much of a hassle. Some students didn't look great but majority had smiles on their faces.

An announcement was made on when the next examination would begin. The physical examination was going to take place at the clinic. They had three hours of break so people started leaving the hall. Natalie decided to go back to the dorm for a nap. After all, writing tests was still something tasking. She had just walked a few minutes when she heard someone call her from a distance.
