Dear diary,Saturday mornings was always a busy morning at home. Here in Nigeria, most Saturdays are normally for cleaning the house.
Well I guess, today wasn't going to be any different. I got up from the bed, which I was laying on since 9:00am, picked up my phone from the bed, it was already on.
I turned on my mobile data, clicked on the goggle app and searched for the JAMB site. My friends had been telling me that they received admission all week, but whenever I checked my admission status, it always read, admission pending'.
It had always been my dream to attend Ekiti state University (EKSU). So, I decided to check it again. After clicking on my admission status, I closed my eyes and said a quiet prayers. My phone almost out of my hand in happiness.
Finally, I gained admission. Being 18 years old, and still in my father's house was quite embarrassing and shameful also. Especially when I'd always see the pictures of my friends on social media.
I ran down the stairs in happiness to tell my dad about the good news, Mom's late, so all I had was dad and my elder sister Rebecca.
I expected dad to be ecstatic as I was, but all he gave me was a smile, then he said, "Finally, you would leave my house, go to school and make a woman of yourself… ".
I felt defeated.I quickly got on the phone withy elder sister, and told her about the good news. She was really overjoyed by it. Rebecca was schooling in the university of Ibadan, studying Medicine. Dad had always been proud of her, but when it came to me, he always hated my profession.
I wanted to follow in mom's footsteps and study Linguistics, because I wanted to see the world, help people, know different cultures, but mostly because I found happiness doing it.
Well, I'm very sure mom would be proud of me wherever she is.
