Chapter 10: Nightmare At Daytime

Cynthia POV.

“I owe you an apology, Blair. I lied to you. Please forgive me.”

It was not just difficult to lie to Blair about the truth, it was heartbreaking. It tormented me so much that I could not sleep the whole night.

Fortunately, I had company. Blair herself. She would not go to sleep either. Not without hearing the whole story. Her initial bewilderment was replaced by an extreme curiosity that refused to leave her alone. She could not fall asleep, so she came to my room in the middle of the night and plonked herself on the edge of the bed.

“I don’t mean to pry,” she said, “but I can’t sleep until you tell me everything. I want to know. Now.”

So, I did the next best thing. I told her some of the truth but kept many of the details hidden. I consoled myself by telling my conscience that I was not lying to her but merely concealing some of the facts.
