Yoru finished telling his life story. It was silent inside the village, and everyone looked towards Resi's direction. They were indebted to his parents, and they would never forget their sacrifice to cure the village's disease.
Resi absorbed the information with a blank mind. He wanted to concentrate and think about what Yoru had said, but something was itching in the back of his mind.
For a split second, he saw the memory of his mother cradling him in her lap while the bright sun behind her head. She was smiling with all innocence, and he could smell lavender in the air.
Then, the memory changed into something of a nightmare. The bright and warm sun behind her turned into a wild fiery red fire, while her innocent face changed into a face full of burns.
The sweet and comforting lavender smell turned into the rancid smell of skin burning.
