A Past Left Unmarked
It caught him by surprise, like a swift jab to the bridge of his nose. The perplexing information caused his thoughts to swirl as he was left puzzled in that moment about what to think.
"But you—when we first talked, you said you rejected them, too," Jett recalled.
"I wasn't lying. I did reject them, in the end. Wasn't a lie when I told you I had to kick some of their asses, too," Vex clarified.
"It's a bit of a stretch to say you weren't lying. That's one hell of a way to bend the truth," Jett remarked with hesitance, "What really happened, then? What made you leave?"
There was a moment of stillness, as if the air had become colder and thinner; in that lightless stairwell with the stars staring back at them through the clear panes. A look was present on the usually carefree man's face, one that was foreign to Jett; a soft expression, seeped in lamentation.
